What are some stories that just give off that crushing, depressive, doomy feel?

For a little bit of advertising, check out this story and tell me what you think about it.

I think it's a good story. The plot is well thought out,

but (constructive criticism),

It tends to hurry too quickly from one part of the story to another. There isn't enough time for the reader to get used to the characters before they die, so it doesn't seem like that much of a big deal when they DO die. I think all of the different parts of the story need more descriptions, more detail.

But yeah, good story, very doomy. I Liked the atmosphere it created.

I was actually planning to rewrite it and fix that, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Thank you for your thoughts.

Some of the stories from The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard are very doomy and The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen is very doomy. Currently reading through his first volume of stories. I need to get HP Lovecraft and the rest of Machen and Howard's story collections, plus dozens others.
