Ok. So you know those scary movies like the chainsaw massacre? Yes its scary, a little annoying and creepy since i heard it was based on a true story....Anyways I always found that people are more shocked or scared when they see little kids die. Why is that? Why is it that people get soworked up over kids, but when it comes to adults, they dont really see it as an "OMG" subject. Now, I dont know if this is true for everyone but for most poeple that I know it is true. I would like to hear your opinion on this fact.....well if anyone bothers to read and reply to this new topic considering that there isnt much on here >_>.....

i think it's really just an instinctual thing. some people may see it as the kids being more undeserving, or helpless so it's not a fair situation... or some people may see it on a more spiritual level, grieving at the loss of all the possibilities a child represents versus adults who are already pretty set in their ways.
but mostly i think it's just a survival instinct to protect the young so they can mature and procreate. confused

I think people are instinctively hard-wired to care more about kids. I can imagine grownups dying and it doesn't bother me that much, but if I try to imagine what it must be like to be a parent and see your child die, I can imagine wanting to tear my own guts out, it's so miserable.
As for whether babies are cute, I don't find them cute. They're little, misshapen lumps without any hair who can't walk or talk, and they s**t themselves and throw up a lot. I don't think kids become "cute" until they're potty trained and able to speak!

I think it's because children are seen as innocent and helpless, as well as the fact that they haven't had the chance to live as long as adults have.

In the context of movies, etc., when an adult dies, there is usually some sort of setup that makes the audience think they deserved what they got. In the case of babies, there isn't anything they could have done (or have had the chance to do) to deserve a violent death. I think IRL most people would be disturbed by such senseless violence whether or not it was "deserved." At least, that's how I would feel.
As far as whether or not babies are cute, I think it depends on the baby. stare

I think that we see so many adults die in the media whereas we don't generally wach animals and children die. I think that we just become immune to seeing such things. I remember being at a movie in which a massacre occured. everyone in the theater was compleatly silent watching all these people die, and then a dog got shot and everyone of them gasped or even cried out in absolute horror. so I honestly think that we just come to ignore it in time.

Crazy Bananna I think it's because children are seen as innocent and helpless, as well as the fact that they haven't had the chance to live as long as adults have. Simple as that. Also, people tend to veiw children in their innocence as beign something that is wholey pure, and thus killing something so pure causes more of a reaction.

Crazy Bananna I think it's because children are seen as innocent and helpless, as well as the fact that they haven't had the chance to live as long as adults have. i think this is true, and i also think this is why it is "scarier" when the child is the evil creature, and not some monster. i don't get scared easily, but when i look at others' reactions...compare a reaction to "the omen" or "pet semetary," where the kid is evil, to a reaction to...idk, the shining. they're all considered scary, but most of the people i know find the seemingly innocent, yet evil, children scarier than the insane man wielding an axe.

I agree with the others.
Children are the offspring, the continuation of our species. Even though we don't worry about that much now a days, it's still in our instincts. Protecting the children is almost always the overall priority of any adult. A child is pure and helpless and utterly dependent on others, so it's 10000 times more tragic to see a helpless being die. It's also sad because we know the child had a little time to live, so we feel for its loss of life. It's very sad to go so early. sad

But there are too many people and so a child dies and it's not that vital to the continuation of the species since we don't really need that maqny more.

All7 But there are too many people and so a child dies and it's not that vital to the continuation of the species since we don't really need that maqny more. right. but we still have that instinct, because evolution has not had enough time to remove it from our psychology.
