Anyone? Any suggestions?

Okay, here's my problem...yes that's right, another one. I have been successfully unemployed for 2 years now. That is not good. Now I would lik to know what I am best suited for. I took a test that told me I was most suited to be a nurse or a bar tender. What's next? Driving a school bus?
First of all I loathe children, mainly after the age of 5. Yes, I know its mean, its a bit heartless, but its honest. I don't like them, and the older they get the less I like them. I also don't care much for working with the elderly. I have retired as a nursing asistant after a few short years of working with them. I've been cursed, spit at, fondled, flirted with, bad mouthed, slandered, slapped, kicked and sexually harassed by those people for what is hopefully the last time.

Now my proble is finding out what I am meant to do. I thought maybe if I knew what I'd done in a past life maybe that would give me some idea of the course I should take. But all I know is what I am GOOD at. I am good at writing, reading, filing, decorating, proofreading, detail, picking out voices that I've heard before, drawing, listening to problems, being compassionate, plants, typing, designing jewelry, and designing clothes (not so great at sewing).

Unless you are just looking for suggestions, don't worry about using your past lives in regards to your Job searches. Each life time is different based on the history and events, environment and how we were raised at that time. No matter the life time it is best to go with your instincts and interests when seeking employment. Especially, if you are seeking something that you will enjoy and feel is worthwhile.

You have listed a few neat ideas. Based on some of the things you mentioned Secretarial, counselling, designing, or florist might be interesting options. You might be able to get other ideas by talking to an employment counsellor.

But don't put full stock into those tests they offer. Yeah they are ok for getting ideas into the area you might have an interest in, but they don't offer an expancive selection of job lists that area might offer. See if your area has workshops to help you improve on the skills and interests you currently have.

Hmm. why not try either job out, i mean, those test are usualy somewhat acurate. you might find you like it more than you'd think.

Meh, ocaisionaly children get on my nerves quickly.

Ooh, not pleasant. cross nursing off the coices list.

I dont realy like that idea. I think that you have different lives to experience different things. It would almost feel like reliving a life. Even If i could give you a sure way to know what you once were, i wouldnt suggest you pursue the same career again, intentionaly. my personal opinion any way.

It sound like you have a wide array of talent. One might think you lucked out. some people have hardly much to choose from. Perhaps you should meditate on this. look for the answer within yourself. somewhere, inside of you, you know exactly what you would like to do. just try to find it.

I've actually been to a career counselor and was given another test that implied I should go into law, because I have a strong english background. But I'm not much of a public person so it was advised by someone else that I search other avenues.

Theyre actually aren't any workshops of that sort in this pathetic town I live in. And no, I don't put full stock in the tests, otherwise I'd be in serious trouble since they also hinted I would make a good accountant and I suck at math...

Well nursing might be alright but math might be a bit of a problem, and of course there's the fact that my back is already a wreck from being a nursing assistant (money isnt as good and the work is harder, with less education/degrees and certificates). As for bartending, well I have no experience, although a friend suggested that I would be good at it before I took the test.

Meditating sounds good, I just need to find the time since my schedule's been pretty full lately. As for lucking out, not really. I love plants but have allergies to everything from grass to dogwoods. I even go into sneezing fits around my precious Hostas when their flowering.

secretary. they get paid very nicely too at some places. you answer phones, do some filing, do some editing of letters, set up people's appointments, etc. A lot of my friends have been getting hired at American General...its some finanial loan place around where I live.

Editor. They get paid nicely as well.

Banker. No experience needed. But you do have to be able to tolerate the idiot customers who believe that the teller has the ability to fix the computer and the stuff that the people with the offices can fix.

Florist.

Marketing. Find any store. Department stores and the like. Ask them if they have need for a person to do their marketing. Not marketing like most would think, just the looking at a picture of a display and setting it up accordingly.

Similar to marketing, find a store (like a clothing store), where you can help with floor sets and/or stock. I work at the Children's Place (which is a clothing store) and I basically just do floor sets (putting the new line of clothes on the floor) and stock. I don't really deal with people at all...just boxes and clothes. I did a similar thing at the bookstore I used to work at back home.

Counselor. You can do this with a degree in social work (generally a masters) or even a degree in psychology (generally a masters but a *few* will hire with a bachelors).

Secretary- I've thought about that, and I really don't mind doing it. I've been a volunteer assistant before, but I haven't done that in a while, still a thought to keep in mind.

Editor- I would probably do pretty good at that, although I'm sure I don't have the credentials for that. Still its something I definitely wouldnt mind doing.

Banker-*bursts into tears* I suck at math and my credit is laughable so its fairly out of the question I fear.

Marketing- *backs away uncertainly* I dunno about this one. But actually I think I might be able to pull it off...but I'm a bit dubious about this one. But actually what you do sounds like a lot of fun. I used to do that with books when I worked at a bookstore...just handling the bestsellers list was enough motivation to come to work early.

Counseling- well I'm pretty good at this, and I was actually going to college for psychology at one time, but my problem is that I have a habit of getting sucked into other peoples' lives. My mother said that I'm too sensitive for nursing, so I'm wondering if the same applies to social work, although I'm a good listener.

you don't even need to be good at math for banking. My mother is HORRIBLE at it, and she actually is doing that now.

I agree with the counseling thing. that is part of the reason I have kind of given that aspect of psychology up. I have horrible issues with keeping other's problems with me. But that is where you have to be good at meditation, clearing, and shielding. That, and you have to be good at keeping work at work and home at home.

Well once I pull my finances out of the red, I will give some thought to banking. Of course a friend suggested that I do bartending...

Bartending would be cool, but you need a bartending license, and to get that license, you have to go to school (a short time period, nothing like getting an actual degree). At least that was what I was told. But, oh! Bartending would be so much fun!!

It does doesnt it? Well I've taken a job as a housekeeper and I HATE it, to put it mildly. I'm looking into other modes of employment, almost anything else really, thats how much I loathe it.

Wow, that sucks. I almost did that...you'd be better off working as hotel housekeeping! Actually, speaking of Hotels, you might see if there is a Holiday Inn or something nearby that you can apply for a front desk position. Its usually a fairly easy job.

Well 6 days after I started, I've quit...that's right, I just couldnt take it anymore. So its back to the drawing bored. As for the Holiday Inn, well there is but its doubtlessly easier, the beds still have to be made.

Yeah..the housework position is a pain. I wrote on your other post.

You would want something that doesn't put too much strain on your back. House cleaning a definate No,no
Anything that requires a lot of standing or twisting or lifting is not good on the back.
Which means looking at posture, and the amount of movement required during a job. Then there is always the dreaded back brace.... xp

Housekeeping has always been on my Not to do list, but I was desperate for any kind of work, or so I thought, and people seemed to think that if I tried hard enough I could do it. So I tried it and of course I got the same results that put me out of nursing. (I gave my backbrace to my mom when she cracked her ribs last year).
