It is a myth that lesbians can not catch diseases from making out with another girl. This is wrong. Being a lesbian does lower the risk, however that does not make you imune to everything. Here are a few things I've found people didn't know much about.
If you do not know everything about who you are sleeping with it is good to be careful. Do not finger someone if you have a cut on your hand or a handnail. This is very bad. If you feel like it you can put a condom over your fingers to protect yourself. I know an odd use for such a thing but it works. Also try to be careful if you have long finger nails. You can cut something sesitive in there in the heat of the moment. I have found short nails are the best but that is not the same for everyone.
Now oral sex. There is something called a Dental Dam that can be bought to protect yourself from diseases. It is this plastic ring that you place over the girl's c**t so you don't get any virginal fluids in your mouth. Also be careful if you have a sore in your mouth.
Dildos and vibs should be washed with rubbing alchohal or something along those lines. You can boil some of them just be careful. Some might melt.
If anyone has anything to add or questions to ask then feel free to do so. Just remember to keep it PG-13 and keep it to safe sex. I want to cover things that are not talked about in schools, but should be.

Fizzlesticks I am on a crusade to bring safe sex to all people! So, I'm glad to see this thread is here. I felt it was needed with the mention of how little sex ed there is in other countries and how most people don't bring up lesbian sex when talking about safe sex. jaa ne Kat

A friend and I were discussing yesterday how odd it must be to initiate the 'safe sex' discussion, particularly in a casual sex situation.
*heated sex scene* A: Wait, honey, let me put on these gloves, and stretch this latex over your c**t...
For those who are in the know, how does that conversation usually run?

For those who are in the know, how does that conversation usually run? It is good to make it all part of the experience. Let her help with the gloves or have fun with the lub. Usually you don't need to talk about it. Just ask for a moment as you get things together. A "One sec" usually works. It is just like choosing out the correct toy for the occasion and the like. It can be a lot of fun if you know how to work it into the experience. Well, have fun. Kat

hiya
It's surprised me how little younger lesbians knew about safe sex in a chatroom I am a regular in ... actually I was appalled to think that these young women thought they were * immune* to such diseases and didn't even consider getting something simple like crabs fgs !
Great Britain is lagging behind greatly when it comes to advice for young sexually active lesbians .. rolleyes
In actual fact sex education in general is taught in schools too late in my opinion .. it's still such a delicate subject ... luckily some parents like myself and my partner take it upon ourselves to teach our children without relying on their peers and school gossip

My school's sex ed didn't cover gay or lesbian sex. At all. That's pretty funny, because there are a lot of people who are of the rainbow orientation there. xPP Still, it's not a good thing for us to not know how to stay safe. ._.

-sniff sniff- Our school looks down on gays... -sniff sniff- and I'm currently in Health (sex ed) and you know... it's about just as bad as Catholic School Sex Ed... "Don't have sex... you have sex then you're a sinner, if your a sinner you need to repent... if you don't repent... you go to hell for having sex. So sex is bad."
They should at least teach the fundamentals for gays and lesbians in Health Class... not everyone is straight... though I don't think people have realized that yet...

Hmm...I was required to take health in 9th grade and that was 2001, but when we did sex ed nothing was covered from what I remember. I actually didn't get to learn anything about sex ed for gays and lesbians until coming to college. One of the RA programs is all about sex and it's covered there by one of the guys each year. Makes a whole lot more sense to just cover everything, but then again we are college kids and parent input doesn't really matter when it comes to these programs.
