If you're wondering, yes this is about the Necronomicon. I figured it would be beter placed here than in the Lovecraftian Chatter area for this reason:

Despite all the "fake" ones that have been released, this one is based off of actual texts that have been found, and towards the start shows the relation between Lovecraft's Mythos, Aleister Crowley's Beliefs, and the ancient Sumerian Gods/Goddesses.

So here you may find a Necronomicon (as well as the "R'Lyeh text" which is supposed to be fictional, made to seem real):

Enjoy, and share your thoughts. (I can now say that I've read all of the Necronomicon! Woot!)

I'd like to name my son Aliester but the whole influencing nazis and leading dark cults may screw with his mind.

I suppose the same would go for naming my daughter Asenath...

I haven't read it, but I've heard that the Simon Necronomicon has almost nothing to do with Lovecraft gods, but with Sumerian ones...

I've heard that too, but apparently, people still relate them because the Lovecraft gods and Sumerian ones have some similarities.

Hmm, I had read that Dagon was based on an actual god, who I thought was sumerian, but it seems I was wrong.

Here's an explanation on the whole 'Cthulhu Mythos/Sumerian Gods' thing:
Is it true that the Cthulhu Mythos is derived from Sumerian mythology?

(tap)This particular information comes from the Simon Necronomicon, a book of ill-repute among most Mythos fans. Generally, when someone states that there is a connection, they have only read the Necronomicon and have little knowledge of either the Cthulhu Mythos or Sumerian mythology. The "Cthulhu Mythos" names in the Necronomicon (those on pp. xix-xx) do not turn up in any other known Sumerian texts, or anywhere else other than Cthulhu Mythos stories and articles.

Aparently you can make correlations, but these are very supperficial.

The name, Dagon, came from some ancient mythology, but it was not similar to the cthulhu Dagon.
