The little homunculus child ran alone in the dark. Why was he running? He did not know, only that he feared what he was running from....it was something that he had never seen, but instantly feared going back in side of it.
The boy's blindfold came undone and flew off, floating off into the nothingness. And for the first time, the boy could see, his pale-blue cat like eyes no longered cloudded by blindness. His head turned looking behind him to see that which he head been running from. The Gate....he screamed as it enveloped him, and then.....
He awoke, instantly snapping upright. His heart racing, his blindness restored, and cold sweat dripping down his face. He was home, and the Gate was not here. Not here in the Alchemist Cafe, the place he called home, someone summoning the Gate here would be dealt with quickly.
At least that was what Vengeance used to assure himself, that nothing would ever happen to him, he had to keep talling himself this, or go insane. He sighed and pulled his knees up to his chest and quietly prayed that nothign would happen to him.

It was still partly dark outside, the sky only a deep purple, when she had opened the cafe doors, cold wind blowing in behind her. "Windy for the early morning..." she said to herself, closing the door tightly behind her so the cool currents wouldnt make the whole place freezing. She turned on a few lights, taking a few steps in. She noticed some bottles left on the bar that she hadnt caught last night, so she headed immidiately to them to throw them out. Though she didnt realize it, she probably looked like she was posessed, or at the very least hypnotized. She walked very slowly, her head down. She wasnt smiling nor was she frowning; her mouth stayed straight, her face mostly emotionless. Her eyes were a dark mix of red and brown, looking almost cold. She began to talk to herself. One voice seemed cold, while the other more like herself. "I hate this goddamn place. Why did you buy it?" "I had nothing left to do... it was for a great price." "It's always full of people from the state..." "I'M part of the state; I cant discriminate." "Hardly; they're kicking you out, dont you realize?" "yeah... But what did I do...?" "You killed someone, Rei. You're a murderer." "Why do you always say things like that..." But the sound of something moving woke Rei out of her senseless trance, her eyes immidiately trailing to where she believed the source was comming from. "Veangance...?" She asked, shaking her head, not remembering even how she got here. But as she squinted, she realized the poor boy seemed scared out of his mind, her face frowned, and she walked slowly towards him. "Are you alright, Veangance?" she asked softly, kneeling next to where he sat. "Did you have a bad dream?"

Vengenace, who was still scared out of his wits, screamed when Rei came near him, he backed himself into the couch, trying to get away from Rei. "Stay away! " He yelled at frist, then whimpered, "Get it away! I don't want to go back inside...."
He calmed down a little, but remained silent, tears were running down his face, and he was in complete dissalution, to him, Rei was the gate, coming to get him.

Rei stopped, looking shocked. "Veangance... It's me..." She said, reaching out a hand, her eyes wide. What on earth had happened to that boy? "It's Rei..." She moved a little closer to him, trying to get a better look and make sure he wasnt harmed. She gently, and cautiously, patted the boys head, trying to bring comfort to him. "It's alright... You aren't in any danger... Don't be afraid of be, Veangance." Rei said, trying to speak as softly as she could.

Vengenace froze at the touch, but then relaxed, he clinged onto Rei, "Don't let it get me, I don't want to go back!" He still was shivering to death. He could get the fear out of his mind.
He kept on whimpering, "Don't let it get me...", over and over. He could feel that the Gate was nearby, but that's to be said, he was near an alchemist.

Rei was stunned at first, but soon held the young boy tightly, petting him in the most motherly way she knew how. "What's wrong, little Veangance? What's comming to get you?" She repeated to herself in her head what he had said.
"Don't let it get me, I don't want to go back!"
What kind of place would a young humumculi fear so?
The Gate. That wretched place you Alchemists send poor souls to.
Her voice was right. The Gate! It had to be.
"Veangance... Are you afraid of the gate?" She asked softly, trying to look at him eye to eye. But it was no use, his face was practically stuck to her.

Vengenace nodded slowly, he was terrified of the Gate, "Y..Yes, I am...." HE shivered slightly in Rei's arms, but didn't say anymore. The only true thing that he could see was the Gate, he could feel it everytime it was opened.
He clutched Sam tightly, "Please don't let it get me!" He was frightened out of his mind still, he didn't want to go back, it ran through his mind what would happen, an alchemist would be angered by him, and send him into the Gate.

Rei let out a long sigh, holding the poor humunculus close. "Don't worry, I won't let it get you. I'll protect you, Veangance." She smiled at him. "So don't be afraid of The Gate anymore, okay? I won't let anyone get you... Never." She said, thinking in her head the whole time 'So this is what us alchemists do when we cross the boundaries of God...'

Vengenace clung close to Rei his head buried in her chest, he was still frightened out of his mind. But Rei's words however, calmed the child down considerable, but he still would let go of his grip, he wanted to, but couldn't.

After a long pause, she finally spoke. "Are you feeling better now, Veangance?" She asked, trying to softly pry the poor boy off her chest a little to look at his face for a moment. From what she could see, his face was stil painted with fear. 'Poor boy... And to think that I once thought all humunculi were evil... Im the evil one.' "It's alright now. You can open your-" She paused. She almost forgot, he was blind. "You're okay now." She simply said.

Vengenace released Rei from his grip, his face looked up at Rei, tears staining his blindfold. "Rei?" He suddenly remebered that it was all a dream, "I...I think that I'm better..." He smiled a little, he was with a friend, and she would not hurt him.

Rei smiled, though her eyes were filled with pain. She stood up, helping him up as well and patting Veangance's head when she stood. "That's good to hear, Veangance." She said happily. "Well then... We still seem to be the only ones here. How about you and I have some breakfast?"
(Yes, I know. Im posting this at nine oclock at night. -_-; Quiet.)

Vengenace backed a way a little on his couch, he looked up at Rei, "Sure why not, maybe more will ocme in to join us later..." He smiled a little for once today, seeming to have forgoten the horrer he had just showed Rei. He was in the mood for much happeir settings for a change.

"I hope so too." Rei said with a small smile back to him. "So, how about... pancakes?" Rei was looking forward to being able to cook in the kitchen again. During the year of owning the cafe, she found the kitchen didnt really need her, and had long since stopped cooking real food. She herself didnt eat real food much- her daily diet normally consisted of bottles of spring water, fruit, occasionally eggs if she wanted to eat breakfast, and maybe some sort of dinner if she was hungry. To be honest,s he didnt eat much lately. The problems with her father's return had effected even her dreams.
But her thoughts werent on that man today. Now it was taking care of her cafe and eating, like it used to be. She smiled to herself. She missed those days. "Chocolate chip pancakes, or maybe ones with fruit topping?" Rei asked Veangance.
((Hah! It's 10:37AM. Now the proper time to eat pancakes. >_>))
