Anekdoten is my favorite band of the moment. They started out doing King Crimson covers until this chick with a mellotron joined. Then they became a whole other story. I think if you like Tool or A Perfect Circle, you might like these guys. Krautrock, prog, blah blah blah.

When I was in the Mellotronen record store, in Sweden last week, me and my friends asked Peter how the new album was coming along. He shrugged and said, "...we haven't laid down any vocals yet, but do you want to listen to it?"

O_O

So he takes a burned CD out of his Walkman, sticks it into the stereo at the front desk, and we all orgasm upon hearing unreleased Anekdoten. Can't wait to buy that s**t on CD.

Anyway the point of that story is that they are amazing people and you should start with Gravity.
