[WWYC] Lachrymose Love

Foreword:
I’m writing this for fun more than anything, I thought I might enter a story as well, not to be judged, but for you guys to read anyway. A sappy little love story, with two of my favourite character arche-types.

---

Woman was taken out of man -- not out of his head, to rule over him;
nor out of his feet, to be trampled under by him; but out of his side,
to be equal to him -- under his arm, that he might protect her, and
near his heart that he might love her.
-- Henry

---

It was a spectacular view of the city.

The busy nightlife of the city roared into the heavens. Excitement, uncertainty, and many other emotions created the aura that made the city such a wonderful place to live.

They were watching the city from their vantage point, atop the radio tower, where couples regularly meet to be alone. They weren’t such an orthodox couple though.

Kyo and Naomi stood atop the tower, no more than ten centimetres separating them as they leant on the guardrail.

Nao-chan smiled in the breeze, her shoulder length, dark red hair ruffling in the breeze afforded by their distance from the earth. She looked up at the profile of her prize, her equal, as he stood looking at the city with his usual intense stare. She had always like Kyo-kun for who he was. He was a reserved, tall guy with black hair and glasses, although he didn’t wear them now, affording an even better view of his black, penetrating eyes.

She watched as he paid no mind to the popular crowd of our class, but was willing and able to defend himself when he needed to. The amount of times she just wanted to wrap her arms around him, to tell him that he didn’t need to be alone was a number too large for her to care for.

She entranced by Kyo, by his way of being, that he is untalkative by nature, and always in a state of brooding, except for when she was with him. When she was with him, he would come out his shell little by little, and every time they were together, she’d learn more about the one she loved.

Before Kyo noticed, she returned her attention to the city, and it was Kyo’s turn to glance momentarily at her own profile. His eyes ran over the features of her face, a face that had one day worked up the courage to say hi to him.

Kyo never found himself interested in others. He didn’t agree with the social standards exhibited by other boys in his class, in desperate acts to ascertain their own masculinity. He sat back, and endured, knowing one day he would find his own way in life.

When he looked at Naomi, he saw what he needed to make his way forward. He was not one for great shows of affection, or sweet-talking, but what he did do was affirmation enough for both Naomi and for himself.

He moved closer to Naomi, and dared to put an arm around her waist, standing right by her so that they may look over the city with a shared closeness.

He knew the power a simple touch from another could have.

It was raining one day, and Kyo found himself ambushed by people who were against him. He was beaten, punched and kicked, and left to writhe in pain outside. After a minute, he thought they had gone, but then flinched at the touch of somebody hand against his forehead.

The owner of the hand inquired as to whether he was okay or not. He felt at ease again, Naomi shared his pain that day, and taught him how soothing a touch could be.
With the hand attached to the arm around Naomi’s waist, he took her hand into his, and rested his cheekbone against Naomi’s hair, making them both blush more than before.

“I used to think I could never find someone like you Nao-chan,” Kyo spoke. “But…now that I’ve found you, I don’t ever want to let go…because…I love you.”

Afterword:

I wrote this in like half an hour. When I finished it, I added a bit more about Naomi’s feelings to flesh out her character, that is, a character that would completely devote herself to the male in the relationship, Kyo.

The title ‘Lachrymose Love’ was pretty fitting I’d say. The word lachrymose means to be quite tearful, and both characters went through tremendous emotional pain to find each other.

Yes. It's not realistic, it's more a reflection of my appreciation of Bishoujo manga (Yes I read girls manga, sue me).

I pretty much tried to write it with the intention of evoking the same emotion one would when reading a Bishoujo manga, and I was fairly pleased with it.

Well done in that respect.
