I love languages, but I'm not as enthusiastic about learning them as I was when I was younger. I've forgotten a lot.

English is my first language. I'm in Spanish 3 at school, but I'm forgetting it. Then I tried learning German and I guess I gave up.

So, what languages do you speak?
Did you learn at school or on your own?
Are there any languages you would like to learn?

English is my first language, and I come from a fairly strong asian influenced family, so i guess it's no surprise that I'm taking Japanese class, and although i may not actually be fluent in these languages, in my various choirs, i've sung songs, in... lesse... English, Spanish, Japanese, Tagalog (a dialect of Filipino), Xhoshan (african), Latin, Hawaiian, French, Italian, New Zealand-ish (i don't know the language name), Hebrew, Russian, and Tahitian, off the top of my head. I'm sure we've done more, but I can't think of it right now.

I know, a lot, isn't it?

That is a lot. Did you have to memorize the songs? I probably couldn't without making up a few hundred words gonk

I'm taking spanish 2 at school, which is really, really easy for me. I'm also learning japanese online and I've been self-teaching for a couple years. 3nodding I love learning languages, and I next plan on learning Arabic, since it would be a useful language, considering the "Middle East Crisis" that the US has unwisely dabbled in.

@ Nucleotide: Yeah, I did have to memorize them... it was pretty easy, if you've been raised on the stuff, but also that i'm extremely musically inclined, so it's ok.

I would like to learn Arabic. You could probably get a really good job translating. Same with Spanish. surprised

English is my first language, but until I was four, I lived in Greenland so I learned Greenlandic and Danish as well. By now I've almost completely forgotten those languages, and am in French 3H in school. I hope to get an opportunity to re-learn Danish, and possibly Greenlandic, but it's rather unlikely...

The more things seem to change,

--------------------------------------------------------

Hmm. Well I am studying Spanish for my 5th year, but the first 2 were more like programs that tell you everything you can learn on Dora The Exsplorer so yeah, English was my first language, and I used to sing n Japanese really well, but I almost never knew the meanings of the words. Exsept for the ending theme for Cowboy Bebop, I could sing that so well, my parents were bugging. I also knew the meanings of all the words. Now though I forget nearly the whole song. I could also sing the first two ending themes to Inuasha...no longer now though. I also hope to learn from Smash alot of French. She's like a Mega Gienus, so she's only in her 3rd year and knows almost the whole language...hmm I should tell her about this place...oh well thats it. ()^_^

Maori.

And you've also sung German, you know. I've sung all those, I think, plus Chinese, Samoan, and some other random stuff...and you also forgot that we do sign language ^^;

I take Chinese at school (in level 4H currently) and Japanese (level 1) - I also know quite a bit of Hawaiian because both of my parents took Hawaiian and my brother does, plus what I know from singing and hula.

I've also studied Latin a bit on my own, but I'm basically limited to vocabulary rather than grammar (too complicated!)

I pick up linguistical ties really easily, and I know a lot about grammar both in my native English and Chinese and Japanese from school, so I've spent a lot of time thinking about languages and attempting to learn the basic grammar and vocabulary.

If music counts, I can read treble and bass clef fluently and I'm working pretty diligently on alto clef...but admittedly, that's a different part of the brain, so perhaps that's not a great example.

In general, I count myself as being fluent in English and tolerable in Chinese - I could definitely get around in China without using English, but I have a heavy American accent and a limited vocabulary. My main problem, though, is that I can't write that well - I have maybe 1000 characters if I try really hard, but that's really not enough to be considered educated in the language.

Oh, how I love language
