I am a little overweight. I swim 3 times weekly for an hour, so i get a decent amount of excersize. My goal is to lose 15 pounds.
I have tried dieting before, but i always cave in to my cravings and pig out. Not on anything particular, but i have gotten into the habit of snacking when i get home from school on a lot of junk. I end up eating way too much and then eating dinner too. I also dont eat anything for breakfast, which i know is not good. So, i have a plan. I wrote it down, but i think support is what i need to lose the weight. So, i decided to post it here. Please, comment! I have some questions about healthy things, and id like just tips and suggestions on my plan and if it will work or not. It will motivate me rofl .
Okay, so the first issue is breakfast. I dont like eating in the morning, so i never eat breakfast. My plan to fix that is to drink some tea in the morning, sweetened with some honey (Or is that not good for you? Im not sure...). It will at least fill me up a bit and give me a bit of energy.
To motivate me and keep my willpower strong, im going to add this page and the guild homepage to my 'everyday links' tab group. Its what i open whenever i use the internet, so i will be forced to see it and it will boost my willpower and remind me of the goals ive made for myself. Im also going to try chewing gum. When i am legitmately feeling a bit off, it is often a mix of tiredness and hunger, so i will make myself some coffee (with skim milk, not cream) to at least shake off the drowsiness and fill me a bit.
So, the plan of my days:
-Breakfast: Tea
-Mid-day snack: I get tea (unsweetened) often during history class (yeah, ive got an awesome teacher..).
-Lunch: Often very small, i take lots of fruit already. I will stop buying myself big cookies or fries from the cafeteria until i have met my goal.
-After school snack: Fruit, toast (1 piece with margerine...is that a healthy choice? toast is my weakness, i adore the warm butteriness..), life cereal, etc. Not too much food, and not every day. Gum to help me avoid eating when im not hungry.
-Dinner: At the mercy of my parents. I will cut down on sauces and gravies, and not eat seconds of fatty foods.
-No eating after 7! (not normally a problem.)
So, that is how i plan to lose my weight. Hopefully the calorie cutting and the excersize i already do will be enough to get me to the weight i would like to be.

Lunel hmm... your weight seems pretty good as it is. Whats your BMI? be sure you dont lose too much weight that you become unhealthy. It is about 24. I dont want to lose a lot of weight, but i carry a lot on my stomach and id like to lose a bit. No crash anorexia diets or antything. I just want to get a bit healthier, lose some stomach fat and such. Id like to go from a little chunky to curvy instead.

That sounds pretty good. I just noticed a couple things that may present problems:
First, you mentioned that "I will stop buying myself big cookies or fries from the cafeteria until i have met my goal." If you really want to stick with your goal weight once you reach it, you'll have to stick with the healthy eating habits you used to achieve that. You can sneak stuff like that in every once in a while, but don't think that once you've reached your goal, you can go back to eating the way you used to. Even if you still exercise, the weight will probably come back. 3nodding
Second, you mentioned how dinner is at the mercy of your parents. That may pose a threat to your plans, because even if you don't have seconds, it's still bad for you to eat unhealthy, thick stuff at night. It's better to have a lot in the morning and have a small dinner (though I understand you don't eat much in the morning). Perhaps you should let them know that you really want to get serious about losing weight, and hopefully they're considerate enough to base their meals more around that, instead of tempting you with fried stuff and other unhealthy foods. :]
Sorry 'bout the long response. XD

Sorry 'bout the long response. XD Yeah, i see where youre coming from, but i dont eat from the caf THAT often anyways. Maybe 1 cookie and 1 thing of fries a month. So, until i get to the weight id like, ill just not do that. More because it will tempt me into eating bad than because it will actually hurt my calorie intake a lot. I dont eat horribly now, i just snack a lot. I think that is where the problems lie, not with the occasional eating of high fat foods. We usually eat quite healthy at my house, there is the occasional meal thats no so good (pizza or something on a night we need a fast meal), but for the most part we eat a balanced meal. Well have chicken, corn, and rice or something. I know its best to eat more in the morning, but that just isnt possible when you go to school and are expected to eat dinner with your family. Dinner is going to have to remain my big meal, and im going to have to eat the healthy stuff and skip the gravy and the extra butter and stuff. And its totally okay, thats what i wanted 3nodding

Tea has almost no calories, unless you're getting some monstrosity from StarBucks. It won't give you energy that you need in the mornings! Calculate your daily calorie needs and cut back gradually so that your body won't think you're on a starvation diet and store fat to save itself. If you already eat far less than you actually need, consider eating more; the body will know that it can always get the calories it needs and actually burn them more efficiently. If toast is your weakness, have whole-grain. Anything high in fiber or protein will help you feel full, and there are other digestive benefits as well. Gum won't stave off hunger, but it may keep you from mindlessly eating. The chewing prompts salivation, which might make you hungrier, though.

And its tastier too 3nodding . I have been keeping a food diary. My body needs between 1900-2100 calories a day (different calculators) and cutting out snacks i am getting between 1000-1200. But before i never got 2000, its not a big shock to my body or anything. I just have a crappy metabolism. The gum is to prevent the mindless eating smile And, ive realized bananas are good for that too, instead of going for the chocolate/ice cream/peanut butter or other junk, they satisfy my want for food but have less calories and fill me up too.

That's a great plan but you know I have tons of ideas and quick easy recipes for breakfast and lunch that you might like. Tea can get a little redundant after a while...
Though snacking after school does rid you of over eating at dinner you might want to consider unsalted nuts, a glass of milk, or something with lots of protine. Protine takes longer to digest and makes you feel fuller longer which will cut your appetite at dinner and help you eat less in the evening hours.
As for breakfast I usually have 2 scrambled eggs with lean turkey sausage, fresh bell peppers, a little salt/pepper, and 2 table spoons of reduced fat mild cheddar cheese. All stuffed into half of a pita pocket bread round I've cut in half. It's totally guilt free because it's early in the morning so carbs ARE allowed and you won't starve before lunch comes around.
You can aslo use the other half of the same pita for lunch and stuff it with turkey, ham, roast beef, your choice of veggies, and drizzle 2 table spoons of your favorite salad dressing for a lite lunch that's guilt free and totally satisfying. Again it's early in the day and carbs ARE allowed.
**Carbs are the first thing your body uses for energy so it's the food your body uses after those carbs are gone that matters. The protine and veggies will fill you up while the bread gives you that instant energy boost your body needed to finish the day.

Your after school snake is kina big. I assume that after school you have like 3 hours or so till supper. When I was younger I used to eat a gronola bar or can peaches and milk instead of cereal. I also never used to eat breakfast in school and still don't lol. any hoo I digress try a more vegan and smaller snaks.

It's good that you drink lots of tea, it's very good for you. smile I'm not much for breakfast either. One thing I do really enjoy is Mashed Banana on toast. heart Pop some wholegrain bread in the toaster, cut the banana in half and mash on a plate. Butter the toast if you need to, spread the banana on the toast, sprinkle with cinnamon, mixed spice and a tiny bit of sugar. Mm-mmm! whee It's so good that you almost can't help but scoff it down. So I cut mine into fours now. sweatdrop

I tried that, and it was delicious! Its one of my favourite snacks now. I dont need the sugar or butter though. I mash up the whole banana, mix it with cinnamon and spread the amount i need on the toast. Then i put the rest in the freezer and i get a yummy cinnamon/banana ice-cream-like treat later!

A handful of dry rice crispies has far less calories (not to mention sugar!) than granola bar or canned peaches. Neither are really fantastic choices, at least thats what ive seen looking at the labels on these foods...correct me if im wrong.
