Powermetal all the way! I listen to Helloween, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Hammerfall, Edguy, Iron Savior, DragonForce, Sonata Arctica, and lots of other German stuff, most of that is underground in the US. Next to Powermetal would be NWOBHM, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, AC/DC, Def Leppard, all that stuff. Then next would be Speed Metal/Thrash Metal, Metallica, Trivium, Anthrax, Slayer, Exciter, anything like that. I like all sub-genres of Metal, not necessarily Nu-Metal, nor Grindcore, and Hardcore is not metal. I like Black and Death Metal, Metalcore, and everything really.

That's a hard one... Let's see. I guess anything with Death involved I love. Death Metal, Melodic Death, Technical Death, Death/Doom, etc. Other than that, everything is liked equally. And everything is liked a lot.

I've only heard of In Flames. so it's just different forms of Death Metal? Like Scandinavian black metal is it's own subgenre...

Technical Death metal bands: Nile, Suffocation, Atheist, Decapitated, Necrophagist.

Name pretty much says it all, as number_17 said.

Melodic Death metal bands: Wintersun, Amon Amarth, Carcass's later material.

Melodic Death metal includes bands that take Death Metal and add more melody to their solos and music over all (thus the name).
