Now, I know what I like in a romance book, but I'm interested in asking some others. My major project at the moment (mostly in my head...though the first chapter's out on paper) is a comedic sci-fi romance featuring a scruffy genius, Kris, and a stressed-out accountant called Shane (yes, okay, I admit the L Word reference).
So, tell me, what do you enjoy in a lesbian love story? Of the stories you've seen/read, what did you feel worked, and what didn't?

Sorry to take so long to answer. I'm not sure how to answer your question exactly. I like the more innocent love then anything else. I'm not sure how to explain it, but the soft sweet love I find more intrequing then hot and steamy, if you know what I mean. I know that is strange coming from someone who writes some rather steamy scenes herself, but that is just the weird way I am I guess.
Sorry I can not answer better. My head is feeling funny.

This is, I'm tired of the saccharine stories that seem to flood the market (ronic since I end up writing such these days sweatdrop ) But I'd really like to read something different... Good luck getting yours on paper!

Good luck getting yours on paper! Cheers biggrin Yup, Kris and Shane shall not have a conventional romance. It's going to be fun. I've presently sent off the first chapter (as a short story) to a few ezines, so I can't publish it here, but if it ends up anywhere online - I'll let you know.

If you want stories that make sense then don't read my other novels. They are insane to say the least. Well Morbid and The shadowlands are. My other tales are just play creepy... Well I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. jaa ne Kat

Messenger_Of_The_Moon Probably anything that's actually... realistic. If that makes any sense. xP And Kat's amazing novel, Dreaming of Another Day. Most lesbian romances I've read lately have been 'realistic', but also very morbid and (usually) poorly written. I really feel there's a lack of variety in ALL literature when it comes to characters of different sexual orientations/identities, so I seek to include them in my stories/books/poems. I've been working on an old fantasy novel I hadn't looked at in about a year. I'd forgotten how bloody poncy one of the lead characters is. He's like Jack from Will and Grace, only flouncier. Complete stereotype. And you know what? I don't care! I like him. He's a lot like me, only male. Blah. Anyway, enough ranting. Would love to read Kat's novel wink

EDIT: found your thread for Dreaming of Another Day. I've read the first chapter - it's excellent! Very well written, very moving. I look forward to the rest of it. You can find all my novels on that account, just be warned some are very dark and somewhat disturbing at points. Dreaming is my most realistic story, but I've been told my others have a level of realizm even if they are completely bizzare and tend to make people's minds spin. Thanks for the compliment. I wrote that story about 3 years ago and it was not an easy story to tell. It is my most popular works and I've had publishers request it, but I refuse to take it offline becuase it is helping more people being online for now. Would love to read Kat's novel wink I deal with all sorts of sexuality types in my stories which is why so many enjoy them, I'm guessing from comments people have made about these stories. In A Shadowlander's Dream I deal with all sorts of relationships and different personality types. Some are rather shocking and tends to dive into issues that very few are willing to talk about. This has made me very popular in good and bad ways. I do not pull my punches and tend to write what I feel. This leads to some rather insane characters that deal with life in rather usual ways. To tell you ASD consists of two 120,000 word novels and 2 shorter side stories. People keep demanding for more of this series no matter how insane it gets. I've completed 4 novels to date and have 8 projects underway. People seem to never get enough of my unusual writing style and plots. I'm hoping to finish at least 3 novels this year, finished 2 last year and at this moment I'm close to finishing another short story. Anyways, Sorry to ramble. If you want to read my stories just follow the link in my banner of me and Kim or click on my nick name in Dreaming of Another day and that will lead you to all my projects, completed and otherwise. Well good luck to you. jaa ne Kat

I was complaining to a friend last night about feeling I have too many gay characters in my stories, i.e., am I overdoing it? She said something that really made me think: "Do you ever wonder whether there are too many heterosexual characters in your writing?" Of course not. So why worry?

I too prefer the innocent things in stories. Soft kisses, and cutesy romantic things in general.
And, I too tend to write the odd steamy bit as well. ^^
