what folk bands do you like?
why do you like folk?
or why do you dislike it?
my favorites: finntroll, korpiklaani and eiluvetie
i only listen to folk for about 2 weeks so i don't know many of it.

I recently got into Folk Metal as well. 3nodding
So far, my favorites are Ensiferum (Viking as well), Elvenking (Power as well), Finntroll, Moonsorrow, and Vintersorg (Progressive Viking/Folk).

I love Folk... violins, flutes, pipes, harps, or other folkish instruments are ALWAYS a good idea when combined with rock music... and when they are not combined with anything but their own influences... then they are amazing as well !!
Regarding to metal, I've always liked Finntroll, Korpiklaani, Shaman, Ensiferum, Mago de Oz
And talking progressive with flutes: JETHRO TULL is teh amazingness

ayreon uses a complete folk band on the album: "the human equation" too smile
having folk instuments gives the music much more warmth

Elvenking, FTW when it comes to folk. Though, Falkenbach is a close second. I also like Vintersorg, Borknagar(Vintersorg stuff, only), Finntroll (TROLLHAMMAREN!), Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, and Wintersun.

Jethro Tull won the first grammy for Best Metal Album, and they aren't even Metal. They beat out AC/DC, Metallica, and some other not-metal-band. They weren't even together at the time!!!
