The natural boundary of Ylva's territory was where the river began at the lake. That was the place where the clear lakewater turned into the slightly muddier water of the currents. It was at this place that Ylva's natural river camouflage ended, which was one of the reasons she rarely left the river for the lake. It just wasn't safe, not to mention it wasn't her turf.

Full, content, and not willing to take the risk, she decided not to venture directly in to the lake itself. She simply slid herself up onto the riverbank near the junction between river and lake, digging her belly a bit into the mud to rest and sun in peace. This was the sunniest spot along the entire river, and she was loathe to pass it by today just to avoid whichever of her kind was nearby. After all, she was still inside her own territory, if only just barely.

Zale's amber eyes searched the lake cautiously. Once or twice a day some fool would try and take over his territory. He didn't catch sight of anything... yet. He surfaced to the top of the lake and squinted as the sun became brighter. he never really like how bright the thing was and tried to avoid it as much as he could.

Lowering his head to just barely above the water, he looked about and noticed something that looked like another wyrm. Zale growled and watched her carefully, he didn't like how close she was to the beginning of his turf. Slowly he approached the other.

Happily sprawled out on the riverbank mud, Ylva was at first blissfully unaware that she was being watched. While she was alert for presences outside of the water (humanoids, land-dwelling wyrms, and possible food-animals), she was fairly unconcerned with what was in the water. She was still on the river's edge, after all, and since it was her patch of river, few wyrms dared to venture in. The only part she was worried about was the lake, which she was keeping a very close watch on.

It took her a moment to spy something moving in the water. Her yellow eyes narrowed, and she stared as it very slowly moved closer. Oh, what a bother. It appeared some other wyrm had taken up residence in the lake. Pfft. She was still on her turf. Whomever it was had no grounds to come fuss at her.

Still, she kept a close eye on the approaching wyrm, not really wanting to take her chances. What a pain this was.

He stopped a few feet away from where the other wyrm was sprawled out. he snorted she seemed to be very close to the edge but not yet on his turf. Staying there, not wanting to get into a conflict.. yet, he kept watch on her and a bird that seemed to pass by. Just one slip up and either one would be aproached by an agrivated wyrm.

Now this was annoying. She couldn't even sun in peace without being accosted by something or other, and in this case, it happened to be another of her type, another water wyrm. Inconvenient, especially considering that he was indeed a 'he' (if the sails he had were anything to go by) and was likely about to go territorial and possessive the instant she twitched. What a royal pain. So much for peace.

"You skulking about there is not going to make me move," she informed him, sounding quite cross. "I have every right to be here, so you can shove off."

He was starring at the bird now with a sharp eye, it seem to be very nervous. For what reason though? He smirked then shifted comfortably onto his back. Closing one eye and looking at the ripples that had formed around him from the movement, with the opened one.

"I didn't think you were going to move. And I suppose I have the right to be here as well, seeing as I'm in my own turf." He spoke with a sardonic voice.

Ylva snorted. "Your own lousy turf, which I wouldn't trade the whole river system for," she replied sotto voce, not at all impressed. "Since you feel obliged to disturb my rest, you can at least do so a greater distance away. I was here first."

The crocodilian water wyrm, less than thrilled by this unwelcome party-crasher, simply stayed put on her muddy riverbank, her mottled back soaking up the welcome rays of sunshine. It would have been a perfect scenario, but for the idiot ruining her peace. He had an entire lake to frolic in. Did he have to be there?

He shrugged off the first part and closed his other eye. "You may of been here first, but unless you want to try and make me go away, I'm not moving an inch."

He smirked to himself and became satisfied. First he catches a big fish... and now he gets to torture another, how can this not be fun? But still Zale kept his senses up, not lowering his guard one bit. Who knows how strong she could be anyway.

First, he had been irritating. Then he had been annoying. Now, the other water wyrm was seriously starting to tick her off. Ylva gave a long, low hiss. "Move," she said aloud, her voice a low and rasping growl. Any wyrm with sense would have run a long time ago; she had a reputation of sorts in the area. This other wyrm was either a newcomer or a complete moron.

Her tail twitched once, and her legs moved closer into her sides, her feet braced in the mud in preparation to move at the slightest provocation.

Zale kicked his foot and yawned. "Are you threatening me?" The day is becoming much more fun now. He hasn't been challenged in ages and now, he can sense that she would be a fun one to brawl with.

He kicked his foot again waiting for the others response. Hopeful for a nice long fight.

"Nope."

That was the only warning she gave before mud flew behind her, and her body slid straight across the muddy riverbank, straight at the male water wyrm. Her claws were extended, and her jaws were gaping open. Her hiss of anger had escalated into a loud roar, and she was simply in no mood to be trifled with at the moment. It wasn't often that the water wyrm lost her temper, but infringement upon her peace was fair grounds for attack.

"Good."

His eyes flashed a deep scarlet red as he dove into the lake escaping with a deep scratch on his tail. He gnarled deeply as the blood swirled around him. Although in pain he smirked and hurled himself straight at the female wyrm, reaching up furiously at the one who dared to scratch him.

Ylva had given a silent cheer of triumph when he disappeared into the lake. Good! He was gone! The sight of blood in the water had thrilled her; her annoyance was gone. She was sliding down the last few feet of mud into the river when he reappeared. Her hiss became a high-pitched shriek of pain and rage as something sharp connected with her side, and she lashed out with her powerful tail before sliding all the way down into the water. She glanced back to see blood coming out of the gash. How dare he! She sank deeper into the muddy river water, a tiny stream of bubbles escaping her nostrils.

Skidding across the water he forced himself to stop and licked the metallic tasting blood off his mouth. The taste had always been one of his favorites. Zale searched for her when she disappeared into her disgustingly muddy water. Maybe she had give up? He flicked his tail at the thought. If so it wasn't as fun. Slowly he sunk back into the water waiting for her to reappear.

Ylva could see through the water and faintly saw his form sinking into the deeper water. She stayed very still in the water, her limbs in close to her sides. She could turn and vanish deeper into her territory. But that was cowardly, and this male needed to be punished for disturbing her rest. She tucked the limbs in closer to her sides and moved her body in a serpentine fashion, shooting through the water like chained lightning to ram the male out in the clearer lake water.
