Prologue

No one lives forever.

True, eternity had blessed those few beings from birth to a taste at an endless life. However, eternity is like a barren road that leads to nowhere: you start walking, not because you want to, but because that is what you were designed to do by that fickle mistress often referred to as fate.

At first, your excited and naive, like a child, wondering what awaits you the further your feet take you. In time, you'll grow older, and experience those changes in both the world and yourself that you will always remember. Wars, times of peace, and the ever evolving cultures and advances of civilization get mixed in with the loved ones, enemies, and other trivial journeys that determine life's outcome.

Time is, by definition, a series of "moments." The nature of a moment is "a beginning of the future and an end of the past.", and it is only eternity that disrupts this absolute definition.

Eventually, the longer you travel down the road, the more the memory of you fades from the minds of those who once knew you. Others around you, not gifted with infinity, are dying and leaving you lonely and without any way to stop your journey. But, no matter how long you live, there is the distinct possibility that you will have lived for nothing.

If you are forgotten, like an old box of keepsakes kept in the darkest corner of an attic, collecting dust, your life looses importance; you might as well be dead.

The solution: leave something for people to remember you by. Or, better yet, someone to carry on your legacy.

The future generations are the reflection of what we leave behind when we grow old. It is our job to raise these children and supply them with the knowledge to change the future. Through them, we can advise them against the mistakes we made when we were younger, and in turn affect how generations after them will be able to live.

This is the motto of the Peristal Military Academy: "The Future Begins with the Past"

It is the job of the Academy to not only train exceptional students to one day protect their home nations, but to help them to grow both body and mind. It is the goal of the teachers to take the potential resting within each and every child and aid in the nourishment of the power resting within. It is the hope that the students will rise above themselves, and pave the way for a brighter, more rewarding future.

A.U.Kruschev, Founder

This plaque sits beneath the statue of the Founder in the courtyard of the Academy, as a reminder of his life's work. It, like the sturdy stones beneath the school, stands as the foundation of the ambitions taken on when the Academy was founded, and still remains to this day. No child, so long as they have the passion and determination, would ever be turned away from the Academy's doors, no matter the age or race. His memory resides in the very halls of the building, and in the hearts of the teachers and students that work together to further follow his dream.

Rules

Pretty much, the rules for this particular rp are the same for the others, but just for the sake of posting something here, here are the rules:

1- First, and foremost...enjoy yourself and have fun. I mean, that is what we're here for, correct?

2- Godmoding is only allowed to the moderators (if the occasion calls for it)

3- Romance is to remain at a maximum level of PG-13...none of that nasty stuff in here.

4- Remember: Literate writing and enough of it to get the point across...no need to overdo it, but creativity is always welcome.

5- There is going to be the option of either playing a faculty member, or a student. Either way, there is a set number for each category, so when you fill out a character sheet, please PM it to me so that it can be approved before I add it and you can post.

Name: Gallaudet Vigoth
Nickname: Raijū (demon of lightning/thunder)
Age: 25
Race: human
Gender: female
KOM: lightning
Magic: N/A
Weapons: a pair of dansen uchiwa (iron fans) that she can charge her magic through to give them extra properties.
Classes: (please choose at most two of each for now)

    Morning:

-Apprenticeship: Gallaudet, in particular, assigns the daily assignments for the students

    Afternoon:

-Advanced Training: Gallaudet is the head of the physical training department, though she only teaches an afternoon class. Her routine is rigorous, and since her employment at the Academy she has scared off many students from her class.
-Art (Gallaudet teaches drama, which is a class that alternates days; on the other days she advises in the music department)

Appearance: Gallaudet stands a good five feet seven inches. Her hair, a vibrant shade of reddish-blonde, is shoulder length though is often pulled back in a tight bun. Her eyes are a shade of orange that resembles amber, just a tad bit lighter. Her gaze is usually harsh and calculating, though there are certain things that can change her disposition. She is apt to wear a hakama and a high collared no sleeve shirt, both in black; the collar hides the numbers on the back of her neck. Also, she walks with a distinct limp in her left leg, though unless travelling does not need a crutch.
Brief Bio: In Gallaudet's home town, a little no named village outside of Yaroh, it was rare that any children would be born with magical abilities. At birth, every child was branded with a number and carefully examined in hopes that even one of the newborns would grow to show signs of magic. In fifty years, Gallaudet was the only child that possessed what they were looking for. Due to this, she was heavily sheltered throughout the first half of her life as they tried to mold her to their whim. She was taught by the best the city had to offer; unfortunately, their best was far too inadequate to the natural level of power she contained. Thus, after twelve years of what could be considered boredom, she ran away from her home to look for a better teacher. As she got older and more refined, she earned her nickname as a legionnaire for a rich noble that, in return for her services, helped her with her studies. Not too long after she turned twenty, she again became bored with her lifestyle, and instead settled down in Peristal where she now resides as the head teacher and militant advisor at an academy for prodigy and otherwise gifted children.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Devlin Reinhard
Nickname: The Two-Faced; also The Silver Fox
Age: 20
Race: Human
Gender: Jack-of-all-trades. Skilled alchemist, mercenary and assassin.
KOM: Ice
Magic: N/A
Weapons: Devlin carries three main weapons on his person and favors them in the following order: his split-blade katana (Niwaruiki) that inflicts a deep twin slash that prevents proper healing or even stitching. No, he is not a nice man. He also carries Niwaruiki's twin, the serrated katana. (I don't have a name for this one yet. Please be patient with me!) It has one blade, but it is poisoned and inflicts a shallow, but nasty and painful cut. The last is his blacksnake, which he uses only if he has to. Or if Ophelia is tapping her pencil on the desk. Then he'll snap her pencil from the front of the classroom.
Classes: (please choose at most two of each for now)

    Morning:

    -Alchemy

    Afternoon:

    -Advanced Magic Use

Appearance: Devlin stands at a good 6' 2" with silver hair that reaches a little past his shoulders. He only has one eye, since he lost the other in a fight with a gobler. The remaining eye is a hazel color with a few gold flecks. "Black" Devlin's eyes appear almost black and have smaller irises. He is overall fairly well-muscled and lean from a life on the move.
Brief Bio: Devlin was born into a family of prominent mages, but was unfortunate enough to be suspected of demonic possession. He was cast out at age 13 and was forced to make his way in the world by any means possible. In his family's defense, it did seem that he was possessed, but in truth, Devlin just has a severe case of Bipolar. He will often talk to his flip personality (if not always out loud) and the "Black" Devlin will manifest itself if "White" Devlin is severely injured, threatened, or just very annoyed.
Familiar: A rather small fox named Zhong-Shou. Zhong-Shou can understand human speech, but can not speak himself. He can also work minor illusionary magics.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gaianame: Karu Hitoshi
Name: Karu Hitoshi
Nickname: Silver Wolf
Age: ?
Gender: Male
Race: Transbeastile/wolf
KoM: Light
Magic: None
Weapon: The Wolf's Bane
Class: Swordsmanship (morning and afternoon)
Appearance: Karu Hitoshi
Brief Bio: Brother to Heshiro, and the said to be late Rubin Hitoshi. He was left to fend for his brother many years ago. Finding a life of crime far more rewarding than normalicy, he adopted theivery. Finding theivery a bit of a hassle, and far less rewarding than he had hoped for he later went on to becoming a merc at the young age of 15. He quickly became proficient at his new line of work, but still in a sense felt unsatisfied. He wanted to maim, kill, destroy those who would jeopeordize his way of life, so he became an assassin at 16. His heart grew cold to everyone, but his youngest brother. His legend soon began to grow throughout the years. People would whisper remedies of how he had single handedly taken on 150 of Peristal's men...and survived. More rumors came, and passed as he finally reached the age of 23. He became the most hunted assassin even known, and still he goes about life with not a care in the world. Only two rules this cold blooded killer has...no women, and no children...and no one is exempt from death as long as they attempt to take his life.

"Brother...what do you think of the rumors that have been spreading about lately?" asked Karu as he felt the pointed end of a needle slip through his flesh.
Heshiro being quite the little medic chuckled as he pulled the thread through, and laced together his brother's wound.
"I dunno...I kind of like them, especially the one about you and the 150 men you slaughtered. News travels quickly nowadays."
Karu chuckled as he felt the needle pierce into his skin again leading the thread. He shook his head, and peeked back smiling at Heshiro.
"Your a good kid Heshiro...don't ever change."

]Name: Ophelia
Nickname: Phel
Age: 13
Race: blood elf
Gender: female
KOM: earth
Magic: N/A
Weapons: Ophelia carries three weapons, two of which are obvious at first glance; these are her twin katana. What makes these katana special is that they are each possessed by a spirit, one of her mother and the other her father, although she does not remember them as such. Gerhn, at her left, has the special ability to separate into three sections connected by chain to extend her reach while attacking; Vea, at her right, glows red when an enemy is nearby, or more specifically when there is someone near her that plans on attacking her, and has a serated right side, used to shear flesh from bones. Ophelia's not so obvious weapon is the stuffed rabbit she carries with her. This toy lovingly named "Charlie" is the only other item she still has from her past. He is a one eyed, frayed-eared, sad looking thing that has seen many years of wear and tear though Ophelia refuses to get rid of him. Charlie is, however, more than meets the eye; upon Ophelia's command or in a dire situation, Charlie can grow to approximately 20 times his original size (it is possible for him to get much larger, but the bigger he is the more energy it takes out of her) and becomes as solid as stone. When in this larger state, Charlie takes on his own personality and essentially has a mind of his own, doing whatever is necessary to protect Ophelia for as long as he can.
Grade Level: B
Classes:
    Morning:
-Alchemy (this is Ophelia's second favorite class because she gets to be with her only student friends, Jun and Luesa, and her second favorite teacher Devlin)
-History of Gi (this is Ophelia's least favorite class, though she has yet to tell anyone why...)
    Afternoon:
-((not really a class, but during lunch Ophelia usually stays with Gallaudet))
    -Advanced Magic Use
    -Arts (drama)

Appearance: Ophelia, at 5'0", is comparatively small for her age. It is perhaps because of her nature and mindset that she is seen as being smaller than she actually is. Her features, however, make up for any normality she might have had. Her hair and eyes are both blue, though her hair is more of a navy blue and her eyes are a bright turquoise; her hair is always disheveled, like she has permanent bed-head though without the tangling, and her eyes have identical marks right below her iris: a group of small silver dots that are only discernable close up, whereas from any other distance the grouping just looks like glass as though her eyes were that of a doll. Perhaps the most peculiar thing about her appearance is the fact that her entire left arm is fake. Having lost the original in an accident she has never fully detailed, the new one is made of wood that she controls 'normally' with magic.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k319/xxsparrowsxxlockexx/Phel.jpg
Brief Bio: When Ophelia was much younger, her parents lived with her in Damasses. They were once rather adventurous, and had only decided to settle down once her mother became pregnant with her. It was their hopes that they could protect Ophelia from the way of life they once had, and to raise her to be someone virtuous. Unfortunately, their dreams were shot down on a cold, rainy night as they were heading back home after a ride in the countryside. A group of bandits led by an assassin attacked their party, killing both of her parents as they tried to protect her; the assassin had been sent to murder her parents because of a debt they had not paid since they gave up their past life. The man had not known they had a daughter, and while inspecting their carriage for loot, found her huddled in a corner with Charlie. This particular assassin had a soft spot for children, so he vowed to raise her as penance for his deed. Ophelia suffers from serious bouts of amnesia and insomnia as a side effect of loosing her parents; her insomnia also has to do with her terrible fear of small, dark spaces. Some people also think that she is completely insane as she is often found muttering nonsensical things to herself and things no one else can see. Ophelia is to spend three years in the Academy while her guardian goes on an extended mission, as he saw it the best place for her to be trained in his absence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Juneaux Webber
Nickname: Jun
Age: 17
Race: human
Gender: male
KOM: Metal
Magic: N/A
Weapons: Apart from a standard, nothing special katana, Jun's weapons of choice are two bladed discs with a handle in the center and very small metal balls. He carries a bag of these balls that he can, when on a mission that needs to be done discretely, put into the victim by way of food or drink and later pull them out from the outside with his magic, no matter where in the body they are located.
Grade Level: A
Classes:
    Morning:
    -Alchemy
-Apprenticeship (Jun is torn between blacksmith and being a baker like his mother)
    Afternoon:
    -Economy Studies
-Arts (music; Jun has independent studies during this time)

Appearance: Reaching in at almost 6 feet tall, Jun is relatively thin for his height. His long legs make up most of his height, and he seems fit to be a runner despite never being able to due to his birth defect. That and he doesn't tend to run for or from any occasion: he is the poster boy for laziness. His hair, a light blonde, barely brushes his neck and is kept that short to keep it low maintenance. He isn't a morning person, so the less the effort the better. Two scars running from the bridge of the nose below the eyes make him look at least ten years older. Jun's eyes, at least the left one, are an olive-like color; his right eye was lost when he was younger, thus he wears a white, square eye patch all the time. Apart from his signature eye patch, Jun has been known to have an occasional cigarette.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k319/xxsparrowsxxlockexx/Jun_by_maaria.jpg
Brief Bio: Only three things are well known about Juneaux's past. First, he was born in Peristal to a baker and a gambler with horrible luck and control. His mother tried her best to both ignore her husband's problem and raise her son to make something of himself; his father had nothing for him but regret and abuse, because to him Jun was nothing but a waste of space and money. Jun's mother was often subject to the same abuse as Jun, until Jun got old enough to defend her. During their last fight, Jun overpowered his father and tossed him out of a third story window, ending 13 years of mistreatment. Second, Jun was born with a rare defect that does two unrelated things. Jun is apt to falling asleep randomly, similarly to the effects of narcolepsy. Also, Jun's blood does not clot normally when he gets hurt, as it is thinner due partially to an infection in his bone marrow. He has come to the realization that he will most likely die at a young age, and therefore accepts death welcomingly. Third, the series of events in which Jun lost his eye are not well known. What is certain is that one of the men Jun's father had wronged during his lifetime attacked Jun to get revenge, and since Jun does not usually like to talk about his eye, the details are left to speculation and gossip. Jun entered the Academy under the wishes of his mother, who hoped the academy could do more for him than she ever could.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Luesa Leroux
Nickname: Puppetmaster
Age: 15
Race: elf
Gender: female
KOM: no
Magic: summoning (puppets)
Weapons: Luesa has specialized her magic to be able to summon five puppets, each with their own purpose and damage done to her person after they are summoned

Puppet 1- Karakasa
Purpose- This puppet fights with an umbrella where, in the framework, tiny poisoned needles can be deployed. If the needles strike their target, the poison provides a temporary state of paralysis, which makes this puppet ideal for escaping a fight.
Damage- As the weakest of the five, Karakasa does the minimal damage to Luesa. What it does do is temporarily hinder her reaction speed when trying to dodge or block an enemy's attack.

Puppet 2- Brunnhilde
Purpose- This is the most used puppet of the five, as it is solely used for attacking. It wields a long spear, which makes it useful for long range fighting. This puppet is also the fastest of the five
Damage- Whatever damage Brunhilde takes is reflected back onto Luesa.

Puppet 3- Seer
Purpose- This is Luesa's scouting puppet. Since it can fly, it is used to scout out an area while Jennai can stay out of harm's way.
Damage- To use Seer, Luesa must put her conciousness into the puppet, leaving her body defenseless. This is why Luesa will do her best to hide before using the third puppet.

Puppet 4- Ssendam
Purpose- Luesa has only ever had to use Ssendam once. Ssendam has the ability to trap a victim's subconscious within an illusion, in which whatever damage is taken reflects onto the victim's body.
Damage- Apart from the high chance of missing with Ssendam's attack, every time Luesa misses, the attack had the chance of hitting her instead, and the more times she is hit the less likely it is that she can defend herself against it.

Puppet 5- Reaper
Purpose- This puppet was designed will the sole purpose of killing magic users. When summoned, it initiates the Wheel of Fate, which determines what kind of damage will be done to a victim.
Damage- Luesa has never used this puppet before, and for a very good reason. When the reaper appears, it immediately begins to feed off of her life source, and if the Wheel of Fate succeeds in landing on the worst of the attacks, it will take her soul as payment.
Grade Level: B
Classes: (please choose at most two of each for now)
    Morning:
    -Alchemy
    -Basic Training
    Afternoon:
    -Advanced Magic Use
    -Arts (drama)

Appearance: Luesa stands at an average height for her age at five feet three inches. Her hair, a rich sable with hints of blue when looked at in certain lights, matches in length her height, and when performing is kept in a rope-like braid. The only thing that is remotely remarkable about her appearance is her eyes. They do not share the same color. Her left is the color of grain under an afternoon sun, with an odd little mark, like a scratch, of a darker hazel color; her right is a striking lavender that deepens or lightens naturally with her mood. She is hardly found wearing anything other than her performing outfit, but her other favorite outfit is a rather plain white dress with long sleeves.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k319/xxsparrowsxxlockexx/Upside_down.jpg
Brief Bio: The ability to control the Five was passed down through the generations of Luesa's family. What was strange was that the ability had only been found in the male side of the family. Born in Yaroh to a family of performers, Luesa was always on the move. Living out of a covered wagon, she knew not much else of the world except for what she saw and what her mother and father taught her. It was hard to come by friends, so Luesa began making non-magical puppets to entertain herself with, from the size of her hand to that of an average adult. It was when he saw this talent that her father began teaching her to both summon and use the five. The problem was, and the reason for her actually being enrolled into the Academy, she could not always control her magic output, so her family sent her to be trained.

The Academy is a large castle located just outside of the human capital of Peristal. Although the majority of the school's population is human, no student has ever been turned down due to race. It is one way that the children can learn tolerance of the other inhabitants of Gi. Students have the choice to live in the dormitories, and all eat together in the dinning commons. During free periods, the students can enjoy the 25 acres of gardens and forest, the stables, and the lake.

There are also the ruins of the original Academy building and the Founder's home, destroyed in a fire during the time of the Third Headmaster. The current building was built by the descendant of the Founder, who became the Fourth Headmaster of the school soon there after.

She knew it was time to get up. The birds outside, chirping like madmen, and the tiny ray of light that cut right through the small gap in the thick curtains and hit her right in the eye had been reminding her of that for the past half hour. Moaning, she took the pillow from beneath her head and put it over her face, trying to muffle out the sound. For a few moments, she reveled in the warm, dark silence. Until she remembered that she was mortal and needed to breathe.

With one hand, she tossed the pillow at the window, causing the curtains to flutter and let in an even bigger ray of that horrible morning light. "Alright, I'm up." she muttered to no one, sliding out of bed. Rubbing her eyes with one hand she used the other to throw open the curtains. The light flooded in as though she had just broken the dam keeping it under control, and she recoiled, blinking furiously to try and regain her sight.

It was at this crucial time of morning that her mood for the rest of the day would be determined. In this blinded state, she moved and got her foot stuck on the end of the curtain, loosing her balance and ultimately falling ungracefully to the floor. So far, it was turning out to be pretty crappy, and proved to be even more so as she hit her head on the end of her bed while trying to get back to her feet. She mumbled some rather questionable things under her breath as she removed her nightgown, stepping out of it as it pooled beneath her on the floor. No matter how much she loved that nightgown, she could not teach classes in it no matter how much she just wanted to go back to sleep.

The only reason she was up earlier than usual was because she knew there was a lot of paperwork waiting for her in her office. It was not uncommon for her to arrive to her classes late, though the headmaster of the school could not in good conscience fire her because she was one of his top faculty members, despite her laziness sometimes. Dressing was easy enough as the majority of her clothes were similar; she could get dressed in the dark without any fear of leaving her room looking any odder than she did naturally through her disposition. Therefore, in less than fifteen minutes she was heading out her bedroom door in the teacher's quarters, accompanied today by her crutch, as that little fall had excited the pain in her leg.

Her walk down several flights and to the other side of the school was uneventful and silent. Most of the students were asleep, and those that weren't would either be outside or in the commons waiting for breakfast. Thus, her mood was slowly brightening until she opened her office door and spotted the stack of incoming paperwork waiting for her. As she approached it, closing the door behind her, the top of the papers reached the tip of her nose, though granted the stack was on her desk. Sighing heavily, she sat down at her desk, setting her crutch against the wall behind her, knowing that the paper wouldn't disappear, not matter how long she stared at it.

Suddenly, her train of thought was disrupted when she heard a familar laughter in the courtyard just outside the window a few floors below her office. She stood and walked over to the window, leaning against the frame as she looked through the panes of glass on a blue haired girl playing in the flowers. "At least someone's happy today." she thought to herself, smiling.

Morning was the best time of day, in Ophelia's opinion. It was a time of beginnings, just like the mornings before and the mornings to come after. And oh, how she loved the sun. Not quite with the same rapture that she adored the moon, sister to the morning's star and keeper of the only other time of day that gave morning a run for its money. All time was, however, as one to her, as it was not often that she actually slept and therefore the rising and setting of both sun and moon hardly ever escaped her notice. This morning, the moon could still be seen in the sky on the western horizon, and although it was almost made invisible by the gray tinged clouds floating lazily across the sky she could see that it was almost a full moon.

This particular morning, she had stayed in her bed as long as she possibly could stand to, which wasn't very long, because whenever she got bored she had the tendency to walk around. When at last her legs got in them that tingling feeling that seemed to tell her get up and get moving, she crawled out of bed and hopped to the floor. Although she wasn't particularly short and didn't need to jump about like that, she found it terribly enjoyable. The rest of the students, and often some of the teachers, accused her of being overly childish; this was a bit unfair in her opinion, seeing as how she was still, in fact, a child. Saying that a child was childish was most redundant.

Her favorite spot to spend the early morning and late night hours was within the court yard, where it was usually quiet enough for her to hear her own muddled thoughts. Hence, that is exactly where she headed after leaving her room, holding Charlie close as she made her way down the dawn-lit halls. Her bare feet, once tredding on cold stone floors and steps, now delighted in the soft cushioning of the court yard's grass as she stepped down from the hallway. The court yard was made open by glassless arched windows lining the four perimeter walls which, so separated, left ledges within each arched frame where one could sit as though on a bench, and four larger archways, each with their own small set of stairs to allow access into the lowered court yard. Suddenly she found herelf humming an old tune, and in turn singing it as she set Charlie beneath one of the large weeping willows sitting in the corders of the garden.

There shall I visit the place of my birth
And they'll give me a welcome the warmest on earth
All so loving and kind full of music and mirth,
In the sweet sounding language of home.

Kissing the first two fingers of her right hand, she transferred the kiss to the forehead of the rabbit, smiling and laughing as though he had told a marvelous joke. "Too true, my sweet, too true." Spinning around, she leapt up onto the nearest ledge and swung from the column between hers and the next, continuing along the line as she began singing again.

There shall I gaze on the mountains again,
On the fields and the woods and the burns and the glens,
Away 'mong the corries beyond human ken
In the haunts of the deer I will roam

Leaping down from the last ledge of the group, she landed in the grass. Laying back, she looked up at the sky above; she could see a face before her, though more in thought than in form. The scars of numerous battles, both physical to the skin and hidden in copper-shaded eyes, were softened by the lavender hair that softly caressed the strong facial features and the smile she knew too well. She reached out, hoping to touch something real, but was disappointed with formless space as the image disappeared. Sighing heavily, she closed her eyes.

Hail to the mountains with summits of blue,
To the glens with their meadows of sunshine and dew.
To the women and men ever constant and true,
Ever ready to welcome one home.

With her eyes closed, she tried to call back that blissful image to no success. However, she suddenly heard soft footsteps nearby, and when she opened her eyes again she was greeted by another familiar face, true this time in its form. A smile lit her lips in greeting. "G'morning."

Juneaux was, by all means, a light sleeper. Something as light as a fly could barely graze his skin and he would wake as though someone had just screamed in his ear. What woke him this particular morning was the sound of light footsteps in the hallway just outside his bedroom door. The footsteps had halted in front of his door, though only for a moment before disappearing towards the stairwell. He had an idea of whose feet they were, and if he was right he would have to scold her for leaving her room so early and alone.

To say he was protective was a bit of an understatement. Years of having to keep his mother from the grunt of his father's abuse had left a mark on the way he treated those around him. The girl in question that had woken him up was very special to him, and he did his best to shield her from the small minded student body and faculty and their abuses to a girl whose mind had been afflicted by a past as gruesome as his own. Thus, he had taken up the role of guardian to a little blue haired girl four years his junior.

Upon leaving his room, kept dark due to personal preference, he squinted against the sudden brightness of the morning light. Frowning in detest, he followed the same path the footsteps had, as his feet more than his eyes led him to the court yard. Juneaux could suddenly soft singing; the voice was so familiar that there was no doubt in the voice's origin. Slowly his eyes adjusted as he stepped down into the courtyard, looking around. To his left in the far corner he could see, propped up against the furthest tree the little stuffed rabbit she always carried, its head tilted down near it's chest where it had fallen naturally with the help of gravity; her little feet could still be seen imprinted into the fresh grass, each blade slowly trying to regain its former height. Following these footsteps, he came upon the very girl he expected, lying in the grass as though it were her own bed, singing a little tune to herself.

He stood above her, and waited until she opened her eyes. A sweet smile lit her lips, and in a soft, mouse-like voice she said with a certain gaiety, "G'morning." Juneaux smiled back, crouching down to get out of the direct sun's rays that seemed to be haunting him. From his crouched position, he was in the shade and out of its stinging way.

"Couldn't sleep, eh?" he questioned, shaking his head in disbelief. "I can't even begin to imagine how you make it through the day on the amount of sleep you get. Regardless, how are you this morning Phel?"

It was cold, and dark, and even though she couldn't see the light, Luesa knew it was just behind her. It was also silent, the kind of abolute silence that was lost between comforting and maddening. Her heart beat, thrumming more within her than without, was the only sound she heard for a long time.

You can't stay under forever...

The voice was soft, though it echoed in her head as though someone had slammed a door shut in a completely empty house. She recognized the voice and tried reasoning with it. "But I feel safe here...is there anything wrong with that?"

There are people waiting for you...

She smirked, opening her eyes partially. "Can't they wait? I don't want to leave..." Luesa could feel something grabbing at her, pulling her slowly towards the light. "No," she muttered, though with no feeling behind the statement. "Just a little longer...please..." Suddenly, her back was exposed to the air and she threw her head back to take in the oxygen reluctantly. Luesa looked around and saw that she was still out in the lake; she liked taking morning dips in the cool water, because it allowed her to separate herself from the world and surround herself in that silence she craved. She held her head, brushing back the mass of black hair trying with all its might to free itself from the tight braid she had it in.

The sun was out now, and she was almost sad to see that the moon had disappeared. That little voice and that force pulling her out was Brunnhilde, her wooden hand now outstretched as she waited for Luesa to accept it. She did so with a sigh, climbing out of the water and onto the shore. Shaking most of the water off before Brunnhilde wrapped her in a towel, Luesa looked over at her most frequented puppet, smiling. "I'm sorry Brunnhilde...I got caught up in my thoughts."
You'll be late for class at this rate...

"I know, I know." she muttered in response, drying herself off before tossing the towel aside and slipping into her dress left laid over a tree branch, blowing like a flag in the wind. Holding her hand out to Brunnhilde, a bright flash of white light hit the puppet. When the light was gone, Luesa instead held in her hand a miniature version of the puppet, carefully stowing it away in her bag with the other four. With bag slung over her shoulder and shoes in hand, Luesa rushed back up the dirt path intertwined within the trees and across the stretch of field between the entrance to the forest and the entrance to the school. She couldn't be late today, she suddenly remembered; she silently thanked Brunnhilde for getting her out early. She had been late twice this week already, and knew that Devlin wouldn't be so forgiving for a third time. She did, after all, have him twice during the day, which always meant twice the punishment.

Luckily, when she had finally rushed into the school and up to the second floor, her teacher hadn't arrived yet. "Phew," she sighed, taking the time to finally put her shoes back on, lacing them up carefully. Her hair, now dry, needed to be redone, thus she went about braiding it once again as she sat down on the window ledge. "So long as he's late himself, I won't get in trouble." Luesa smiled, searching through her bag once she had finished with her hair. Suddenly, footsteps alerted her to someone's arrival, and she turned to see who it was.

Devlin had been awake since sunup. Old habits die hard, and he was used to an early start to his day. Zhong-Shou sat on the bed, wagging his bushy tail at his companion. The young man smiled at his familar and extended a hand, inviting the little fox up onto his shoulder.

"...I suppose it's time for classes, hm?" Devlin said to no one in particular. Zhong-Shou hopped off of Devlin's shoulder and nudged something on the bedside table, knocking it onto the floor.

He knelt and retrieved the item. "Ah... thank you. It wouldn't be any good to frighten my students away now, would it?" he smiled, pulling his eyepatch on.

"I believe we are running late, Zhong-Shou. We ought to head to the classroom. Am I forgetting anything else?"

The little fox responded by returning to its prior spot on Devlin's left shoulder. He smiled again and walked out the door, grabbing his lesson guide as he did so.

Walking down the terrace, he spotted Ophelia's distinctive blue hair near her usual spot. He stopped and called over to the girl, reminding her that class was soon to start. She said something back before turning her attention back to Jun.

Devlin made his way over to his classroom and was greeted by Luesa, who was sitting on the window ledge, finishing a plait in her hair.

"On time for once, Luesa? ...or am I just late?"

Once she saw that Ophelia was no longer alone, Gallaudet turned her attention back to her paperwork with a groan. She was far from motivated, in the least, and felt like crawling under her desk and napping until her afternoon class started. A knock at the door however halted her wish of shrinking into the little space. "Come in." she called out, leaning back in her chair.

The door opened to the sight of the Headmaster, Elette Braixe, a fourty year old man who still looked in his prime, with clean cut black hair, green eyes, and an certain strictness to him at first glance. This assumption was a horrible misunderstanding, because as soon as he opened his mouth he became at least twenty years younger. "G'morning my favorite co-worker!"

"Oh please, Elette, don't make me blush this early in the morning."

"Aw, what's wrong? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?"

"More like the wrong side of my life." He laughed, and she chuckled in turn; they were rather close, and acted much like brother and sister, despite the age gap. Elette closed the door to her office before walking to her side of the desk, leaning against her desk.

"Well, that's what I am here for: to brighten up your day."

"I think the sun beat you to it. I've had enough brightness to last me the rest of the day." Gallaudet offered Elette something to drink, to which he happily excepted. As she got up and began rummaging through the cabinet behind her desk, Elette continued.

"Jokes aside, we have a problem on our hands. I'm sure you've noticed that a few of our students have gone missing." She nodded, pouring him a glass of the ale she kept secretly for those days when she needed a little pick-me-up; Elette didn't even double take when he saw the liquor, as he himself kept his own stash. In the past two months, a total of seven students had gone missing, all but two of which were female. The teachers had been trying their best to keep their disappearances a secret, but how successful could that really be in a school filled with teenagers?

"Of course, but what of it? Has another student gone missing?" Pouring herself a drink, they both took a sip, before Elette shook his head, holding his drink by the top on his knee.

"Not quite...one of the ones that was missing has been found dead." It had finally happened; Gallaudet set her drink down and held her head in her hand.

"Has anyone told the students?"

"Luckily no. The girl was discovered this morning in the stables."

"Good," Her hand moved to her neck as she rubbed it absent mindedly. "Let's keep it that way for as long as we can. We're going to have to do something more to find the culprit before someone else gets hurt."

"I agree, and that's why I came to you. Leave your paperwork and follow me to my office; we need to make a plan." Exhaling heavily, she stood and followed Elette out of her office, leaving the untouched stack of paper and two half empty glasses sittting on her desk.

"Oh, no better than tomorrow and no worse than yesturday." she replied, smiling. She reached up and poked him gently in his nose, giggling. "But now that you're here I suppose I am much better."

Jun was always nice to Ophelia, which was very different from how she was treated by the other students. The only thing she didn't like was how he went out of his way to defend her when she was being picked on; she appreciated it, but didn't think she deserved it.

Suddenly, Ophelia gasped, flipping over and propping herself up on her elbows. "Jun, can I come watch you practice today? Please, please!"

Jun nodded and she cheered. Ophelia loved listening to Jun play his instrument, because in her opinion he was so good at it. Jun suddenly took her hand and helped her up. She opened her mouth to say something, when she heard Devlin call out to her as he passed by the courtyard.

"Yes sir, we're coming." Looking back at Jun, she exclaimed, "Let me grab Charlie before we're late." before running back over to the willow tree. The stuffed rabbit hadn't moved, though she hadn't expected it to.

"Still sleeping, I see." she whispered, smiling as she picked him up and held him close to her as she rushed back to Jun. "I'll try and be as quiet as I can, I promise." Once at Jun's side again, Ophelia took his hand as they rushed up to Devlin's class. She slowed down a few yards from Devlin and the girl she liked named Luesa, shuffling her barefeet as she walked slightly behind Jun.
