The Early Years
The year was 1999. November to be exact. A couple of young teens had decided that wrestling was a passion of theirs. It coupled alongside the release of the game "Wrestlemania 2000" for the Nintendo 64.
Now prior to this, these teens had watched and lived wrestling before they even knew what it truly was. But with the release of this game these kids created a wrestling federation known as the EWI, the Extreme Wrestling Impersonators.
Young local wrestlers flocked to the new found federation in hopes of finally getting somewhere. Some of these stars included Shane McMahon, AJ Styles, Matt Hardy 1.0, and Red Mysterio to name a few.
The EWI never really got the big push they hoped for. They were inexperienced on the business side of things and didn't really know how to run a real federation. However, a more successful company saw the EWI as a good investment. The WIF (Wrestling Impersonators Federation) took the opportunity to purchase the EWI along with all the contracts.
Thus the GWC was born. The two merged companies decided to continue on the same path together, repackage the stars, and create a good wrestling promotion that could one day possibly rival that of WWE or WCW.
The Gaia Wrestling Coporation
GWC was official formed in the winter of 2001. The stars of both the EWI and WIF collided, some with new gimmicks, some with old. Three of the top characters in the GWC today were created during this time. Phenominal one and Red Mysterio were repackaged as The Blood Brothers. Mechajaclan competed in a tournament for the GWC World Heavyweight Champion. He won the tournament, defeating 5 others guys in a battle royal, to become the first GWC champion.
GWC went on for many years to come, slowly building up talent. However they were met with a wave of fear when WWE bought out competitors WCW and ECW. GWC thought that they could stand no chance against such a conglomerate but they kept a feeling of utmost determination and trudged on.
GWC was in a golden age. While it was still unable to secure a weekly television spot, it began touring around the country and reeling in more and more fans. The stable known as The Establishment quickly created controversy that fans loved. Shane McMahon stood by the fans as one of the most over heels in wrestling history by winning the GWC Tv Champion after a quick victory to Aj Styles and Red Misterio in a Ultimate X. The Blood Brothers wooed fans in with their unique tag style. All the wrestlers of GWC were seeing only bright futures on the horizon.
GWC-Online
Finally GWC was able to secure a spot on television spot in October of 2005. Making a small deal with ESPN, GWC secured a small 1 hour timeslot from 10:00 PM until 11:00 PM EST on the ESPN2 network. While it wasn't a huge jump, GWC was taking the steps to creating more talent while becoming bigger and better than it was before.
GWC opened its doors to OPEN tryouts to any and all superstars wishing to make a name for themselves in the rising company. Old stars remained, but others stars, some veterans, some new to the business, all jump at the opportunity.
GWC saw a surge of talent within the first few months. The gained talent such as Mechajaclan, The Rob, Undertaker, Sabu, Dave Wills, and many, many more. GWC entered a new era.
Finally, in November of 2005, GWC opened it's doors to the world with its first ever live television broadcast, "Bound for Glory". It was an instant hit as the GWC titles were decided, friends and foes were pitted against one another, and most of all, fans were awed by the performance. GWC was now ready.
Over the course of a year GWC gained and lost some talent. In the first fiscal quarter of 2006, GWC was faced with some troubled times and lack of financing. Some shows had to be cut and management for on the edge of selling the GWC to other companies who had shown interest. It was because of the dedication of the talent themselves that GWC was able to pull through.
GWC continued on then through all hardships with a new feeling of motivation by management. In their eyes their is nothing that can bring GWC down. Through the fires of adversity GWC flew and proved all the critics wrong by becoming one the the most successful businesses in sports entertainment today.
New Owners, and the beginning of the MUI
Red, who created the hole EWI/GWC dicided to step down from the chairman spot to retire from the GWC, the new owner became the crowd favorite Jeff Hardy. Jeff Hardy was a very busy man, he made the company work, but as in most companies there is a man behind the leader, that man was Shane Mcmahon, the only son of the chairman of the World Wrestling Entertainment, Shane got promoted to the VC and tried new stuff with the GWC behind Jeff Hardy's back. After a while he realized that Shane was more dedicaded to the GWC and let him become the new owener of the GWC. Shane tried to make new stuff so he came up with doing a sidekick company called, the Made-Up Impersonating, he said in a interview with BBC that only hiering stars from such big companys as WSX WWE and TNA wasn't the only option to succses. When MUI was formed new stars appered and the first MUI match was held at the big PPV Bound For Glory.
Mecha's Tryout. A new Brand?
The time went by as the GWC grew and grew, but everyone knows new stuff brings new people. One night Defur met up with Mecha ( formely known as Mechajaclan ), as Mecha had Pm'ed Defur saying that he wanted to talk about something important. When they met up Mecha tould Defur about changing the hole comapantyto the EWCF, the GWC to Carnage and the MUI to Intensity. Defur thought it was a good idea and tould the owner Shane McMahon about what Mecha had said to him. Later on Shane approved the idea with the comment "Well Mecha is right I mean how could a company possibly survive without changes?". The changes began and the HQ and stadiums moved, and when they did something happend, the wrestlers hadn't been informed and complains came flowing to the then EWCF about not knowing where to go or where to watch the show. Shane couldn't handle all this so for just a couple of days he gave the EWCF to Defur. A couple of months later Defur had changed the EWCF back to the GWC, as he thought that was the best thing to do. Mecha got demoted from being the Vice President from the comapany to a normal employe(sp?) and is currently in charge of advertising logos promos and such. When Shane came back he was happy but not completely he tould Defur that there was something that was missing, Defur spent some days thinking and came back to Shane to reply. He tould Shane that they could expand the MUI make it bigger and better! Shane wasn't to sure about the idea cause you need resources to make something bigger and better, that's when the Tuesday Night Turmoil came in the story.
Tuesday Night Turmoil
Mecha's plan with the TNT was to bring and train people to later on get into the the GWC, Shane didn't like that however, Shane though that it was to limited and changed the TNT to CNT ( Celeberty Night Turmoil ) where Shane would try getting stars into the company and get more people to watch the show. The premier of the show backfired as no superstar or new people that they could train had come, Shane dicided to shut it down for further use. Later on Shane though about it more and dicided to re-open the show as TNT on one eddition of GWC, the fans didn't like the idea and boo'ed him to the locker rooms. In a interview the next day Shane said that he would try to get TNT to work, but he didn't know how. He also tould the interviewers that he tried to rehire Mecha as a Vice President so he could handle TNT but Mecha turned shane down as Shane had ignored Mecha when he tould Shane that it was going to be a flop. The TNT instead of becoming the GWC's C Show it became a indy show. TNT is currently growing and more and more members are getting intresed.
The Little Blue Spiky FAIL.
After some time GWC started to lose ratings, fast. Defur tried to fix it here and there but couldn't handle the company any longer, so he gave it Decavolt. Unfurtantly Decavolt was caught in an accident and Mecha took over shortly. As the ratings were under 0.2 Mecha decided that he couldn't keep the company this way, but unlike WCW ( selling the company ) he took a turn and changed the whole company to sponsoring and sending episodes of Sonic The Hedgehog. This was a call that everyone was suprised about especially the wrestlers. Some quit others stayed because they didn't have any other to do. The company survived as it gained a bit of ratings and new people. Defur meet up with Mecha and wanted to recreate GWC telling what was left of the suporters that he wouldn't want something that he created and like something as dumb as Sonic. GWC is currently being reconstructed though as an indy feed.
