I like to go through and read some posts, just to see if i can pick up some extra info... but i soon quite after i didnt know what you all meant... So maybe just a vocab traslator (put it into lamen terms).
Such as, whats a distro? Whats the different kinds of Linux? Whats the different from free and the costing version on Linux? Is Linux just a general for a whole buch of sub-catagories OS type???

Of course one trip to the wiki can answer pretty much every question, and explain almost everything, because the wiki knows all 3nodding

Distro is short for distribution, which is like a different flavor of Linux, depending on the group that's developing and...distributing them. While they all share the same Linux kernel, there are differences between them, some more so than others. For example, there are different packages "types" across distros. Debian and its offshoots (eg, the Ubuntus) use .deb packages, whereas Redhat and its current incarnations (Mandriva/Mandrake) use .rpm.
That's just one example (the only good one I can think of at the moment) and the lines can be blurry, especially as one gets to distributions that are based on earlier ones. I guess the best way to think of it as a bunch of left shoes--they'll all fit on your left foot, but your sneaker isn't the same as a high heel or combat boot.

Thanks, it really helped!

But where i was going with this is that without your explanation of all of this, i would of had to of asked, and you would have to type two paragraphs of info about this... When you could just type it once and say " Go here," for whoever asks in the future.... so i guess i am asking for a sub-forum that says Linux for dummies, and within there, have a dictionary, explanations, videos, and ect.

A "Linux for Dummies" subforum? I see where you are going with this, so some of the things you want to add in it are your questions in your first post Quote: Such as, whats a distro? Whats the different kinds of Linux? Whats the different from free and the costing version on Linux? Is Linux just a general for a whole buch of sub-catagories OS type??? In order to make it helpful we will need a list of things that we need to add to it, more than those four questions. I'll go ahead and get a subforum started but if those are the only four questions that get put in it then I will close it and move them to a topic.

Some of your answers to these questions can be found in the History of Linux topic, its a lot of reading to do but once your done you'll be happy you read it.
