This is the official (or as official as you can get it) tier list for 2006-2007. I dont really feel like explaining how the tier list is decided or set up... so I wont xd Of course, it is always arguable. Also, keep in mind that it depends more on who's using the character, this is just used as a gauge for character potential. All of my mains, for instance, have been middle tier, and I beat people who use top tier/high tier characters often enough. Well, enough talk... here it is.
Top Tier:

High Tier:

Marth
Peach
Middle Tier:

Ice Climbers
Samus
Doctor Mario

Low Tier:

PS: For those of you who are familiar with the tier list, you may notice that they reduced the number of tiers from 6 to 5. I'm just as confused as you are.

Pretty sure it's only cause there are two of them. Well thats like saying "Marth is only high tier because he has a sword." The only reason I'm surprised that ICs made middle is because most people avoid using them, since it's hard to master them. And because of that, there aren't many IC users to judge by.

I still believe samus is underrated - when utilzed correctly, she's magnificent long and short ranged.
Her shoulder bash (while running attack) seems to always cut off my opponents - her missles distract the opponent, and a fully charged beam shot is always good for keeping returning enemies off the stage.

Her projectiles are far too easily avoided, and her slow fall speed makes her open to attacks. As an ex-Samus user, I know what she's capable of, but it's all too easily countered.

The tier list is decided by the Smash Back Room and it is a general list of how good characters are solely based on tournament placings.

Yeah.
There are fewer people who play as both Zelda AND Sheik
than there are people who play specifically as one or the other.

m2 is underated lol, and the ic's are easily mid tier, wobbles anyone? ever seen chu dat anyone? ever get ur a** handed to you by an ice climber player, and u'd understand why they are awesome...
