Truth be told 'Neira hadn't wanted to be thrown into this situation. It seemed as though her pack had come loose and here she was promising vengance. She wasn't really the type for vengance but the male had pushed her to it with his cocky attitude (or that's what she thought anyway). Now she was away from him she was wondering whether it might be wise to just dissappear from here but... she wanted to know for sure first that she hadn't been tricked.
Because of this she found herself following the trail of a strange male and another, probably a pup or young wolf. She had finally come across their scent near the river - they must have come to drink or perhaps just to get out of the forest - and had tailed it doggedly for the best part of a day. It was fresh enough that she knew if she kept on she'd be on their heels soon enough. So why was she slowing down?
As their scent became stronger she had begun to dally. She wondered, really, what she'd do if she found them. She had spent several months trying to avoid males and here she was chasing one... She paused and sat down. They couldn't be far but... what to do?

Kiros watched Pavati with a wary eye as she teetered near the water's edge. She had insisted they come and 'pay their respects' as she put it. Quite frankly, the only thing he could think of when he heard Kara was dead was, 'Good riddance.' She'd caused nothing but trouble for him, and it was perfectly alright that he now lived here. Jori had pestered him into somewhat of an alpha status. He wasn't a very good alpha, he said so himself. He couldn't fight worth beans, he was a bloody coward, and he didn't have a sense of rationality.
Jori had insisted, pressured, and bitten him into making descisions. She was convinced that he was the alpha. He wondered if he should run the fact she was ordering him all around by her. She seemed more of an alpha than he did. Maybe Sade would grow up to be the perfect little alpha boy? He certainly had a proud streak in his bone. Pavati, Pavati was just confused.
Which reminded him, he really needed to talk to Jori, maybe find this 'Neira Jori was talking about. Drop off the pups with her, and take a nice long vacation with his mate. That would be so nice. Without the red around, he didn't have to worry about much of anything anymore. Life was good.
"Half of Me!" he heard Pavati shout and she tumbled into the river. He sighed and quickly rose to his feet to see what the matter was. The current wasn't strong enough here to carry her away. This was the crossing point, far above where Kara had met her doom.
"What is it?" he groaned, his eyes searching. He chuckled when he saw just what the matter was. A small hermit crab had attached itself to her nose. He waddled over to the river edge, and gently reached his head down to pull the creature off. It protested and clacked its claws together, but it was quickly off and back in the water. "Come on, Pavati, that's enough. Let's go."
Pavati nodded and the pair left the steaming waters in search of somethin more productive. It didn't take them long to find something of interest, for there was a grey wolf not too far away, and Pavati insisted on saying hello.
Kiros trailed her carefully, not knowing what to do. He didn't like new wolves, they brought danger and strange news. Esepcially that Voodoo, with all his hanging around that he did. Kiros wasn't exactly sure what that was all about, or where he had come from and why Jori let his sorry hide stay.

'Neira, for all her pondering, had not expected the other two to turn and come in her direction. To see her, in fact, before she could retreat to a safe watching-distance. Her lips curled back in distaste as she took in the pair. One suspicion seemed to be confirmed immediately: she had thought that she could smell Jori's scent, just a little, about the pup and here was a young female who looked not unlike the blue female she had met oh so long ago. Treachery, then.
The other, the male, didn't seem to keen to meet her either - a sign of guilt to 'Neira. He didn't seem that big or powerful and she wondered how he had taken on her alhpa and survived. A growl started in 'Neira's throat which she only just bit back as the pair came closer.
A pup wasn't much of a threat, really, and she had not passed the trail of any others whilst she'd been trailing them. The three were alone, then. Getting back to her feet, eyes fixed on the brown male, she walked towards the pair with every bit of menace she could muster. Directly to the point seemed the best way.
"What have you done to my alpha?" she growled.

Kiros became anxious when he saw the snarl curl on the lips of the grey. He tucked his tail down and hurried to catch up to Pavati, worried that the wolf might be hostile and try to strike out against his daughter. Not that he could have done much, but she hoped that Pavati would have enough sense to run as he self-lessly threw himself in front of an angry wolf.
He went into a sprint as the female got closer and nearly stumbled over his own daughter as he struggled to get in front of her. Pavati clearly did not not the danger.
"Half of Me! - UGH!" she muffled out as Kiros sent her rolling behind him. Jori would never forgive him if one of her daughters died.
"I-uh. . .er," Kiros stammered, backing up a few paces from the advancing female. His eyes shifted around nervously. There had to be some way to get out of this predicament. Anything would help, anything at all.
"Thinks Like Fire is dead," Pavati spoke sharply from underneath him. She knew more about the 'alpha' than Kiros did, seeing as she had lived with the red for most of her younger life. "She fell in the river."
She was so blunt about it. Kiros grinned sheepishly.

'Thinks like fire'? she assumed the pup meant Kara. Who else? 'Neira knew Kara had fallen in the river. She didn't for a second believe that had killed her though. Despite the fact that the words had issued from the blue child at his feet, it was to Kiros who 'Neira looked for confimation of her words. "Well? Is this truly what you believe, male?" she snarled. 'Neira wouldn't have gone for the pup to get to her father - she wasn't like that. Not that she like pups much - especially now with Maia's defection she felt they weren't worth bothering with - they'd just abandon you.
Her red eyes glimmered with hate at the male's pitiful attitude. If this was what was calling himself an alpha these days... Ugh. Typical males. Probably convinced everyone Kara was dead and slunk into her position. Not a true alpha at all and certainly not her alpha.
This time she let the growl in her throat build a little. He seemed like the kind that might be easily intimidated - his fearful attitude, sheepish posture.

To tell her the truth, Kiros didn't know.
"Pavati saw her!" the blue pup snapped, coming out from under his legs to defend her father. "She was all unmoving, and her chest was caved in. Mother says the river is dangerous." That wasn't all of it. Mother was completely broken, her soul looked like it had been ripped out, and Kiros was barely able to anything about it.
"I know she's not here," was all Kiros managed to gag out, taking a few steps forwards to push Pavati back, and then retreating from that growl a bit more.
"Why don't you go find her?" he retorted, glaring a little. "All we have is the word of the pup." He'd feel a whole lot better if Neira comfirmed the death of 'their alpha'. He wasn't sure he believed Pavati with how crazy she was.
"Kara is the river," the blue wolf chimed in again, attempting to make the situation more cheerful.

The pup certainly was a right little snotty pain, wasn't she? 'Neira thought to herself. She ignored her. 'Neira was certainly of the view that pups should be seen and not heard and that they should do as they were told. As it was it looked as though the male was being led by the nose by the little female.
She pondered his words. So they really weren't sure - well the adults weren't anyway. It seemed the situation was simple here. Kara seemed to have been in an accident, the others had taken over. As much as 'Neira dislike the fact of an alpha male and the fact they hadn't confirmed their prior alpha's death she could see the sense in it. It wouldn't make her hang around though.
She thought to herself for a moment before nodding. "I might well do that." She wasn't doing as the male said, she thought, just pursuing what would have been her next course of action anyway.
The grey and black female eyed the male once again. "If you are wrong I'd not like to be in your position" she grinned somewhat malevolently.

Jori would be none to happy about losing a pack member, he so thought. He didn't want her to leave just yet. "No kidding," he answered. He dreaded the thought of being alive.
Kiros, of course, had no idea she thought he was an alpha. In fact, the only person that he believed had any notion of the idea was Jori, whom he spent his days trying to convince was not true. He was just another low-life with pups.
"Well, as long as your around, I suppose you can be in charge?" he wondered allowed. It would give Jori the comfort she needed, and he wouldn't have to get hammered by the blue every day of the week. Jori needed a new mother figure to live with, besides.
"And watch out for Voodoo," he told her, knowing that if she was once part of the pack, she was still now, whether Kara was around or not. He didn't want things to be disturbed in case he had to flee with his tail stuck in between his legs. "He's been slinking around here, and he's not to much fun. But he's a pushover, so just snap him out of your way." He wasn't sure how to explain the black wolf. It was crazy, that much was sure.

The reason 'Neira thought of him as an alpha was because it was how Anoki had described him - not because she thought he seemed competent or the type. This was shown in his words, too. "Just because my alpha has gone does not mean I presume to be in charge nor would I want to be" this was mostly true - 'Neira just wasn't the type to take charge. The second mistake was telling her there was yet another male around.
'Neira simply wouldn't stay where there were so many males. That she had talked to so many, been in their presence, so often in the past few days made her skin crawl and she could barely sleep for worry that they'd try some trick or something. Despite her outward malevolence and superiority she was, just a bit, still scared of being around males.
"I will find her" she stated. "If she is dead or if I can't, I won't be back." It was as simple as that. Too much had changed, this was not the pack she had joined and unless Kara was to rule and hopefully throw all these miscreants out she would not be staying - she'd find somewhere else to call home which wasn't so full of that one thing she hated - males.

She really could have fooled him. She seemed to boss him around as if it were nothing, throwing threats and growls about as though the end of the world were close.
"Grumpy sure acts like it!" Pavati said, with the puff of her chest, obviously having found her name for the grey. She wasn't sure what was wrong with her father, but there was obviously something according to Grumpy.
Perhaps there was something wrong with her, too.
Kiros wouldn't have thought so. "Good riddance," he told her, and turned to go. He wouldn't want the crazy woman around anyway. She'd probably snap up a pup or two if he wasn't careful. Jori probably wouldn't be happy. He must have been really good at screwing things up.
"Bye Grumpy!" Pavati shouted backwards as she bounded after her father merily. Grumpy would find Kara, talk to her spirit, and then come back, just like she had, or so the little blue wolf would like to think.
