Ok. I have 3 piccolo parts and a solo for our upcoming concert. Unfortunatley, I don't have a piccolo, and my band director doesn't either. So, as a result, I'm spending all of my spare time shopping for piccolos.

Does anybody know any good piccolos that I can purchase that would be good for a beginner piccolo player? If so, PLEASE reply.

Thanks so much!

That's kind of ridiculous that he expects you to pull one out of your butt. :/

The only advice I can give you, is go with the name brands like Gemeinhardt, Armstrong and Yamaha. All three of those offer some good beginner picollos.

•Silver ones are pretty hard to play starting out and are very shrill, I do not reccomend them for concert playing.
•Plastic ones are nice and easy to start on but if you want a soft concert sound you will usually need a non-default headjoint, but it would probably suffice without it.
•Wood piccolos are really nice for concerts but require more maintenance and could be damaged during marching season.

The main questions would be how much are you willing to spend and how you are going to use it (marching, concert, or both).

Well, see I got a professional flute a while back, and I'm thinking of selling my old flute (its a Gemeinhardt) we got it for about 850$, so i'm trying to keep it within range of that price.

I'm probably going to use it concert more than marching...

Er... why don't you just borrow from someone? I'm sure SOMEONE in your area would have one.

I was thinking about that, but I'm going to be needing to borrow the piccolo for the rest of the year, and I'm sure they'll need it back at some point...

Meh. I'd let you borrow mines till the end of the year, I have two.

Maybe there's other band teachers and schools who might have one. We borrow s**t from eachother all the time >________>;

I would borrow from my school, cept the piccolos they have are in crappy conditions. You can drop it on the ground and something will be fixed.

If you don't have a lot of money and are using it for concert....Well, you could buy a sort of crappy one new ( sad ) or you could get a well-made wooden one used.

Why dont you buy one thats used? That way you dont have to spend so much on it. I don't see why he's making YOU buy one. The school should have to pay for it and let you borrow it for the year.

I suggest the Jupiter brand.
I play that type and I am in th same predicament as you are.
Except I have Four songs and one Solo.

Jupiter brands are made out of Platinum and Clarinet Material.
Only $700 which I think is good.
Piccolo's I saw before were around $900-$1000.

I had an Artley rebuilt. It's pretty good... thought it has a flat tendancy. I wouldn't recommend them though.

I got a new gemeinhardt piccolo that has a silver plated and plastic head joint for $500.....it ended up being a little more expensive because of tax, but over all a good price. Definitely get a plastic one unless you plan on buying a wooden piccolo which would probably be a little out of your price range....it was out of mine. You may want to get a used piccolo because there are many used ones in very good condition, but they will be much cheaper. So if you do get a used one, then make sure it isn't over 2 years old.

I have a jupiter. it's silver plated. I has a really nice sound to it. it was only about $500. I wasn't able to get a wooden one cause it would of costed more money. It's not that hard to play either. It has a lip plate to it.

this is what it looks like
