edit; thanks to all the people replying/contributing so far! heart heart But I am going to condesnse this as much as possible while still pretty much quoting you, if you add tips. I figure everyone won't want to read every word of this, so.

deux; and just so everyone knows, when I refer to "the pit" i usually mean the full-out mosh pit, and not the floor in general. This terminology is often confused and I'm just too lazy to change my vocab, and probably this will happen in the future. Just to let you know so we don't get confused. 3nodding

trois; meh. after going through and trying to organise all these... if anyone else keeps adding things, I'm probably just going to copy and paste them onto the end. I'm kind of in an Idon'treallygiveashit, suckitup kind of mood. I might fix it later, but it depends on how long this lasts. Sorry about that and any snapping or weird s**t I may do or say in advance.

      KAAYGAIZ.
There was a board about this on TIP that I actually first discovered ages ago, but, after replying to Kelsey's[keropoine <3 my buddyyy] thread about uniforms and what you're wearing to shows and stuff, and I guess seeing this in general in the guild[? not for sure, my brain says I'm seeing it but I can't be positive about that xD] I thought this would just be kind of a cool idea.

      CONCERT ETIQUETTE 0:
please reply, and then we can have this fancy little masterlist up here, and all you going for the first time or wanting to just make sure or that are bored or WHATEVER, you can refer to this 3nodding I just thought it would be neat, so, don't attack me D:

These are some ideas I have so far. Tell me what you think plx <3

    +DO'S/-DON'TS
    - CAREFUL WITH YOUR SHIRTS. not to start off negatively, but, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE DON'T wear a shirt that has anything to do with the band you're going to see UNLESS YOU MADE IT YOURSELF. Creativity is a very good thing; however, wearing the band's shirt just makes you look like a fanboygirlkidthing. Even if you buy their shirt there or w/e, save it for later.

-AND TIMING! you want to get to the show as early as humanely possible and claim your spot in line. once the people start piling up, DON'T TAKE THEIR s**t; hold your ground and fight them off, be viscious mad like that. You want to get in, get your merch, and get a good spot asap.

[ the above behavior applies for the whole show. :3 ]

    - IN ADDITION, FLAIL, KICK, SCREAM, HIT, W/E. Take out your agressions on people around you by getting into it. It's definately more respectful to the band to have a good time, and plus, wether everyone knows it or not [even YOU, CHILDREN surprised ] you its what everyone went there to do. IT'S FUN. If you hit someone and they can't take it, they're pussies and shouldn't be there.
HAIRY PEOPLE[lawl sorry xD]&if you have long hair, don't be afraid to whip it at people/in their face. People generally hate sweaty, sticky hair in their face, especially when it's not their own, but it's deliciously obnoxious and part of showing people that you aren't taking their s**t; this is YOUR spot.

-NO DEATHING; BE HONEST.. If you get overwhelmed, though, the crowd gets too rough or you are going to die of thirst, GET THE ******** OUT. Don't die D:

    - FANGIRLISM? BIG NO NO; don't go a show just because you think you like the band an dyou have the opporitunity, and if you must, AT LEAST learn MORE than just their singles. You look retarded when all you're doing the rest of the time is screaming "OMG GERARNRD MARRY MEEE"
also; "It's obvious: Don't wear anything to show-y. There's probably gonna be more than one drunk guy. No matter what you think, dressing like a slut will not make Bob/Mikey/Gerard/Ray/Frank fall in love with you."

    - MOSHING. Don't go in the pit if you don't know what you're doing, or if you have a small frame stare this should be common sense, but honestly, you'd be surprised. Actually, as a general rule, just don't mosh unless you're HUGE and muscly and terrifying. [actually that's just my opinion, but it could possibly save your life ;3 you never know]

-APPRICIATE YOUR FEET. As nice as it is to LOOK kickass, don't wear shoes that are going to kill your feet or that you are going to fall off of and break your various body parts; don't wear heavy clothes, as cold as it is[KEEP WARM THINGS IN THE CAR]. If you wear white, you will get s**t on you. Be practical; it's hot and sweaty in there.

-A SIMPLE PRECAUTION. Don't wear pieces of clothing / other various things tied around your waist; chances are they will either fall off or be yanked off and you won't notice, and then you'll be bummed.

-CROWDSURFING Also, beware of crowd surfers. Don't get mad if they hit you, that's the point. If YOU go crowd surfing, you WILL get groped. That's also basically pretty much a given. But don't be whiny about it because you had to see it coming.

-EATING BEFORE YOU GO You will probably want to eat before you go to the show, but not RIGHT before, because a full stomach there could be bad; but you don't want to starve. Also, if you have a bag it might be a good idea to have your water with you, but don't drink something that'll make you pee yourself or lose your spot.

ETC Feel free to dress to look good, but not to impress. You're going to look just like everyone else at the end of the show (hot, sweaty, dirty, messy hair) that all the time you take trying to look good will be down the drain. Go ahead with makeup, but remember that it will most likely get smeared and ruined by the end of the night.
DO NOT!! Wear skirts or dresses!! You can still find nice black pants to wear instead of a light skirt. If you're in the crowd, it WILL ride up and you won't be able to get it down.

-TIMING, CONT. Know where you want to be in the crowd and arrive accordingly. If you want to be against the barrier? Come early. If you want to be in the mosh? Come a few hours before the show. If you really don't care? Wait until the last hour or so. There are people there who prefer to be against the barrier (*waves*) and want a spot at the front of the line in order to do so. Don't come to be first in line and hang out in the far back.
& TIMING W/MERCH For me, when the doors open I scan at the merch, to see what's there, but head straight for the stage. I'll buy merch after the show. Yes, what you want could possibly be sold out by the end of the show, but would you really want that or buying something ahead of time, then loosing it in the crowd? I've always waited and still managed to get what I want.

-CAMERAS Bring a camera if you so desire, but it's always a better experience to see the show live, with your own eyes, then through a camera screen. If you do bring a camera? Make sure you hold onto it at all time and don't put it in your pocket. You will either a) lose it or b) get it crushed against you and have a lovely bruise on your hip from where it was. (trust me. Taste of Chaos was not fun)
addition by me -- this pretty much goes for anything you might have on your person. Just be super careful about it -- I know it's hard to focus on that kind of thing when you want to be paying total attention to the show, but you'll regret it later if you don't.

-SAVE!SAVE!SAVE! Save as much money as you can and pack more then $50. Concert shirts can range from $10-35/40 depending on the band you're seeing. Little no-namers that open usually have their things from $10-20, bigger names will sell theirs from $20-40. There WILL be more then one thing you like there! And concert shirts are special. Usually you will not be able to find said shirts anywhere else but at concerts, so save your money and splurge then. (I blew over $200 on merch recently. I reccomend bringing at least $100 per show)

~ If youre on the floor DO NOT wear shoes you mind getting trampled on. No baggy pants either- they will be stept on, they will mop up all liquids on the ground.

~ Crowd Surfing!! People will take your walet, your cellphone, your keys- EVERYTHING. Give your things to a friend before surfing. After youre over the barrier a guard will escort you to the side where you will re-enter the concert from the middle

~ The Pit. I am the 5'2 moshpit queen. That is because I know how to defend myself. And I love them. If you EVER see a pit opening near you, that you dont want to be a part of- get away as fast as possible. You can also stay on the edge, make a cross with your arms and push others off you. Here is my trick. Use the pit to GET AHEAD. When the pit is calm you can run across to get closer to the stage. It takes balls, but its easier than it seems.

~You will miss the best spots if you stop for merch, and you can always buy it after the show.

~Talk to the roadies after the show and they will give you the bands setlist, guitar picks, trash...whatever you want.

~Want to meet the band? Get by the tour bus or bond with merch sellers and roadies. It might be a long wait, but its your choice. If the concert has a lot of bands playing then there will be signings and some bands will watch the rest of the concert from the crowd ( I danced with half of the members of Chiodos while another band played).

Don't wrap pieces of clothing around your waist, chances are, depending on how close you are with the people in the crowd, you might loose it without even realising 'til you get out of there.

I speak from my own experience and many others I know emo

And don't get to upset by crowd-surfers kicking you/rolling on top of you, its not their fault.

@fuel: Very accurate gig tips, might I add!

... I have to disagree with the whole "DON'T wear a shirt that has anything to do with the band you're going to see" That's what I always wear to concerts, a band T. What would you have me wear? If I see someone with the Band T I think they actually like the band and are willing to spend money on merchandise. When I see someone without a band T and not in anything related to the band (for MCR like a black parade uniform), I think they aren't as into the band as someone with a band t is.

But...I always wear the band I'm seeing's shirt.
Even though I did make an 'I Don't Love You' shirt.
But I bought a Black Parade uniform jacket, so I AM wearing that.
Plus I have seat tickets, not pit.

What I mean by the shirt thing is if you are going to see MCR and you're wearing an MCR shirt that you bought, it's redundant. Maybe to you it looks like they care, but the point is no matter what you're wearing, you're there anyway. To a ot of people, if you're wearing the shirt of the band that's playing, and it's NOT merch from that show, it just makes you look like a fangirl/boy and it looks stupid. there are definate exceptions, but, for the most part, it does.

I'm just saying, a lot of people make their own clothes to wear and that looks way better. If you ask me, THAT'S what makes it look like you care about the band. If you just have one of their shirts... well, like I said, it's redundant. It makes you look like you're trying too hard.

Ok, I'm sorry, I'm not a frequent concert goer so I'm not exactly in the know on this type of thing, but you'd think making your own t-shirt would be more 'trying too hard' than wearing one you bought, wouldn't it? question

I mean, I sort of know what you mean, but that still seems a little off to me.

I mean, I sort of know what you mean, but that still seems a little off to me.

Making your own shirts shows your dedication, shows your creativity. It shows you actually took the time to create something for yourself that no one else has, and you can show off your masterpiece.

I have never once wore bought merchandise to a 30 Seconds to Mars concert. All 5 times I've seen them, I have always made my own shirts, and only once did I wear the same shirt for two concerts. Then if you wait for the band by the busses, they'll get to see your shirt personally, and that's always a nice, geeky, acomplishment feeling if they say something bout it. (I've gotten my shrts photographed by Shannon of 30STM a couple of times)

Plus it's just fun making your own things and getting your ego boosted from compliments of those around you saying they like what you've done! biggrin

Anyway! My concert tips:
-Feel free to dress to look good, but not to impress. that's all i can think of for now.. I'll probably just edit this post with more tips then repetitive posting?

I agree entirely -- I was going to say the same. :3

Making your own piece of clothing dedicated to/based on the band is a totally rad thing to do. It's like a piece of artwork. The shirts you can buy are mass-produced and anyone can have them; yours would be the only one in the whole world. And a lot of people who wear a band's shirt don't even really care about them. Its an easy thing to just buy a shirt; it takes effort and imagination to make a piece of art you can personally wear proudly and say "This is MINE; it isart; and this band inspired it."

s**t.. I had something else to say. P: Stupid alkaline trio being so awesome and distracting. Oh well.
oh, I remember now.

My friend made this kickass shirt when we went to our concert; I don't remember exactly what it was, but, if I remember correctly~
it was black with red sleeves, and red down the sides. She cut up black fishnet and sewed it over the red on the sides. One of the sleeves or the sides said "REVENGE" and she stitched a patchy-looking heart onto the chest over where your heart is, and it had a lock sewn onto it. It may have said MCR or something in it, and I'm pretty sure there were ribbons on it somewhere, but it's been hanging on her wall unwashed ever since so I haven't seen it in awhile.

I did something slightly out of the ordinary and made a pair of pants. They were really simple -- they say MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE in their old logo font down the right leg, and at the bottom of that leg I have a design like one of the trees from the Links page of their old website[isnt that dorky? XP it looks cool, though]. Down the seam of the right leg it used to say "The story of a man, a woman, and the corpses of a thousand evil men..." because the show I went to was one of the few last ones on the Revenge tour and I love Revenge dearly <3 and on the left leg, I stitched black embroidery floss in this bitty corset-type design.
but, I ended up washing them, and if I plan on wearing them to this show I need to re-trace them with sharpie. I was going to make a shirt but I don't have a good one to use D: If I do, I'll be sewing on stripes of pop can tabs(I have hundreds and didn't know what else to do with them xD RECYCLE, YOU SLUTS) so I'll be shiny xD and doing a fake corset thing either down the front right side of the shirt or all the back. The shoulder will have a bat on it and I'm not sure what to do with the rest.

IF ANYONE CARED. XD

And also, thanks for all your fabulous tips. Those are totally essential things and I completely forgot about them <333

Sadly, if you ever want to be up close to the front, you'll probably have to be there by like... 4. Some people stand in line like, from early morning x_x which I can understand but think is a bit much.

But, if you're tiny enough and you're sneaky enough, or if you're with other tiny people(or better yet, larger people) it's not that hard to push through the crowd. Just scream "COMING THROUGH, SCUSE ME" and push everyone. They'll glare but probably won't do anything. [or you could just scream very loudly and bowl through everyone. I've always wanted to do that, but my dad's too polite to do it with me and wouldn't let me out of his sight :C]

It helps if you have a drink. Then they don't want to be spilled upon. :3

edit to all the other tiny people, I, too, am very small in build. However, just 'cause your tiny I don't mean to be squashing your hopes -- just be careful. If you just flail and scream as loudly/violently as you can, people will probably try to stay away from you. That's what I do and it works just fine.
