i had written a semi-coherent rambling on this topic before my internet explorer decided to throw up on me. Let's see if I can re-create it:
I was looking through some of my other guilds to see what the "hot topics" were over there. When I realized, everyone seemed to be so down on others who they thought to not have enough "cred" or wasn't "____ enough". Personally, I think it is absolutely silly that some people think of themselves as different or "counter-culture" and yet they stereotype themselves and others around them. The whole point of being different is....well, you know being different. And I'm glad that everyone here at this guild seems to respect that and embrace it. Not once have I seen anyone really bashing anyone else for not being "indie enough".
So, thank you for being different and for everyone being exactly who they are. Life is not a show.

I don't the people would bash for not being indie enough, music is music, and what you like you cant change. On the other hand, it really irks me when people call a legitimit Indie band a sell out, especialy when the band hasnt, sheesh they need to eat too. I guess you could say im anti-scenekid but my whole story on that is unnessicary. YAY for Independant Bands!

Psssh, I agree. I hate it when people say "you're not a scene kid, you don't wear this/listen to this/go to this hangout" etc, especially because I never defined myself as one. I find it silly when people base their whole personality type around the kind of music they're into, especially when it turns into a mini-cult of grade nines who happen to wear similar accessories as yourself. I've gotten SO many glares from all the girls in Panic! at the Disco shirts and polka dot bows, haha.
But, yeah, you're right. Being different or indie or whatever you want to call it is just about being yourself. Period.

I don't mind what people listen to and like -- but don't try and pretend you're someone or something you're not. If you like "alternative rock", embrace it! Bad 80s pop (you know I have Wham! on hard copy), dance like hell!
Scene cred's ridiculous, but not as ridiculous and utterly aggravating as pretentiousness (If your favorite band's been picked up by a major, you like popular music! No shame in that)
