I call it: "3-by-5-inch Inspiration" What you do is get ten index cards and make two piles, each with five cards. On one pile, you put the names of the characters you want to write about. Then, on the other pile, write down some situations; they can be as action-packed as scaling a rock face, as trivial as falling into a water fountain with a member of the opposite sex, or as mundane as getting a new book.
Have no index cards on hand? Go to this website and fill in the character names under "Boys/Girls" and the situation under "Job" and type in your favorite number.
Here's what I got when I tried it on the site (DO NOT STEAL!!!):1) Naruto becomes a cutter (I am so sorry) sweatdrop 2) Gaara secretly develops claustrophobia twisted 3) Sakura loses something of importance that belongs to her love interest (Sasuke) eek 4) Ino breaks her nail attempting a jutsu rofl rofl rofl

I opt for merely carrying a pen and note-book at all times, aspiring to post-pone your story until inspired. a notebook by your bedstead also helps relieve midnight ideas.

Rplaying with your friends is the best. You can also listen to a song that matches the atmosphere or actions you're writing about or even watch a movie. Good luck!

perhaps also scrutinizing the work of others, and then assimilating those aspects of which you feel disposed to.

I like Allora Langs idea because Roleplaying can have a writers block too. I think that a good way to get rid of it is to take notes on your characters, find inspiration through music or drawings or trying to write anyway. Writers block can come in two forms which I know of. Either you don't know what the characters will do next, or the sentance you ended up with just doesn't want to carry on. Basically, if it's the second, you don't cure it, you're screwed... (escuse my french :])

Hmm. I wonder, do the french say; "Pardon my English?"
Besides, I would not be cognizant of anything pertaining to "role-playing", as I have never attempted it myself. Art is a congenial idea, as it can give you a chance to begin concepting what your characters will look like.

Not just that, if you are doing a portrait, then that will either make you want to start a story, or just plain give you inspiration ^_^. Some more than others though. Depends on their creativity. sad Roleplaying is story writing with others in a wierd way, a bit like acting and story writing put together. It could get you inspiration, but thats a rare thing because of the story writing part. :3

Perhaps another way is to ascertain how your characters would react to a given situation, and in doing so make your characters 'alive'.

I just need to find out how to put that in writing without making it too boring or too dramatised for something pointless. whee

I often elevate the prospect of writing fan-fiction for different stories so I can descry new situations with ease.

I am unable to think of any new ways to "beat the block", as I'm petrified, since I've outlined all the conspicuous methods, in my current au courant they would be puissant.
