A brief explaination: A friend of mine recently got into trouble with her father, who subsequently told her to throw out all of her anime stuff. In order to save her collection (which costs hundreds of dollars in addition to sentamental value), she packed every manga, anime DVD, and piece of anime merchandise she owned into three rather large and heavy cardboard boxes which I now keep in my room. I know for a fact that short of a Fullmetal Alchemist wall callendar, her keychain, and a few DVDs that she borrowed from a friend (and was not allowed to loan out), there is not a trace of her fandom anywhere in her house. The walls of her room are bare now because her fandom was the theme by which she decorated. I decided to go through one of the boxes, just for curiosity's sake. I have her permission to do so, but I get this weird feeling as I skim. I pose a question to you, my fellow Otaku: If someone in charge of you forced you to give up everything material of your fandom (and you had to do it), how would you react? How would it make you feel? Whom would you entrust your collection to?

hmm....well, I'd be pretty upset. Especially since I'm 21 and contribute to the living expenses. My anime, manga, cosplay, and j-rock stuff is basically all I have. If I had to get rid of it all, I'd basically have pics of my 3 dogs that have all passed away, some books....maybe less than a dozen....my room would be pretty empty.
How would I react? well...after a considerable amount of crying and ranting and raving, I'd probably figure out some way to gradually get my stuff back to the way it was.
Who would I entrust with my precious items? hmm....well, I don't really have that many friends, my best friend has a tendency to lose things....but Im sure she wouldnt lose a huge box of stuff. Maybe Brian, if I was absolutly sure he wouldnt put my stuff on ebay....
P.S. I had to edit your post cause originally it said "who subsequently told her to through out" instead of throw out, which confused me the first time reading through it.

mad how horrible!! was it that her dad hated the fact she liked anime?
when i was around freshman grade in high school ( now i am a senior) my dad got mad at me to one point to where he wanted ALL of my anime ( which consisted of anime then) in the trash can in the backyard. would you like to know the reason why? well, i had come home from school wearing my sango outfit i had bought from a friend of mine, and our carpooler, which wasa "former" good friend of ours, gave me a dirty look and asked why i was dressed like that.. i explained to her what anime was, and that i was cosplaying, and it was really cool and all that. well, she dropped me off at home and she left, i was hanging in my room, listening to my music and what not... phone rings...blablabla.. then my dad comes in my room and starts yelling at me about my anime.. and i was all like, "da hell? random much?" and he explained to me that our friend, ( carpooler lady) had called and starting giving really negative comments about the fact that i had worn that to school that it wasnt normal, blablabla.. and he told me to throw it away, RIGHT NOW in the garbage can... i was all like, O_O FRACK NO!! and yet, the screaming continued.. i cried and all that... i told him it wasnt fair , so who cares what she said...blabla.. he said he didnt like the jap crap in the first place, and all this stuff...i gave Him this whole lecture of me likeing whatever the hell i wanted and whatever..and he got mad and said , " fine , keep your stuff..."
there have been alot of horrible things like that with my dad and all.. but he has started to simmer down about it... so now he is all like, "really? interesting.." or "thats cool.." he actually recently said that my obsession with anime has grown on him.... my nickname with him is < "jappy" O_o
my little sister still makes fun of me though.. she calls my music, "hong ching chong", or jap crap, jap rap... all the goods..XD but i ignore her..my aunt however..OMG.. shes a biyatch about it everytime we go to visit her, " so, you still in you little chinese stuff?" she tells me. she thinks me liking anime is sickening, that" you are not japanese, your portuguese, so act it.." i just tell her i would rather be japanese, since being portugese is so boring.. the only thing i like is the food... she got MAD.. heh heh.. she started screaming at me in portuguese..
the moral of this story is.. only my dad really doesnt mind my obsession with anime now, my mom doesnt either..somtimes she asks " whats that? " and so on... but yeah..mainly its my little sister.. stare she is a turd...
biggrin thats all.. but basically, if i was MADE to get rid of my anime.. i would seriouusly die..i would probably trust my best friend jen or maybe my sempai with it...life would not go on for me pretty much...
but thank god for being 18...seriously...i can go to cons and stuff now whenever... : Dmy dad actually offered to pay for my AX last year, but i had to go on a cruise..yeah.. my dads cool now

heh, the reactions you got from your family amused me. My parents kept saying that I was wasting my money on manga and what not, now they don't really care. As long as I come home in one piece and I'm not doing anything illegal they're fine. They're rather supportive about my hobby. I'm pretty sure they realized that my interest in anime and Japanese pop culture wasn't going away any time soon xd

How would i react: i would say no and tell her im not taking it out of my room because anime is my obsession and my anit-drug (literally) How would i feel: i wouldnt care how id feel because my anime would stay where it is. who would i entrust my things to: my friend daniel (GaiaID: DunneyB) because i can trust that he wouldnt take any of my stuff outside his house and he wouldnt let anyone touch any of it. i would say my friend Ivan (GaiaID: OverlordTakun) too but he would probly take my stuff out the boxes and act like its all his... and thats what i ment by "i say no, i wouldnt care, and dunneyb" sorry if you all didnt understand.
