Chapter 1
Darkness. Consuming darkness. Jack was cold. Pounding. His head hurt. The spider was biting him. He had to get away. He had to run. But he was alone, in the dark, freezing cold. His whole body itched and stung.
Jack woke up with a scream. He had been having that same dream all week. He was tall and lean, with bushy brown hair, and brown eyes. He checked the clock. 7:04, just enough time to get breakfast, make lunch, and get to school. He put on his uniform.

Shi waited at the park for Jack, just like every day. He was sitting on a swing, by himself. He was small for his age, looking more like an elementary schooler then a highschool student. His long golden brown hair fell over his face, tucked casualy behind one of his human ears. Shi was half cat.
Shi saw Jack coming and ran up to him smiling. "Hey, Jack. How are you?" He asked.
"hey, dude. I had the nightmare again." Jack replied. "What about you? You doin' ok?"
"My mom had another date last night. She didn't come home until after i went to bed. I'm buying lunch again. We trading today?"
"Yup. Made your favorite. Peanut butter and cream cheese."
"Realy?" shi's face lit up. "Thanks Jack!" They walked to school together, chatting about shi's mom's new boyfriend.

As the bell rang, Jack just made it to his seat. He slumped down and sighed relief. No sooner, the teacher, Mr. Rehney, walked in, fllowed by a skinny, silver-haired half-fox boy. "Settle down, class! we have a new student, Kuyasuke Mikorou. He has advanced from the 11th grade last semster. Go take a seat, Mr. Mikorou."
"yes, sir." replied kuyasuke, and he took a seat two rows to the right of Jack. They watched eachother for the rest of the class. Afterwards, Kuyasuke walked upto Jack. "I couldn't help but notice that you were watching me." he said.
"I watch people." Jack replied. He knew he was considered a creap. He never realy cared to hide it.
"I see. Well, you know my name, how about you give me yours?"
"Jack. You got a nickname?"
"Yes. Call me Kuya." He smiled, and his purple eyes held a curious stare. Jack felt this guy was up to something.
"What about you,Kuya? Seemed to me, you were watching me as well."
"It seems I have that habbit also. My apologies. Well, I'd better be going. I have a meeting at the drama club." He turned. and walked down the hall, letting his silver braid whip behind him. Jack watched him go, then headed for his karate practice.

During lunch, Jack and Shi sat at the same table. Shi pushed his tray to Jack, and took the bowl of chili, and one of the butterscotch puddings. Jack tossed him teh sandwich, all wrapped up. Shi unwrapped it and happily took a bite, wagging his tail. Jack ate his pineapple first, saving teh pudding for last.
Across the room, Drake Torinzini suddenly yelled "Food fight!" and threw his mashed potatoes at the wall. Drak was tall and bony, with close-cut red hair, and eyeliner. He was held back a year, and was taking his senior year again.
In no time, the whole cafeteria was a slimy, sticky battleground, with all kinds of foodstuffs falling like bombs. In the heat of the moment, as a small, fragile-looking girl, with terror showing clearly in her wet, tearing eyes, was desperately trying to get outside, a ball of spaghetti, thrown by an anonymous arm, flew right at her face.
Everyone's eyes were on the frightned girl, and s sudden silence covered the room.
