what did you find most difficult to give up when you first became a vegetarian/vegan? how did you get over it ... or are you still having problems? (REMEMBER: nobody's perfect!)

I found it hard giving up Chicken redface - but I'm doing OK now thanks to alternatives (soya, tofu and quorn)

I thought I'd have trouble giving up the typical one: Bacon. I just put my foot down and completely cut it out, the smell of it now makes me feel a bit queasy (psychological? More than likely).

I found some nice alternatives to put between bread though so it's all worked out in the end.

Ehh, I miss these really great beef empanadas my favorite restaurant made.
But since I stopped I really haven't had any cravings for meat or doubts about going vegetarian.
My dad made some bratwurst that smelled really good one night; but animals > meat.

Really don't have anything. But I suppose if I were to go Vegan I would drive myself mad not being able to eat cheese.....

Well, for the first few weeks it can be quite difficult... especially since I loved port cheese and milk chocolate so much. However, within a few weeks I felt a lot healthier than I ever did as a lacto-ovo veggie, so that made it easier to give those things up!

Back when I went vegetarian though things were much more difficult... I used to love chicken nuggetts as well as seafood, so those things were hard to give up... I actually was a pescetarian for a while before going veg, because I loved fish so much!

besides dark chocolate - i find that too bitter

The hardest things for me to give up were pigs-in-a-blanket and teriyaki chicken wings. My mom actually made those wings about a month ago and kept asking me to have one since they were my favorite. I realized I only wanted the sweet teriyaki flavor, not the chicken wings, so I solved that problem. As for the pigs-in-a-blanket, I found these spinach puffs that use the same dough. I tend to crave the seasoning of things, not the actual meat. It makes everything a lot easier. biggrin

Sorry, I don't know of any vegan choclate besides dark chocolate. I love the stuff, so it's no big deal to me. sad

There' some really good choclate called Endagered Species Chocolate TM. Part of their profit goes to saving endangered species. You can check them out at www.chocolatebar.com . I LOVE the Dark Chocolate with Espresso Beans bar, also known as the Tiger Bar. Rawr! domokun domokun

There are some really good vegan chocolates now, and some of them are so sweet and creamy that they taste almost like regular chocolate!

I would suggust trying chocolate from Newmans Own, as it tastes very sweet.

This brand also has some excellent dark chocolates! The texture, flavour, and sweetness are superb!
