I'm sure many of you have had a trouble breaking the habit of name mispronunciations (unless it was just me).
So I was curious to know...
-What Japanese/JE names did you pronounce wrong all the time before you knew better?
-What names do you STILL mispronounce?
-Do you even know how the names should be pronounced?

As for my personal story.
I took the longest time trying to correct how I said "Junno". I guess I was in the habit of reading things English-style, and said "Juhn-oh" a lot. X3
Also, the "sh" sound of "shi" in Nishikido and Yamashita, etc. confused me a lot.
I still mispronounce things now. I still call "Jin" "Gin" like the tonic, and "Shoon" "Shun". And MatsuJun, the Jun gets lost to bad habit, as does the Shun in Oguri Shun. I say a lot of things wrong. 8D; I swear I know better, I know I do, I'm just too lazy to try and actively change how I've been saying things. XP

Most of us probably mispronounce names a lot.
As for me I used to pronounce "Ryo" as "Ryu" for a while because I never actually looked at it. I do pronounce "Jin" as "Gin" that's the only way I say it. I still can't pronounce "Yamashita". I do pronounce "Jun" right but I beleive I pronounce "Shun" as Shoon". I couldn't pronunec Ueda for the longest time and I still can't pronounce Yu from K8 name.
I guess after watching a lot of shows they star in I tend to pick up the correct pronouncation but it's a habit to call them by what I started with.

I never got how to pronounce 'Shoon'. XD I say it like it reads, 'Shoon'. I still can't pronounce 'Jin' as 'Jean' and since my nickname is 'Gin' I have this ick for pronouncing anything related like that.
Otherwise, there was no actual problem. 8D;;

Shoon, I've been starting to correct myself to make it sound more like "Shohn", but I think his name will permanently be like how it looks. x3
I've never had problems with Yoko...it's just Yoh-koh-yah-mah Yooo to me.

I've never had problems with Yoko...it's just Yoh-koh-yah-mah Yooo to me. So I do pronounce Jin's name right. Good. Shun will always be pronounce as Shoon to me. Always. Trying sayin that name fast off the top of you head. I don't even remeber it. He's always Yu. PPPAAANNNNNNNNNN

I usually call him Yoko. x3 YOKOYAMA YU! It just rolls off the tongue. It's not one of the harder ones to remember for me.
PAAAAAAAAANNN! I love Maru! Maruyama Ryuhei...hmm I don't think I've had problems with his name either.

I never had a problem with Maru's either. XD maybe Hina's because that all I know him by. I couldn't pronounce Aiba at first.

Meh, I've never really had any big problem with pronounciation. XD; I guess this is because I already knew a bit of Japanese and how to pronounce vowels and such before I got into JE. Jin has always been, "jean", Shoon has always been, "shone", and Yamashita has always been, "Yamashta."
So Pin rhymes with "clean", no? :3
I think I'm only having a little trouble with Ryo's name. Even though I know the actual pronounciation of his name, I find it a little hard to say it with the Japanese R. My stupid tongue. XD;
And for Gin-chan's name...I've always said it like, "geen" or "gihn." O: Hehe. Your name is hard. XD;;;

Since I took Japanese before I got into JE, I never had problems.
The only real one I have is with Shoon. I know, it should be 'shone', but I still say 'shun' in my head. >.< I fail.
But everything else I'm good with. xD

The one name that truly fails me is Jin *hides*... I'm SORRY but "Gin" most always come into my head when I see that. I FAIL AT KAT-TUN FANGIRLING~! gonk *flails*.... Well, really, I think that is the most commonly mispronounced, ne? I think it simply is natural for Americans to see it that way unless you're like Pixi who studyed Japanese before knowing their names.

I never had any difficulties in saying their names because well, my mother country speaks like Japanese.. you know, syllable by syllable. ^____^
Now that I know that "Shoon" is pronounced as "Shone" then I think, I'm all good.

The most difficulty for me comes with "Shoon"...I am forever cursed to say it just like how it looks...SHUN. XD I can see where it "Shone" came from, though...in katakana, it's probably like "Shone", with the other character to make the long 'o' sound...:3
Other than that, there hasn't been much hardship...though I tend to slip and say "Ginh" instead of "Geen" and "Jinh" instead of "Jeen" since I'm so used to only saying these things online...xD;

hmmm...i probably mispronounced and still mispronounce many names but i remember i used to call Ryo like "REE-oh" and put the accent on the EE sound when it's supposed to be "Ry-OH"...at least that's how i hear them pronounce it...>_> and i'm sure i don't know how half of the names are supposed to be pronounced...

One of the things that helps, with stuff like Pin and Jin, is that there is no short 'i' sound in Japanese. It's pronounced 'ee'. 3nodding
A=ah
I=ee
U=ooh
E=eh
O=oh
There are some exceptions, like in Pi's last name. Yamashita, though SOMETIMES people pronounce it YamaSHIta, like it's spelled, is generally pronounced Yamashta. I had trouble with that in the beginning, like with the name Junnosuke. I would always want to say that second 'u', but eventually I learned and now it's natural to say 'Junnoske'.
...So yeah.
