Which character makes you grit your teeth? Why?

Because polls only allow so many options, don't feel limited to the poll!

It's a tie between Akio, Saionji, and Touga... but eventually I chose Akio. Generally, stereotypical bishonen get on my nerves. But these three guys seem so boring to me somehow. Out of the three, I guess I like Saionji best, because he's such a weird guy... sometimes he's like "ANTHY IS MINE!! DIEEEE" and other times he's getting all sentimental and crying in Wakaba's room. sweatdrop

Akio and Touga on the other hand, they only have one emotion: cool Mr. know-it-all. Touga only got interesting to me at the very end when he rebelled against Akio. But generally, I just find them to be really static and boring. And not pretty. (where are teh boobies!?) xd

Okay, someone is probably going to want to hit me, but, I don't have a least favorite character o_o Even as cruel or mean as any of the characters can be, I look at their reasoning, and it's just like, wow. The closest would be Akio I guess. On the Touga/Saionji subject, Touga really has more emotions than that, but the Mr. Cool one is just a mask that he likes to hide behind because he doesn't know any better. I find him really deep in actuality, but I think it makes more sense after you know about his past with his father = / Either way, it's all an act, and if you play him there are so many facets of his personality you can explore. I like that about him honestly, it's not like Utena, because a lot of her emotions are right there and you know what she's really thinking.

But characters that only seem one way, like Touga, Mitsuru, Anthy, Keiko, Wakaba, even Shiori, they're perfect to play and explore underneath. Mitsuru seems to be naive to how Nanami uses him but at the end of the series you find out he's the only one that REALLY knows the real Nanami. Touga seems like a playboy through the entire series, actually is one for most of it, but through his dealings with Utena, you find out he's really got a heart. Anthy seems emotionless, like she really doesn't care what's happening to her, all through the series, but yet again, you find out at the end it's not really what she feels inside, she's in so much pain emotinally. Keiko also seems like she's Nanami's most perfect lackey, but when she goes to Mikage you find out her true feelings as well. And Shiori, well, we all know about her >.>

Okay, enough on why I think Touga is interesting >,>

Let's look at Saionji for a moment. I agree with Yamino that he's interesting because he's just plain weird. He has severe mood swings, he should have been a girl with that gorgeous hair though >.> *coughs* Anyways, Saionji acts very creul generally, even though he claims he loves Anthy. But, when he moves in with Wakaba for a time, you actually see another side of him. The golden leaf he gave to Anthy was actually meant for Wakaba, to repay her kindness, except that Mikage used his influence to reinstate him before he gave it to her, turning him back to someone cruel. The funny thing is, his ultimate goal really isn't to take Anthy, but to be better than Touga. Okay, now here comes my personal take on everything, Saionji is actually jealous of Utena, and has always been jealous of Utena because, in his eyes, she took his place in Touga's heart when they found her. She became more important. I know to a best friend, that can really hurt, to be shoved off to the side. I don't know if Saionji feels more for Touga than that, it's hard to determine, but I think he just might.

And last, Akio....I have no good things to say about his actions, adieu *bows and exits*

Ok, Touga's not completely boring. I still don't like him that much though. As I said, he only seemed to redeem himself at the very end of the series, when he genuinely tried to help Utena realize that she's nothing but a pawn in Akio's game.

That is true I suppose. See, the first time I saw all teh characters was in the movie, so I sort of have certain biased opinions, I mean I've seen the other series, but to me Touga is Utena's prince, and who he is in the movie is just something I think about alongside the series one and it's hard for me to think of him as boring or dislike him. The same with Anthy, I have trouble grasping her 'mindless doll' persona because she's more free in the movie, though Saionji is psycho in that so it makes you wonder why I like him so much *shrugs*

If it wasn't for Wakaba's insane actions and her high-pitched voice....aiya!!!

She nearly made me want to gut my own life with my dvd box cover!! gonk

But the one that really took the cake for me and set my teeth on edge was Anthy. We got to see her cold calculating and manipulative sides often. And that anyone could be so bland and doll-like most of the time made be want to punch walls. But it was at the final duel that I almost lost it and threw the remote at the t.v. screen.

That anyone could be so acidic and cruel like that, all the while wearing that pretty little smile...someone you thought you could trust and like...someone you thought had potential. I hated her plain and simple. She gave a whole new meaning to the term 'back-stabber'.

But I also really hated Shiori. However with her character, I couldn't find enough saving graces. I wrote her off from the get-go. She was a character I disliked so much, to the point of where it no longer mattered. To me: she was a b***h and a lying angel faced manipulator. I don't care the reasons. It was what she was. So it didn't matter, she became beneath my notice...almost a ghost, I simply didn't give a wit about her.

It was with Anthy I felt the real betrayal, and so my anger at her lasted longer.

Hey, come on, aren't you being a little harsh on Shiori? Remember, she did have good intentions when she first arrived in Ohtori. She was manipulated just like everyone else to be Akio, Mikage, AND Ruka's pawn. They all exploited her weaknesses, so it's really no surprise she turned out the way she did. In fact, I'd say she is the most emotionally messed up by the duelling game, because she was used by not only two, but three manipulative people.

I find the Shiori-hate among RGU fans interesting, mainly because Shiori displays so many character traits found among the female population in any junior or senior high school. Jealousy of another friend? Check. Insecurity? Check. Manipulation? Check. Backstabbing? Check. Stealing a friend's boyfriend? Check.

My junior-high was especially bad for the latter: if there wasn't one screaming match of 'STAY AWAY FROM HIM, YOU WHORE!" a week (and the occasional after-school fight), it was an extraordinary week. The screaming matches faded in high school, but the backstabbing gossip increased dramatically.

This is really difficult because...well, I love all of them. I honestly do. Even Akio.

But Shiori is my least favorite, and for rather unorthodox reasons. I like a lot about her, and I can see the reasons why she did what she did(not that Juri deserved that at all). I suppose I like her the least because, of all the people who manipulated in the series, she was the worst at it. I mean, if you're going to be bad, you might as well be good at being bad. biggrin

well I liked Shiori... stare *hugs his little princess* heart

But I really didn't like Anthy crying ! Anthy was very weird and creepy. To be honest, she really did scare me.

First it was the whole doll-like persona, the way she just kept getting bashed around... I though "that isn't normal, what the hell is wrong with her?" and I didn't like her.

Then it was when you started to realize Anthy was behind every little thing and would set things up. All while keeping that placid smile on her face! See, what really made my skin crawl was that backstabbing side to her. It just angered me so badly!

You know, when the swords were stabbing into her... I thought "Good! stare " and I was disapointed when Utena saved her from jumping off that building neutral

I cant say that I've actually hated any one character... Sure, i've disliked some of them in the begining (ie. Saionji, Anthy, Nanami, Akio, Shiori...) but as the series went on I've grown to love each of them in their own special way...

except...

Keiko Sonoda neutral

She was so shallow, fake and self-centered. She was like a drone. Nanami's lackies suck.

And Wakaba's ungodly obsession with Saionji made me cringe for a while too. And her stupid onion prince? Pathetic. I was dying of laughter at his lameness.

confused its late.. im not thinking straight.. XD; i sound really, really cruel right now... I just kind of exploded with anger. So, i'll stop here.

Yeah, I never liked Keiko much either. First of all she was not all that interesting, and her hair was so frikin' fugly it mad emy skin crawl. Oh, and also she wore a really ugly ball dress. gonk

Um....I Don't know who I don't like...besides the Lackies. The Lackies SUCK! "Yes, Miss Nanami" "You look wonderful in that dress, Miss Nanami!" "You're so well dressed!" IT GETS ON MY NERVES!! scream

*Sigh* If I had to hate any of the main characters, it would have to be....Um...I dunno. Not Saionji. He was an a*****e, but he...no..he was an a*****e. A weird a*****e, and i grant him it was funny seeing him up in a tree eating a banana...and in that frilly yellow apron...*giggle* Ok, shutting up. I dunno. Akio is the b*****d of the story, I guess. He used and abused Anthy, her love for him was so wrong and misplaced that she felt she had to do anything for him. It's that whole "He keeps hitting me, but I know he loves me." thing, where you know that he's abusing you, but you still think they give a damn. I dunno. I loved the levels of Touga, like another said, from the movie, he was the prince. In the manga version of Adolescence of Utena, as well. He saved Utena and Anthy. He was willing to give up existance just to let Utena be free from that world.

Ha ha ha:

Akio *with a beer gut sitting on an old sofa* : Momma go make me some fish sticks! And where's my Schlitz!?"

Anthy *bruised and trashy* : "...Sure thang suga...I know you hit me cause you love me..."

Akio: *BURP!*

Anthy: "....He doesn't hit me....I just fell down the stairs....all 180, 000 of them..."
