I caught a snippet of the news last night, and they had ever so briefly touched on firemen rioting in Belgium! Of course, they barely told us anything (no celebrities involved=not news....grrr). How are things in your part of the world, Bart?
EDIT by The Bartner: how are things in your part of the world? I've read about what happened in Virginia Tech University.

Well yeah, the firemen are on strike here and they had a small fight with the police, a few people got hurt, but that's about all I heard. There have happened worst things in our country.

I knew nothin' of it. Seriously. When I'm not home to steal my dad's newspaper I'm not aware of "anything"...

I never can tell if the news is down playing a situation, or escalating it. Glad to hear it didn't get too out of hand! 3nodding

In this case: escalating probably. The fireman were kinda rude (watercannon vs. watercannon fight for example) and there was some protest they went too far (9 people in the hospital) but as I said: worst things happened in our little country, things they probably never tell at the news in America.

I heard the news today too and they are already a few days talking about what happened in Virginia Tech University.
What do you think about it? I hope nobody of my lovely fellow colorbumpers was involved in any way?

The Virginia Tech incident is just unbelievable to me. How can two hours pass between the first two shootings and the remainder of his killing spree? I just don't understand the mindset of those who had assumed this was just a domestic incident at the beginning. Haven't they heard? When you assume, you make an a** out of u and me! In this case, it seems they did more damage than making an an a** out of anyone....I really don't like to point fingers of blame, really, but I do expect people to take responsibility for their actions, or lack there of. No, I don't believe it is the fault of the school or campus security that this happened, however I do believe the death toll could have been minimized had they acted sooner.
Tragic...terribly tragic. In my little world those who drug their feet reporting the first incident would be required to apologize to each family of the the murdered victims in person. So sorry Mrs. Johnson, your daughter died because I thought it was just some domestic violence incident and the perpetrator had left the campus. Oops! My bad....
O.k....done ranting.....for now....

Stricken, horrified, saddened, shocked...and yet not suprised.
I will never understand the need to commit such an act, I only know that it happens. And the fact that the death count could have been kept to 2 if the student body had been warned is almost to devestating to contemplate.
There really aren't any words for it.

I hadn't heard the beginning details, just that like 32 people were killed and about 29 injured. That is a horrific number.

Today at work a huge number of us wore Virginia Tech colors to honor the fallen and their families. It was a simple thing, but it made me feel better about people to see so many make the gesture.

Oh, wow! What a great idea! I imagine that did make you feel "connected", know what I mean? I was thinking about doing a candle thing. Like lighting 32 candles tonight. That might be a bit much (the heat alone that batch would give out!), so maybe one large one lit every night for 32 nights....geeze I don't know...but I'd like to do something to connect as well.
