At my school, we're starting to participate in the Dollars for Darfur. It seems like this is one of the worst places in the world to be, but I don't know much about what's going on. I know there's a lot of genocide by this group of people, and the government there is actually funding the group, providing them with guns, bombs, machetes, etc. Does anyone here have more information about it? Maybe even part of a solution to stop this?

So, Darfur is a general region of Western Sudan, bordering Chad. For quite a while now, there has been an Islamic government that has openly supported the genocide of the so-called "Afrikan" population of Western Sudan (Darfur region), forcing hundreds of thousands of refugees into the overpopulated camps of Eastern Chad. There have been small coalitions of Darfurians attempting to form small armies either in Darfur or in Chad, either to fight the Janjaweed militants (non-governmental armies that are government-supported) or simply to traffick materials into Darfur.
The janjaweed genocide is trademarked by complete annihilation of entire villages and unusually cruel tactics (killing the parents in front of the children, then torturing the children). The government has also supported carpet bombing of villages, and complete denial of educational or agricultural funds to the region.
While the death toll is lower, the atrocities commited are easily comparable to the Holocaust. The difference is that *no country is opposing the Sudanese government*. No country is willing to go to war over this. Not the US, not the EU, not Chad or the surrounding countries. The UN won't even sanction Sudan for its crimes.

That government has to be overthrown! Why is no one doing anything about it? Okay, I'm donating any money I earn for the next few weeks to that. Do you know of any groups that are trying to get the US or UN to do something, or how I can find said groups?
