Where i live it seems to be the ''it'' thing to do.. Some people are sort of smart and get the right equipment and starelize and that happy stuff and some are freaking retarded about it. For example theres this cocky kid in my auto body class that first he went to get his tongue peirced and they wouldnt do it cause his veins were to close so he tried to do it himself and he went in halfway and toke it out bcuz he started twitching. So now they he couldnt do that he decided to do the weirdest thing i ever saw, he pierced his pelvic bonehe kept it in for a week and toke it out. His next move was his ear.. he peirced it and then shoved a piece of plastic threw it ((about an 10g)) 2 days later he put a 00g in, retarded? VERY! And right after he toke it up to a 00g he toke everything out and doesnt even want his ear peirced anymore. BUT THATS NoT IT! He decided to do a lip piercing, it came really really of center and it looked horrible and he suposibly liked it, his mom on the other hand didnt. BUT THATS STILL NOT ALL! I head a few days ago from him that he shot his friend in the ear with a BB gun so he could gauge his ear, this kid never had it peirced ever before. I know its true cause i saw pictures of it right after and before he shot him.. Thats about the worst story i have from my area anyone else have any storys that compare to that?

I wouldn't really call it an "it" thing to do. I'm sure some people think they are cooler by doing it themselves though.
It's quite common though.

domokun A friend of mine tried to convince me she pierced her tongue herself. Off to the side near the tip, but I know the guy who was dating her at the time she supposedly did it so I know for a fact she's lying. She thought she was pretty cool telling the story though. razz

my friend pierced her own lip. she told me she dug at it all afternoon. but she didnt have a lip ring to she put an earring in it....it fell out during the night and she was so pissed. lol.

The stupidest thing I've ever seensomeone doing would be piercing their lip with a rather thick nail. gonk It was bleeding EVERYWHERE. Their lip was swollen, infected so obviously they had to take it out and let it heal...
I guess I can't call them stupid as I've pierced my own lip. I tried to be safer. I used a thick safety pin that I had sterilised in Detol, boiling water and another antiseptic wash after that just to be safe.
It got stuck halfway through because I didn't think I got it through at all. Then I had to push it through again which hurt alot. It turned out great, no infections or anything. So after a successful first piercing I decided to do it again on the other side, snake bites. biggrin It went alot better than the first time with not much pain at all. 3nodding After that I done my ears again and my nose on the side.
Other than lip, ears and nose piercings, I would NEVER do any other piercing myself.
It doesn't seem like an "it" thing yet. Maybe in some time... piercings are getting alot more popular lately, DIY isn't so much as popular as getting it done properly.

Nah, I'd never self-pierce. Just doesn't seem like a good idea if you're not trained to do it.

i have no issue with educated, responsible self-piercing. sometimes, financially, there just isn't a choice for much else. but in that case my friends and i usually buy prepackaged one-time use needles - contrary to popular belief, they're not that expensive.

i've seen and done a lot of stupid stuff, but the worst i ever saw was a friend of mine who pierced her tongue with her boyfriend's pipe scraping tool. his scraping tool! it was covered in resin! i walked in right after she had finished and nearly bit her head off.

but the aforementioned are pretty intensely...retarded.

A lot of people I know do their own piercings. Its amazing how none of them have gotten infected. The most popular one seems to be people piercing their lip.

I kinda personally draw the line at lips and ears, maybe nose piercings too. Anywhere else can get badly infected if done wrong, or bleed a lot.

I do all of my own piercings, not because I can't afford to go to a shop, but because you are much more proud of it when you have to suck it up and force the needle through yourself. It is relatively cheap and save to pierce at home. Most malls sell piercing needles at least to a size 4. I go to Razmatazz in the mall. They have clamps, pre-packaged autoclaved needles, guages, etc... So I wouldn't fear self piercing, but you have to be smart about it.
