Support? Against?

Discuss.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2007 12:46 pm

part of me wants to say im against it, but i also feel like i support.... i guess im indifferent, then? its the decision of the mother whether she wants to have an abortion or not. if circumstances call for it, then yeah, she should go through with it (something like the mother would not have enough money to feed her child or she is only pregnant because she was raped and is still young, someone like our age.... its happened before) but if its other circumstances (results of messing around too much, like one of my cousins who has had 2 abortions and is going to keep the twins shes pregnant with now) then im against it because why bother giving an abortion to someone who is just going to get pregnant again?

I'm against most abortions. People say, "Well, it's the mother's choice because it's her body" but by the time she finds out she is pregnant- it's not just her body anymore because that baby inside of her has a beating heart.

I can understand in special cases- like the mother is going to die or she was raped- or incest or something like that mabye. I still don't think money qualifies- adoption is always an option. And if she is young- and it's her fault she's gotten pregnant- than that doesn't give her a reason to kill a living being. Even if it is inside of her.

Yeah, I suppose if the baby is going to die (or become a complete vegetable) or it is the result of rape, then you should probably get an abortion - to save any emotional pains... and yeah, you can always send a child to an orphanage if you can't support it; but if you are just a complete whore and keep getting knocked up - it would be cheaper to invest in Birth Control pills and condoms - you know?

yup! but there are certain situations where i think money could be the reason. not that i can name any off the top of my head, but there have been, im sure, people in a situation where the money was the reason they had to go through with it.

though it IS completely the mother's choice whether or not to go through with it.... and if you think of it strictly scientifically, thats the reason abortions cant be done after a certain amount of time. because then it would be immoral, but if you have it done before the body has even fully developed than it's not as bad. but its still a sad situation to be in...

Pretty much everything I wanted to say has already been stated. I support abortion, for those instances like rape and birth defects, or just if the mother for whatever reason didn't feel like she could deal with a child being born. Sure, people may think it's cruel to kill a child, even an unborn one, but is it any better if the mother leaves it on a roadside to die after it's born? It's horrible, but there's been a lot of that on the news.

True.

I have done extensive research on this topic, because it was my senior thesis- and having a mother who had an abortion when she was 17- I know the sort of physical and psychological dangers an abortion poses.

Such as a huge increase in the chance of breast cancer- nightmares, and suicide attempts. I think an abortion is crucial to avoid if possible.

Someone who can have one and not feel any guilt at all is heartless. A baby is flesh and bone- in Greek history it was considered the ultimate sin to kill your flesh. And a lot of people still feel that way.

I think if more women were educated on the effects, they could make a more informed decision- but most women who have abortions aren't educated at all. All they know is that they are scared and this is better in the now. They don't often think about the future. I think that is the biggest problem.

Quote:
An early pregnancy abortion costs less than an advanced pregnancy abortion. An early pregnancy would fall between 6 to 11 weeks from the first day of the last menstrual period. As the pregnancy advances after 11 weeks the cost increases approximately $100 per week. Early pregnancy abortions can cost anywhere from $350 to $600, depending on the city, state, and clinic in which the procedure is performed. A small number of providers offer terminations through 24 weeks. The cost for a late second trimester procedure can cost up to as much as $3,000.

I am one who doesn't view things morally, as it is not in my nature to do so - however, I can still look at this reasonably. Above you will see a quote obtained from the Women's Medical Center about the cost of abortion. People who are poor really should consider this fact: Condoms can cost as low as 10 CENTS per condom... *points to $3,000* yet abortions can go as high as 3k. If you are poor, don't you think it might be more effective to invest in condoms, rather then have a child you won't be able to support? True, you can do it the "black market" way, so to speak, however that is not only occassionally ineffective, but also quite dangerous to yourself.

this is true. but still, i cant really explain but i understand that some mothers dont want their children to be literally living off child support so thats one way it comes to play. im really trying to put my thoughts to words but its not working out well xd

That's why you should send your child to an orphanage... if it is a newborn baby, it has a much higher chance of being adopted - and it'll get decent treatment while it is there.

I support abortion.

- The mother, depending on age and such, is likely to die if the child has problems. [Facing the wrong way, ect.]

- It's the mother's body- not yours.

- Adoption... Not the best way to spend life.

- It doesn't affect me in the least, I'm already born.

- Rape, anyone?

I kind of support abortion, I guess.

The world is over populated as it is, abortions help to keep it down. I must sound like a terrible person. But it's the mother's choice, and if she doesn't want the baby, I would rather have her have an abortion than give it up for adoption or an orphanage. Let's face it - living in an orphanage doesn't sound like a slice of heaven. But I wouldn't know.

If the baby is a result of a condom breaking or, terribly, rape, then abortion would be a way for me. but that's just me.

i can't really stay too long on this subject,

I'm against.

Why?

Because, basically, it's killing a child before they can live, breathe... the chances for them to be born and grow up are blown away. Yes I realize it's a womans choice to do so, but really, isn't it your fault for not being careful while having sex? Although some also may say 'So we should just let the mother pay by raising a child she doesn't want? That doesn't seem right,', at that part, I agree. But at least if you let the child be born, you can give him or her to a adoption center or orphanage. Yes, not all orphanages and adoption centers give their children to good parents, but isn't it better to risk it so your child may live in a warm enviorment? For these reasons and more (I'm too lazy to post them), I am against.

( Also, about over-polution; there is tons of room left in the world. Would a few more babies be that bad? )

There is room - but in places nobody lives. In the places where people want to live, there is no more "room" for them (alright they'd fit, but that's like saying there is a bit of room in my shoe - we should put some stuff in it). Like deserts, the tops of mountains, the oceans, active volcanos... and places that are essentially giant trash piles (actually, quite a lot of those places are very overpopulated too)

I know, but I mean that the Earth is big enough to have room for more people- yes, that meaning room so they can move around and get houses and such.
