Seriously, I've been dying to know - does *anyone* know the joke involving the Nine Horse Hitch? All I know is that it's crass, but that was said in the book. I'm wondering if it's based on an actual joke, or if RJ ever hinted about it in interviews and the like.

Based on the other inn's in that place (was it Lugard?), i'd say the name was sexual in nature, but other than that i have no clue.

Galadedrid Damodred The Ringwraiths, silly! The Nine Horse Hitch - the Nine Riders from The Lord of the Rings! ...well, yes, but they did say in the book that it was a reference to some scandalously dirty joke. *That* was the part I wondered about. Maybe it has to do with the Very Secret Diaries and Ringwraith #5?

Nanny Ogg <3 But I've never heard RJ mention the nine horse hitch joke except for what you've already said. Which really bugs me, cause I wanna know! xd

Maybe I should just start a contest with a prize for the best joke to involve a nine-horse hitch...and of course it would have to be naughty enough to bother someone from the Two Rivers. (Which probably wouldn't take much, to be honest.) Gimme a tick, I'll come up with a prize.

Oh... do you remember an Inn Rand was staying at in The Dragon Reborn? Or was it The Great Hunt? Anyways, it was called THE NINE RINGS. "Nine for the mortal men, doomed to die."

Yep, I snerked at that one. That was *bleeding* obvious. Of course, there's also the fact that Shades are more or less identical in appearance to ringwraiths. Well, except for that non-billowing cloak thing. Of course, that could simply be his way of putting in that LOTR and his stuff are both real, just from different cycles of the WoT. Legend becomes myth, and that. You know. There are *scads* of legend references in all the books to date, most with a slight twist from the current accepted form you can look up on wiki.

Don't....get...joke. Drivin me fricken nuts, people. Remember that Inn,um, The Good Nights Ride or something, that was funny. But, yeah, I immediately thought of Ringwraiths as well. The Very Secret Diaries are AWESOME. Captain Obvious just commented on everything everybody said and basically agreed. What is the Point?

perhaps it has to do with a person being on the end of a hitch. Because they say something aobut knowing an 8 and a 10 horse hitch sooo who and what would the ninth one be for? ? ? perhaps a Greandal tourture or perhaps a karmasutra pose
