First off, I think we all know what Heaven and Hell are so I think I can skip that part, we also all know that supposedly these are the only places one may go after they die, and that they're actions in life determine whether they will receive eternal bliss in the Kingdom of Heaven or be condemn to an eternity of painful torture in the deepest pits of Hell.

Personally, I do not believe in such places. For one thing, I'm not religious in anyway, I believe in myself and that I and I alone am the master of my destiny, but we'll save that discussion for later. I also don't believe in the theory that if you don't believe in god, even if you lived a good, honest life and very rarely did anything bad you are condemned to hell. Another point I will make is that even the most insignificant, most irrelevant thing you do in your life, such as pick up a quarter up off the ground and put it into your pocket will send you to an eternity of suffering in hell. While I may be acting a bit over dramatic, that's what it seems like to me.

Quote:
Me niether but I think they are so final that is wrong *goes off on a rant* How can living only 70 years decided what you will do for eternity. that is worng people change and enviorment has an effect. For example it is a are and you happen to be in the army because because they draft your a** in and you are ordered to excuianate some prisoners and throw them in a group grave. It is not your fault you are doing what you have to do. It is a moral thing but not your choice and you will probably pay for them later with thinking about them. (Sorry the concept of heaven and hell pisses me off)

I stand by my decision. I'm not very religious myself but I just don't think it is right with the concept of "My religion is the better religion all the rest of you are going to my version of hell" I mean let people believe what they believe because their holy book saids the same thing (Minus the buddist reincarnation thing....). Besides who knows which is the "right" religion.

Why it might have came around(My theory)

1.Whatever back to heaven and hell it is just a limit. It is a historical tool to keep everyone in check. I guess it was a way to tell someone to straighten up and follow society or you will burn forever as a threat like the boogy man.

2.Also it can be a comfort to someone who has lost a loved one.

3.I is is the hope of humans to extend there life because they don't want it to end. So they have to have a place to go. Because people generally fear the void.

4.Also people like to be rewarded for everything if they help an old woman across the street they want the parade kind of thing. We just want justice I guess or something similar.

What I want to happen?
I do like the idea of am "after life" just not a be all end all defined place like heaven or hell. I preasonally like limbo, reincarnation, elsewhere and other plane anything really. Anyway, I want to be a ghost if I had a choice. lol. Seriously I'm not brave enough to go on to anything and I would be heartbroken not to find my family so I would rather not even go. Heck I can't handle the idea of death I half wish I was never born just so I won't have to see people die or deal with it. I am a coward though.

Those are all very good theories and my vision of an after life is similar to yours. I like the idea of reincarnation or you are taken to another dimensional plane and you get to create your own world and live in it.

^^ cool

Well technically we all make the world to be what we want it to be now! it is our reality (ex: No one can see (literally like your eyesight) what we see...)

On another note against a defined heaven and hell the world we currently lived in is a mixture of the bad and good why would that change after death. We're your one or the other? (I was thinking about this in trig oddly enough)

Yes, that is true, I can't see what your view of the world looks like, and you can't see mine.

I agree with you there, it goes with the principle of Yin & Yang. Neither one can exist without the other. If Heaven was only good that would defy the natural balance of good and evil; same as Hell. If that were the case, your spirit would be rent in two and half of you would go to Heaven and half to Hell. That in it self would be impossible according to the doctrine of Heaven & Hell

As I said, nothing can exist without balance, and Heaven & Hell clearly defy that.

It's actually intresting over-seeing this Heaven/Hell situation. While atheists and Agnosticism hace almost to no God, or religion, they don't believe in Heaven/Hell, or are not sure. It all comes down to religion. Orthadoc Jews don't believe in Hell, they only belive in Heaven. And maybe can differ from each religion.

Well if you wanted honesty, thats all you had to say.
I never want to let you down or have you go, its better off this way...
For all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took,
Remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor..?

I don't really know my beliefs. I want to believe there's really somebody who watches over me and protects me, but there probably isn't. Life is just life, and no matter how much I prayed nothing ever changed. I wasn't blessed, my situation didn't change, nothing happened. No.

I feel like, when I die, I'll get reincarnated.

I figure I'll just keep moving on and take care of myself, since I'm not sure there's a god that'll do that for me.

i follow no religion, i believe in no god and therefore no heaven or hell. howiever, i do believe in reincarnation, but not as an animal or something. i believe that there's and infinite number of parallel universes where every possibility of your life is played out. and i believe you reincarnate as yourself in one of these alternate universes where your life can be completely different by a single decision. for more information on this, look up the red dwarf episode 'dimension jump' razz

User Image I do not have a religion, and I do not believe in any types of deities.
I don't believe in an afterlife either.

The only thing I do believe in is fate, and you are the only one who controls your own.

Seems like everyone who has posted in this thread has no religion and/or doesn't believe in an afterlife.

User Image Nowadays, most people don't anymore.
Looks like with each generation people are getting smarter logically.
Of course, that doesn't include common sense, unfortunately. =|

True, as time passes, people get smarter and start thinking more logically, problem is, they don't use common sense and religion still has a good strong hold on the world.

Actually, I have a question for you:

Why do they call it common sense if it ain't so common anymore?
