Literacy – this will help you in life and in this guild. As you can tell by the title, we are a Literate guild – and so we require the members have some literacy. In addition, you have a slightly greater chance (although many other factors still apply) of receiving a council position if you are more literate then other members.

Semi-Literate: This is the lowest level of literacy that will be allowed in the roleplays of this guild, unless a higher level is required by the thread's creator. Spelling will be the best it can be, and adjectives will be used fairly often – perhaps not too as great an extent as others, but to some extent, at the very least. No large words are required, however they are encouraged. Please refrain from one-liners unless it is just casual discussion.

Literate: This is the most common form of literacy we expect in our guild, where everything is nearly perfect in the spelling/grammar department, and larger words and adjectives are used on a fairly common scale. Most roleplaying posts of this type must be about a paragraph in length, MINIMUM. All other discussion and debates of this type are encouraged to be at a decent length also.

Advanced: Here is where we will also except some leeway, where you use large, advanced words and language correctly – however can either not spell all words correctly or have some grammar errors.

Literate-Advanced: This is what we would like to make an ideal for the guild, where all posts combine the amazing skills of the advanced with the literacy of the literates. A combination of excellent grammar, spelling, and vocabulary where, unless no other interaction can be made without another post, we would like to see about two-three posts, as a minimum. Do remember – we will always except more then our minimum.

Lit-Adv. +: We cannot truly expect all of our members to be at this level, however do remember that if a roleplay requires you are at this level – then you must post at this level. This level is not so much defined by its skills in the English language, but more its length. When in a 7-11 font size range, it is expected that in these posts, it is about the size of a scrolled page, give or take depending on your imaging and resolution on your PC. In addition to making long, intricate posts – we would also expect you were literate and advanced, although just literacy is expected. Usually, roleplays of this nature are made up of extensive adjective use, less interactions, and inner-thoughts. If you are in a conversation with another character, then there will be a 3-5 paragraph minimum.

I can never remember which one I am. sweatdrop I'm definitely Lit/Adv.+ when I'm writing my books, but not in every roleplay I take part in. Those are normally just regular Literate/Advanced I suppose, but sometimes you just have nothing to say in the situation your character gets put into. I guess you would be the same way though.

Also, please don't write a paragraph in font size 7; I can barely read it.

A tip of advice - my dear, you can alter how big your computer views font sizes... some people do that if they can't read the smaller fonts... and yeah, I range from semi-literate to Lit/Adv.+ when I am roleplaying - I just sort of do what everybody else is doing, you know? Of course, in roleplays where it varies entirely, then I suppose I am usually in the regular zone for literacy and advanced writing.

I really don't know how to classify my skill, but I guess I can put it between Literate and Advanced. Some of my posts can be quite lengthy, while others are done out of pressure and my mind isn't on task. I have to be in the mood for posting ( and that genre of roleplaying) to produce a half decent one,

I'd consider myself advanced in that I actually consider conotation, style, and tone of my posts- Basically, I actually write realistically.

Several posts that go on and on is how people used to write in, basically, the oldern times. This is 2007, can't we state what we mean and move on?
I also have a very condense writing style. :3

Literate-Advanced or merely Advanced seems to be how I roll. It can very well vary; I don't normally have dictionary.com open in another window, or even Microsoft Word and/or another spell checking thing. To my knowledge, I'm mostly always typing things correctly, and grammatically correct, at that. Like any normal human being, however, I'm imperfect. My eyes miss a mistake here, a mistake there... I don't obsess over 100% correction. I like to think I'm perfect when roleplaying comes to mind, but I am not.
Creativity in roleplays is my strongpoint; complex characters are fun. Instable characters are fun. I can indefinitely whip up something unique in a good ten minutes' time, if not less. My mind is more than likely constantly working out future plots for characters--if not, then I'm most certainly thinking up new characters. xD

I believe I'm Literate-Advanced, anyway.
Though I'm too modest and/or plainly unsure to even dare to call myself Lit-Adv. +...

So yep, that's me, in a nutshell. : D

I consider myself to be a semi-literate to literate. I can get deep into typing when I go all literate. Some of my posts can be depressing and some just plain old wild. I'm working on getting better paragraphs that actually have alot of detail and alot of emotion.

When I do post, I have a certain way of posting. Some of my posts will have some lyrics to my favorite song that fits my character and a picture of the character to show what he/she looks like. Then it all depends on my literacy.

Also in my post I use 10 point font and very contrasting colors like purple and dark blue which kind of resemble my personality.

I have recently grown an odd liking towards font size ten. eek I don't know why, but it just seems to look nicer when I'm typing a post in character. I also give my characters different font colors, but the colors are usually to resemble their personalities, not mine. I'm good with making my posts descriptive with a lot of emotion, but the size of my posts vary with how much the other posts give me to write about. If the RP is Advanced/Literate, then I'll write a very long reply, and if it's the usual two or three paragraphs, then I'll do the same in return. One-liners are the exception, to which I'll still type a paragraph or two in response. The quality of my writing doesn't really change much, just the quantity of it.

I do agree, size 10 font does make the whole post look a little nicer than the other fonts. I to give them different font colors. I use one color for what they are saying and another for what they are thinking. In any case most of my characters are dark in personality, which effect my personality, so I always use dark colors. If they have a slight change in personality I go with a light color but that rarely happens.

I am working on my literacy more because of the new literate guilds and roleplays but I can't seem to let all of my emotions come out when I type. I have it all in my head, when I begin, and I know I can do it somehow when I start typing my memory goes blank then I have to think about it. In other words, I sometimes forget what I am supposed to type. sweatdrop It sucks badly. On the other hand, I can write something really deep on paper. It is really weird.

I normally just make anything they're saying bold and anything they're thinking italics, though for some RPs I only color whatever they're saying and leave the rest black. My characters tend be be of darker sorts as well, and I suppose that's why so many of them are black, brown, or indigo. It's rare that I use a light color, mainly because even I wouldn't be to fond of reading three paragraphs in bright yellow font, but I have used red and orange. Many of my characters have elements, so that also helps me decide.

Writer's block is annoying; when the situation occurs where you think of the most intricate details of a character within seconds, including their whole life history, and you lack the words or inspiration to write it all out. And it normally seems to happen when inspiration is most needed... I tend to write more easily on the computer than on paper, and sometimes easier in my head than on the computer. That, and little good will come out of me trying to post a detailed, extended response too early in the morning.

I honestly cannot say what I am.. depends on how much I am into what I am doing really, ha ha. I am no where near perfect, meh, but I try. wink

Hur hur. About time I've made my post through these threads. I usually consider myself Adv. Literate, but theeen.. I hit those writer blocks and wierd dry drafts that just make everything awkward. Juu know? I'm also praised by many and then criticized by others. So really, I think it just matters who your roleplaying with. Someone else might have extreme high standards. Such as grammar nazi's and the like of those.

Also, I still figure that I'll forever be improving. xD

Well for, myself I can say that I can range from all categories depending upon who I'm actually RP'ing with. I tend to go by the "give what you get, and add a little more to try to improve someone else's literacy" rule so everyone feels on equal playing ground. My rule of thumb though if I'm RP'ing with anyone semi-lit or less is to give at least 4 lines in size 10 font. Honestly I can't remember the last time I post a one liner while RP'ing. Even then when I have writer's block I can squeeze out four lines most of the time, however other times, I just take a break and go to my creative life source of either the toilet of shower, do not ask why, I don't know either, it just seems that all my creative thought process seems to be amplified while in the confines of my bathroom...yeah...I'm weird!

If I'm RP'ing with someone, most of the time I try to stay at least Literate-Advanced and Literate Advanced + as long as I have enough people to work with who are at least Literate or even Advanced. Trying to describe everything (i.e. weather, lighting, shadows, sounds, colors, emotions, etc.) and develop my character's personality, and background with small flashbacks also helps with my quality and length of posts. A lot of times I find myself getting really into a post or scene I want to display to describe and before I know it, I just typed up 5 pages, single spaced on MS word.

For the most part when I'm just initially writing by myself, with just introducing my character, I'm Lit. Adv.+. Whether I'm able to maintain that level is dependent upon the people I'm RP'ing with. What is important to me though is character development, the ability to showcase a variety of themes and emotions from my character. For the past year and a half I've been developing the same character who falls under the category of "flawed hero" stuck on what's called "a hero's journey."

As far as writing is concerned and RP'ing in general, yeah classification's are great, but to myself, it really doesn't matter, as long as I can have what I call "Immortal flow and rhythm" which is the ability to just type out everything I want to convey to my audience, my philosophy and life lessons I've learned in a clear, concise, and accurate way, with a style and voice of writing that is 100% distinctly my own, then I couldn't be happier. Whether it falls under Semi-lit to Lit/Adv + I don't care although most of the time when I do achieve this feat, the post can be considered Lit. Adv. + quality mainly because of all the details I have to describe and themes I try to convey though my many symbols.

On a side note about song lyrics, they are great to post to make a post seem a bit longer, but I try to stay away from that unless there is a connection between a song and my character. If they don't have purpose or meaning for being incorporated within a scene, trying to distinguish a certain tone or feeling of the situation then I just find all the lyrics to be useless garbage. On many occasions though I have my character, signing the chorus of the song like a psychotic madman as if he were in a karaoke bar on Christmas Eve! lol! That's just me and my own little personality there!
