I've noticed so far no one has posted a thread about this game yet. Is that because no one in here has actually gotten a chance to play it other than me?

The funny thing is about this game, its the first game I've ever bought on the fluke that it was good. Why? Because other than Halo, Gears of War is the second game I kept hearing about EVERYWHERE. People wouldnt shut up about it, and I saw a glimpse of it played a while back before I actually got it. And they also said if you liked Halo, then you'd like the game (mainly due to the fact that alot of the controls are similarly put together like in Halo).

But in a nutshell.....DEFINITELY WORTH IT! OMG you just HAVE to get it. Unfortunately the gaming time to beat it....isnt very long, but even after you beat it, you want to play it over and over again. Its definitely more fun when you play with another person.

Upsides:

Graphics is the obvious one. my GOD after playing GOW for a good while and switch directly to Halo....Halo 2 looks like a freaking CARTOON compared to the graphics in GOW. However GOW IS on the 360 while Halo 2 is still on the xbox...so yeah imagine what Halo 3 will look like.

Fighting system is great. Although the point of view is sorta weird you get used to it easily. Aiming is fine, firing is fine. What I love is how you can actually DUCK behind something. A wall...a barrier...cars. You name it, you can duck behind it. And I love how if you want to dodge from one barrier to another YOU CAN! Its challenging especially when you play "Insane Mode" the enemies are ALOT harder to take down and you get hurt alot more easily.

The gore is unbelievable. And the detail you see after you throw a grenade and an enemy explodes and you can see the remains of their bodies...the entrails and bones and everything....I think thats pretty cool. I haven't seen this much gore since.....well of the games I HAVE played....probably Blood or Doom....or maybe even the recent Mortal Kombat games. This game is pretty realistic with the gore. I mean ESPECIALLY when you get the chainsaw gun.....and onto weapons....

Weapons....there really isn't a weak weapon other than the pistol....unless you get the pistol revolver...that baby can do some pretty good damage. The only thing you really have to decide with weapons is what weapon to use at what place and what time. Like at some parts in th e beginning its good to have the Hammer of Dawn. That baby is one sweet gun. But it can only be used outside and if the satelite it radios too is in contact. Cuz basically you point, aim, and the laser from the satelite above shoots down this exploding laser ray upon the enemy/area you choose to aim it at. However DON'T aim it near you....cuz it explodes when it first hits the ground. Lol I found this out the hard way. the chainsaw gun is pretty much the most favored of the game cuz not only does it have a fluid rapid fire...IT HAS A CHAINSAW CONNECTED TO IT! OH BABY does it saw away at your enemy. And as an extra kicked in treat for the game, when you chainsaw an enemy down, blood splatters on your SCREEN lol. Its great and very satisfying. Shot gun is good....lol always a shot gun....but only at close range. The Torque Bow is a nasty son of a b***h. If you aim it right, its like a tracking missile and explodes on contact. But it being used against you...it can get annoying. Theres other weapons too.

Downsides:

Although you can heal your friends and your friends can heal you....if you play solo, even though you can heal your comrade computer controlled party members YOU CANT BE HEALED! That doesn't make a LICK of sense. Even though the AI of the characters they'll heal each other. But do they heal you? NOOOO. I think its like this in the game because it makes it more challenging.....definitely more challenging. Because if you get hurt enough to where your knocked down, thats IT. You start over from the last check point. This can get annoying but it doesnt really bother me.

You can't jump....yeah thats right you CANT JUMP! But I think this is due to the fact that the armor they're wearing is VERY heavy...heave to the point that there IS no point to jumping....I don't think they can either. They can run and dodge...but no jump. Its not really necessary for gameplay anyway. But I'm so used to jumping in Halo, I thought it was stupid.

Flashlights....you dont get ANY flashlights cuz theres areas in the game that get kinda dark and itd be NICE to have a flashlight. HOWEVER....when you play the game and you get to the part where you have to deal with the Kryll.....firing at propane tanks to get light at night to keep the Kryll off of you would defeat that purpose of propane tanks if you had a flashlight. Cuz the Kryll wont attack you if you're under light. So I think thats probably why you don't get one. I mean itd be nice....but again not really necessary.

The storyline is a bit too simple for my taste, however for a war story of mankind verses alien kind there isn't much to tell anyway. But if you load the game and let it sit until it plays the intro movie, it gives you an idea as to why you're fighting the race called the Locust. OUR race (military wise) are called the Cog...and instead of dog tags their called Cog Tags. But yeah I usually prefer a more in depth storyline, but again its not really needed anyway. Besides the way the troops talk to each other is amusing enough. lol

other than that I don't think there's any other downside. And all in all I give it a 10 out of 10. Fantastic game. a little short on story but itll have a sequel anyway cuz it ends on a huge cliffhanger.

I've played Gears of War and i beat it in a matter of 5 hours, it wasn't that hard for me, even on Hard difficulty. and i agree with the fact that it's stupid that the computer allies can't heal you.

but what i'm hoping for is my camera to work again so i can start working on the machinema i got going to Gears of War.
