just in case you wver wondered what Kabuto actually means
there are three meanings
1. Kabuto can refer to the headpeice of a samurai (his temmates names mean sword and sheild, so they are a complete set)
2. it can refer to a type of beetle
3. (this one is my favorite) Kabuto Yakushi refers to a plant called aconite, which can be used to cure pain, or kill horribly. This is the one i think most applys to our friend in glasses.

I kinda figured the plant one considering every time I looked up his pictures I get a picture of a cacti-like plant.
I believe the pokemon came first. Mainly because pokemon came out somewhere in either 1995,1996, or 1997. Though Naruto made it's first appearance in Akamaru Jump in 1997, his official airing of in the manga didn't really start till 1999 in Weekly Shonen Jump. >> Man, when did pokemon really start?

I know the actual pokemon kabuto is part of a second season, however...so who know. our kabuto might just have come first.
