Hello, I'm new, I profess in the subject of Onierology. Onierology is the basis of all my happiness. Anyone else who has an unusual obsession with Onierology please contact me and make it obvious that you like me because I lack the ability to decipher whether or not someone likes me sweatdrop sweatdrop .
Anyways, I'm pretty sure this is Aspies, but do you find it normal to repeat words??? I do this a lot. It is much of an anytime sort of thing. I'll talk to my friends, i have no history of a speech disorder, and I'll repeat the same thing three or four times religiously. For example:
"Hey Mitch" "Hey Jess" "Do, do, do you know, know this politician, this politician Ann Coulter. I really, really, I really like her because, her because she is awesome, she thinks, thinks alot like, alot like me I would, would say."
Now, I speak very much faster than you'll probably read this. Not only that but I will repeat noises/words under my breath or in my mind like:
"Redundant, redundant, redundant, redundant..."
I'll repeat it continuously in my mind but most often in my head. I'm not sure why I continuously repeat this words, it is almost like getting a song stuck in my head but there is no 'rhythm' or referring it as obnoxious.
And I also commonly repeat words others say. I sorta find it easier to repeat words to learn. Unfortunately this makes me very very very self conscious of myself because I'm not sure if my friends particularly think of me weird for it.
edit/ and often if i'm speaking quiet and saying something very short, i'm slow
Does this happen to you often?

I'm afraid that rarely happens to me, I am a little slower of a speaker.... but sometimes, when I stumble over my words, this happens....

I'll repeat myself when I get really stressed or excited. Or when I'm shocked, I'll say things over and over again.
I'll also repeat phrases or little sayings I like as well. But I don't repeat words very often.
Most of the time though the thing that gets on peoples nerves is that I speak backwards. Literally, I'll switch around vowels or consonants and I'll mix around words when I say them. So instead of saying: "Don't stick the chopsticks upright in the rice bowl" I'll end up saying "Don't stick the rice bowl right up in the chopsticks."
I confuse people that way, but that's not the AS, that's the dyslexia. My mind is a very confusing place.
Now a bit off the topic: So you like dreams?

When I am tired I slur a lot, when I'm mashed up about something I will stutter a ******** load and not be able to finish a sentance but my best friend is a stammer person so he doesn't care.
I also stutter when I am not paying complete attention toy something....so that is all the time.
I will generally repeat myself cuss I'm jsut cool like that and I will, by compunction, say certain words all the time.
Currently it is 'Death' 'Dude' 'Aye' 'indeed' and 'brother' and 'beep' and ummmm...I can't remember but...oh yeah...when I say whatever, I have to say man after it.
My accent changes a lot.....random I know but I was wondering if anyone else has a particular accent flux...cus I do all the time.

I repete words in my head. Like when I'm trying to think about what I'm going to say I happen to linger at curtin areas on my "head Conversations" (There not like people talking in my head or anything it's just me kinda 'practacing' what I would say if someone wanted to talk to me about something.)
I'll sometimes repete conversations that I have allready said to someone or other's noticed that i'll repete curting words or names if I'm really excited about telling them something I like.

That only happens to me from time to time. I am a fairly slow speaker, and it sort of just slips out like my brain is refreshing itself without my control. I think it may be a replacement for the "um..." (which I also do a lot) when I'm trying to speak faster than my brain will form sentences. A lot of the time my mouth gets a little bit ahead of my brain, or something gets a little jumbled in the translation from brain to mouth. I have pretty decent grammar and sentence structure when I'm typing, but a lot of the time when I am speaking my sentence structure gets rather twisted around.

I usually repeat in a very soft tone what I say or hear. This is called "echolalia". Since I don't speak English, I found it really good, because that's how I learned English: by repeating in English what I hear in Spanish.
Most of the time, the people don't even notice. When they do, they just say "Why do you repeat what you say?". Then I calmly and naturally say "Personal quirk. That's how I learned English".
Oh, and I also have a very "broken" speech, because I also remain stuck in a word. My first crush seemed to like it. biggrin That only happens when I'm normally speaking: when I do it in front of an audience or a camera, my speech becomes totally fluent, maybe because of the pressure. Sometimes I also get stuck at a certain part and suddenly start speaking nonsense; when that happens, I just say "GAH!" and resume my normal speech.

I use the same phrases over and over, usually "Hey [name]" and "What do you think?" whenever I show someone some art.
As a lame form of sarcasm, whenever someone answers an obvious question, I always add, "No, it's a banana." The sarcastic answer is always banana for some reason.

The worst I get is a stutter whenever it happens, or I'll say things faster than I can think. I'm trying to break out of that habit though.

I repeat myself. I don't know why. I can't think now. Blah.

I repeat things a lot, but usually it's in my head, when I'm thinking to myself. I'm just trying to get things to sound right for when I talk.

I don't have that problem, but my autistic sister shows a lot of echolalia.
I know this person, though, who I suspect has Asperger's that never got treated as a kid. She always repeats herself, but in an obnoxious and annoying way, not a cute way like my sister. She isn't the kind of Aspie who screams things randomly (I know one who does, and I tolerate him more than this person), but she doesn't get any kind of social cue. Like, earlier today, I was working on a math project in study hall.
[Her] "What'cha doin'?" [Me] "Math project." [Her] "Wanna play cards?" [Me] "No, I'm doing a math project." [Her] "But cards is fun!" [Me] "And math is more important to colleges!"
Another thing that happens all the time. Her, the guy I secretly love, some other friends, and I all sit together at lunch.
[Her] "So, Becca (my name), when're you gonna ask out the guy you like?" [Me] "When I feel like it." [Her] "Because he's right at this table, you may as well do it now!" [Him & I] "STFU DO NOT WANT!" (Well, not exactly, but almost. ^.^ [Her] "I love how I'm so good about not saying his name when he's nearby!"
Yeah, she's annoying. ^.^ And she's a senior in high school, and acts like she's seven. Honestly.

It happens to me; I'll say something like "Actually, it wasn't that bad, actually." People don't really notice; I'm in Puerto Rico, and most other people who 'speak' English butcher it pretty badly.

I don't really repeat words or anything but I have noticed that I get some words backwards now and then, in a kind of verbal-dyslexia sort of way. For example, earlier today I was trying to say, "That'd be a good place for goats" and wound up saying "That'd be a goat place....a good place.." I usually catch it and correct myself right away but now and then I miss it and get looked at funny or someone points it out and I have to say "you know what I mean" which makes me look stupid. Every once in awhile i'll actually leave a word out while talking, with my mom she usually knows what I meant to say and goes on but again, you get people who point it out like you're an idiot. After awhile that just gets embarrasing.
