The branches rattled with excitement as the Faufer clan began preperations for their big annual hunt. This was a test of their skills both on the ground and in the trees. The light quick kittens were sent into the canopy to hunt birds while those who had excellent sight were sent to the forest floor to find the non-poisonous veggies they ate.
And on this even, the rare old Tabitha would actually come out and lead a forest floor group. Not many looked forward to it but she knew the forest floor better than anyone. She, unlike other adults, had made it her home instead of the billowing branches of the rainforest trees.
Rules 1. Adults have final say in all matters. 2. Stay with in the area you are assigned 3. If you have questions, PM Byagane. 4. Please remember that kittens cannot be left alone.
Hunt Rules 1. One adult or one teen will lead a group of 2-3 kittens out into their assigned areas. 2. All teams lead by teens will be within calling distance of at least 2 adult areas. 3. Teams lead by an adult can catch up to medium size animals. 4. Teams lead by a teen can only catch small game. 5. This is a time for kitten training, so no sending them to kill a bear. 6. If two teams happen to meet, the head of each team may try to kill a larger animal but without the assistance of the kittens. Kittens must be kept safe at all times.
Areas 1. Sparce area of the forest floor, good for catching birds/frogs/bugs. Also good for veggies and plant gathering. But beware, some of the largest prey animals are here and can hurt you. 2. More dense area of the forest, about midway up the canopy. Good for monkeys/sloths/large birds. 3. Very dense, only adults can go with kittens here. Large game such as wild cats/large monkeys/Birds of Prey.
Teams 1. Rayna, 2 kittens. Area 2 2. Head Huntress, 2 kittens. Area 3 3. Head Homemaker, 2 kittens. Area 1 4. Tabitha, 2 kittens Area 1

Tanya blinked and sighed while standing on a tree branch. ~If someone is hurt maybe Ican try and heel them and maybe tabith will see and help me become a full fledged healer. Though saying that I wanna stay with my sister. She hasn't shown up yet though. I wonder whoelse will be on our team.~ The kitten beat her wings and hovered off the branch. ~She's to become an adult today....how does that happen?~ She continued to think to herself while waiting for the other's to start the hunt.

"Ok cougars, to your positions then off to your areas. Good hunt and may the forest give her blessings upon us!"
The Cheiftess headed off while Tabitha rounded up her two kittens and marched off.

Rayna showed up reagally. Grow up to be a fine cougar. She spotted Tanya andwalked over. "Hello sis." She bellowed.
"I get full responsibility of younow, so lets have the best hunt we can. Ok?" Who else is in our group. I was told to bring 2 kittens." Her voice not much different then before.
Leading the way to the rest of the cougars she looked around for any needy cubs.

~We got another cougar. She a bit niave, and immature though. Sadly, I can't remember her name.~
"Hey sister, I'm glard your an adult. When do you think I'll become a teen?" She questioned before hearing a big crash. THe other kiktten was toppled over a bush and was weakly geting up to stable her self before dropping tothe ground.
She had thought there was a prey in the tree bush, but was wrong. Her mistake ended up in a cut.
Tayna smiled a bit gidy thought felt pity for the other cub. "Rayna I'll try to use what I learned in school!" The cub said kneeling down next to the other cub. She held her hands slightly aparty and concentraited hardly. A glow formed in between them and Tanya placed her hands over the cut. It began to seal itself.
Tanya waited till it was completly sealed before breaking her concentration. She looked at teh healed cut, and at her sister in awe. "I did it." She whispered.

Rayna looked at her sister with a pleased expression. "YOu did very well, mom would be extremly proud." She smiled and looked at teh two cubs who got up and smiled at each other, thanking one another.
The adult stood proudly as tehy heard a small rustle in the tree leaves. A sloth moved slowly on a branch and stood still.
Rayna signaled teh cubs to get ready. "Team work you two." She whipsered ever so softly.

Rain fell from the clouds healing the earth of it's pain as The two cubs worked together to pin and capture the sloth. They smiled and brought it back to Rayna.
"Here sister. Thank you for being such a good teacher. I hope to be sucessful like you someday." She said with flatery. Her ears peked up as she looked up at the clouds. "I'm glad to have such a wonderful big sister. Tanya added with certanty.

Mau trotted after the old healer, surprised by her speed despite her age. The tawny kitten was quiet at first, not wanting to ask any irrelevant questions that might irritate her teacher. She was actually quite adept at moving among the trees, but her problem wasn't really one of agility. Mau was no huntress material and she knew it. After a while, her surrounding were no longer familiar. Mau had never wandered this far from camp before and she took special care to stick close to her teacher and step exactly where she stepped, lest there be any hidden danger. Like pools of quicksand for instance. Mau had never seen one before, and wasn't sure she would recognize one if she did. While her mind was engaged with imagining quicksand, she ceased to be as attentive to her surroundings and tripped on a root.

And just before she fell she was immediately caught by the arm. Tabitha glanced behind her and hissed a bit.
"Do keep your wits about you. While we have the easier area, some of the big predators live down here. Don't need to give them the idea that you are a weak snack. Now come on!"
She grumlbed a bit and continued down a familiar path to her. There they stopped infront of a large tree with humongous gords on it. It looked like someone had been here a long time ago because some gourds had cloth tied around one end, making it look like a bottle.
"Ok, we will get a few of these and prepare them. Then we leave them here to dry and pick them up on our way back."
She took out some knives and string. She showed the kittens how they made bowls out of the tough rind of these fruits. To cut them cleanly in half, just tie the string around, knot at one end gets gently hit into the flesh, then just tighten until it pops in half. Then the flesh was removed as it was not edible, leaving small bowls, plates, and serving dishes. She also showed them now to make water containers and small barrel like containers out of the gourds.
((Ok, so I got it from Swiss Family Robinson, sue me ^_^ ))

Mau's ears drooped at the reprimand. Always eager to please, she payed rapt attention as Tabitha demonstrated the bowl-making process. Mau picked up a string and wrapped it carefully around a small gourd. She tapped it carefully and began to tighten the string. The old healer must have been much stronger than she looked because it took all of Mau's strength to cut it apart.

((Cry takes over because nobody seems to be responding.))
"No no. Weren't you watching at all?" scolded the old healer, snatching the gourd away. "The rind is tough. Don't just cut anywhere. Look for the soft spot here." she reprimanded, stroking along a barely noticable cleft in the color with knarled fingers.
Mau followed the motions with her huge ruby eyes. When she tried again, the gourd fell apart easily. Now that she looked for it, that narrow strip of lightness was blaringly obvious. The meat on the inside was a pale peachy color, but a closer look revealed dark bands that produced the meager red juice staining the tips of her fingers.

"Use your claws fuzzbrain!" Tabitha reprimanded again. "Once that red gets soaked into your fur it'll stay there until next season."
For Mau's fingertips, it was already too late, but the small kitten cheered up when she saw the brightness of the red against her fur. Her Mother would't be very happy about it but what if she could make her fur red instead of dull greyish brown. If she could find other things that stained fur she could make patterns even more beautiful than Rayna's spots. Just like the first flowers, if there was no color, she would make some. She could be a rainbow cougar! With this hope firmly in mind, Mau asked carefully.
"Healer, are there any other plants that I should know about that do that? Mother wouldn't be so happy if I suddenly turned blue."
