Broken's quills have remained intact, but they tilt at odd angles and sway about as he walks. He always wonders why he has to keep fixing them, and doesn't remember that anything is wrong until he sees his reflection in either water or a mirror. He still has his tail, but occasionally if he is moving too quickly the weak magnets cause it to fall off. Broken will then spend a few moments reprimanding the appendage, not realizing that the words will do absolutely nothing and also not connecting the fact that the problem has happened before, and inevitably will happen again.

Broken's major physical problem is that he is missing his front left leg entirely. A bit of the machinery where his arm would have connected shows and has rusted a bit from exposure to the elements. Most of the wires that used to hang from the hole have snagged and been broken off, but a few shorter ones still show. Broken doesn't think that he is missing a limb, and will tell .exes that it is simply invisible. They obviously don't believe him, and that only adds to his confusion and defensiveness about his defect. If another .exe tries to touch this "invisible leg" and their paw goes straight through the air, Broken will become shocked and hysterical. This can even set of fits of shaking in the .exe that sometimes require rebooting to stop.

Broken's memory is corrupted, but in a strange way. He has no trouble remembering humans, places, other .exes and events, but he has no memory of himself and his glitches. Every time his tail falls off he thinks its the first and only time it happens. He never remembers having fixed his quills before, even though he does it daily. If he loses a wire from where his arm used to connect, he can't understand that the wire once was a part of him. If a .exe brings up the subject of his leg, Broken thinks it is the first time he has ever been questioned about it before, and will launch into a long explanation about how it is invisible.

Broken sometimes mutters aloud while thinking, but will deny it if someone tells him what he is doing.

Part 1: Inspection

The .exe blinked open his eyes. The room was blurry at first, but it soon came into focus. The room was small, most of the area was taken up by a large machine that was humming softly. He was standing on a table, and next to him were a pile of discs, all labeled with some sort of human scrawl. A large human scooped him up, ruffling the russet fur on the top of the .exe's head.

"Let's hurry up, only three more to activate after this one," the man holding him said. The pair walked to the room next door. His colleague went to pick up a clipboard from a desk at the other end of the room.

"It's quills already seem to be drooping," the man doing the inspection commented.

The .exe opened its jaws for the first time, and then closed its mouth again, as if he were unsure of what he would say.

"Quills? My quills?" the .exe finally said, in a quiet, childlike voice. There was nothing wrong with his quills. He couldn't see them, but he could feel them. They were still there, all perfect. "Who are you?" he then added, for good measure.

"Could you walk for me?" the man said. The .exe frowned, slightly annoyed that the man didn't answer his question, but he started to walk over to the other side of the room anyway. He detected a peculiar dragging sound ever other step. He paused to look at his tail, but it was still hovering in the correct place. The sound must have been outside.

The worker sighed as the .exe tried to walk around the room once more and tripped over itself. It stared bewilderedly at the ground, and then behind itself, looking for something that it possibly could have fallen on. However, it was obvious to the worker that the .exe’s front left leg would not respond to any commands the "brain" was sending it. The way it was waving back and forth made him think it was coming very loose as well. A closer look revealed that wires were the only things holding the arm in place, none of the metal joints had grown correctly when the disc had been activated.

"Can you jump up here?" The man said, patting a low table where the rest of the inspection would take place. He already knew that this batch would have to be disposed of, but he was supposed to report all of the bugs anyway.

The .exe nodded and limped over to the table, where he pushed off with his back legs in an attempted leap. He was in the air for a moment, and then he was sprawled out on the table top, instead of on his feet. His useless leg hung limply at an unnatural angle, much like one would have expected a rag doll's to fall, but the .exe took no notice. Instead he picked himself right back up.

"Look, he's lost his tail," the clipboard human said, stifling a laugh.

"Excuse me sir, but how could I possibly lose my tail?" The .exe said. He was beginning to dislike these people. Then he turned to look behind himself.

"Well look at that," he said in an amazed tone. He then peered over the edge of the table and fixed his gaze on the missing appendage. The .exe hopped off the table, landing with his right leg extended, but his left didn't hit the ground at the same time. The .exe fell onto his side. Now why did that happen? Oh well.

He nipped at the tail. “Don’t do that again,” he told it calmly and deliberately, as if he were speaking to something intelligent instead of a mass of cables covered with fur. He then sat down with his rear to the base of the tail until the magnets caught.

"Definitely a crazy one," the first man laughed, picking up the .exe again.

Part 2: The Name

The reddish brown .exe twitched his tail happily in the containment room. There were lots of other .exes here. A large grey and blue one was sleeping in the corner, while a green one without a right eye was nibbling on the tail of a purple .exe who's fur seemed to not cover its paws entirely. All of these .exes seemed a bit weird though. Why was he put with them?

"Excuse me," he said, addressing a normal looking golden and black .exe. "Why are we waiting here?"

The other .exe turned to look at him, but something wasn't quite right. It's head lolled in a drunken sort of way and its eyes were unfocused. It ended up fixing its gaze on the wall before it spoke.

The reddish brown .exe instantly regretted his choice of who to ask. The sound that erupted from the gold .exe's mouth was like a grating whir that gradually gave way to a high pitched buzz and then a screech. All of the .exes turned to look at it. The reddish brown .exe dropped to the floor and covered his ears with his paws, but for some reason he could still hear ouf of his left ear, as if his paw wasn't there at all.

"Brobrobrobrobrobrobroken," the gold .exe finally said in a monotone electric voice that played over the screech. Its jaw hadn't moved at all.

"Youyouyou," it said, placing its paw on the reddish brown .exe's back, "Youyouyouarebrobrobrobrobroken."

"No! You are broken!" he growled back angrily.

"Iambrobrobrobrobrobrobroken" it repeated, nodding its head vigorously up and down, tongue flopping back and forth. It then pointed at the purple .exe. "Brobrobrobrobroken!" it shouted, a mad glee in its eyes.

"Broken!" The purple .exe barked back.

The green .exe prodded the reddish brown one's left front leg. "Broken," it said, grinning and looking at the gold .exe.

The gold .exe nodded. "Rightrightrightbroken" It launched itself at the reddish brown .exe's leg. The victim yelped and tried to back away, but the gold .exe had a firm grip on his paw. He swatted the gold between the eyes .exe repeatedly with his other paw, but it would let go. He finally rolled onto his back and gave a sharp kick upward with his back legs, catching his opponent squarely on the stomach. The gold .exe was thrown into the wall, a chunk of metal wrapped in rust colored fur between its teeth. It gnawed on its prize, cackling madly every so often.

The red brown .exe stared. What a peculiar shade of red, it was just like his own. He walked toward the gold .exe to get a closer look. To his delight the dragging sound he had heard while he walked earlier was gone, it must have been someone outside. Why, it looked like the gold .exe had a leg in its mouth!

The red brown .exe frantically looked at his own legs. All four were there. His front left one had turned invisible though. He patted the air above it. Yes, it was still there.

The green .exe hopped over to him again. "Broken. You are broken," he said seriously.

The russet .exe then realized it. Broken must be his name! That was why they were calling him it! They couldn't possibly think he had a defect.

"Allbrobrobroken!" the gold .exe howled. Broken smiled. Since he wasn't really broken in any way, this was their way of including him in their strange defective pack.

"Broken!" He laughed. The gold .exe nodded and began his chant again. The green .exe raised his voice, and the purple followed. Even the blue sat up to sing. Thier morbid chorus sounded into the night.

"Broken! Brobrobrobroken!"

Part 3: The Escape

Broken awoke to the sound of teeth being dug into against metal. He was curled up against the large blue gray .exe, who was snoring loudly. He had yet to figure out why the blue was with them; he didn't seem as crazy as the others.

Broken yawned, stretched, and licked at the transparent fur on his invisible leg. He then took another look at his surroundings. The gold .exe was attempting to get a hold on the large metal door that kept them inside, and the purple and green .exes each were chewing happily on each other's tail. Broken suddenly realized that he was hungry.

He padded over to the door and opened his jaw as far as he could, but it was in vain. He couldn't get a grip on the flat surface. He stared at the metal, trying to think of another way to feed, when a loud, sickening crack was heard from the gold .exe. Broken shuddered as he looked at the dislocated jaw. the other .exe shoved his mouth against the door, and there was a tearing sound as his fur was stretched to far in a direction it was not meant to move. Then the .exe's fangs caught, and he pulled away a sheet of metal.

The purple and green were on the gold in seconds. Broken watched in terror as they scuffled over the meal. The useless jaw made it impossible for him to bite back, and the gold backed down in a few minutes. Undaunted, it shoved its face against the door again.

An hour and four scraps of metal later the pair seemed satisfied, and the gold took one last bite at the door, this time, for himself. But this time as he pulled his fangs downward, the metal didn't rip off as before.

It crumpled.

Broken stared at the gold .exe, whose head was now caught halfway through the door. The gold backed up and grinned. "Broken! Doordoordoorbrobrobroken!"

"Brokenbrokenbroken!" The green and purple repeated. In the next hour four furry .exe heads were dutifully chewing on an ever enlarging hole in the center of the metal door. The blue remained in the corner.

The factory worker that checked on them stared in amazement before shouting for backup. Four more people came, and each picked up one of the .exes.

"We can put them in crates for now," one man suggested. "They're probably too full to eat much more today."

"Look at this one's jaw," the woman holding the gold .exe said. "He did this himself, it wasn't broken before."

The gold .exe's ears shot up at the word. "Broken!" it cackled. The woman dropped the mad creature as began to convulse. The gold took off through the factory. "Brobrobroken!"

The green and gold took up the battle cry, and clawed their way free.

Broken sat tamely in the man's arms, an act that he could probably credit to his later escape.

"Just leave that one with the blue and gray!" someone shouted. "They don't look like they'll move, but I think we're going to have a lot of trouble with the other three!"

Broken and the blue were placed back in the room, and a worker hastily put a box against the hole. Broken smiled. So they thought he wouldn't move? They underestimated his invisible leg.

"Will you come?" Broken asked the other .exe. The blue's ears perked up at the sound.

"Can't," he said, and Broken realized that the .exe's orange eyes weren't following him as he moved. In fact, they weren't focused at all. The blue was blind.

"Oh." Broken said softly as he pushed aside the box with his muzzle. "Grab my tail, I'll lead you."

It was in this fashion that the pair walked out of the factory, in broad daylight. Everyone was just too occupied with the other three .exes to notice.

Part 4: The Junkeater

They were in some sort of park. The blue was lying under a bench, and Broken was sitting on top of it. He smiled as sweetly as he could when a little boy walked up to him and petted his quills.

"Hello, my name is Broken," the .exe said. "Are you my owner?"

"Get away from that junkeater!" an angry voice snarled. A large orange .exe spotted with white and pink bounded forward and tugged at her owner's shirt. Her purple eyes flashed dangerously and she had puffed her fur up to make herself look more menacing.

"I'm not a junkeater" Broken tried to explain, but the child was evidently frightened by his pet's reaction and followed the orange .exe away.

"Let's try another place," the blue, who Broken had learned called himself Storm said calmly. Broken waved his tail in front of Storm's nose and the other .exe gently clamped his mouth around it.

They were walking near an alley when they first caught the scent of the junkeater's decaying fur. She seemed to creep out of the shadows, and her inky black fur shone a dark blue when the light hit it. A single quill perched atop her head, and her tail was gone. One ear was gone and her metal skull was exposed.

Without a word she jumped at Broken. Broken sidestepped her, but the sudden movement caused his tail to come off. The .exe cursed the timing as Storm jerked his head up nervously, his lifeline cut. The junkeater sensed Storm's weakness and attacked. Broken leaped onto the junkeater's back and tried to fix his teeth in his opponent's scruff, but he was shaken off too easily. Broken wondered why his griped had faltered so quickly, he had grabbed her with both front paws!

Storm put up a good fight for being blind, but the junkeater was a veteran fighter who knew how to exploit weaknesses. It was over quickly.

Broken stared at the junkeater tore into his friend's body.

"Why?" he was finally able to whine. "We were going to find our owners!"

"No owners" the junkeater replied between bites. "No owners for junkeaters."

"I'm not a junkeater," Broken said defensively.

"No leg," the junkeater grunted.

"My leg is invisible."

"Tail."

Broken looked at the fallen tail and moved to repair it. "That's the first time it's ever happened."

"They deactivate junkeaters. At factory. They deactivate glitches. They deactivate bugs. Only perfect leave. You not perfect. I not perfect."

"Then there was a mistake! I'm normal! I have an owner!" He shook, from fear or anger, he didn't know. "I have an owner! And I'm going to find them!" Broken took one last look at Storm and the being that had killed him. Then he walked away.

If junkeaters like her had owners they wouldn't have to kill, Broken decided. He wouldn't condemn the junkeaters, how could he? People didn't want them, and he was sorry about that. But someone would want him. He was sure of it.

Because Broken only has three legs, when he "runs" he moves his front leg forward and then makes a hopping motion with his back legs to catch them up instead of moving them naturally.

He climbs almost anything he can, mostly because his leg doesn't allow him to jump very well and he wants to make up for that. This compensation is all made subconsciously though, as he wouldn’t go out of his way for something he didn't feel was a problem.

Unlike typical junkeaters, Broken likes humans, and is often disappointed when they ignore him or are uncomfortable around him. He only avoids the factories because he associates them with the fear the other .exes felt while waiting to be deactivated.

Ironically he feels a deep pity for other junkeaters, especially ones missing limbs. Somehow Broken knows that they are truly missing their body parts. If another junkeater happens to be sane enough to try and correct Broken by saying they are the same, Broken thinks that they are just jealous that they don't have "invisible" parts like him.

Broken's corrupted data keeps him from morphing. He'll always stay a standard.

Other Random Ideas for pets I have will be here.

Puppet: I probably won't quest for this, since it's mostly just a name and personality for a .exe or Shiva and the color can be altered to fit a Shiva at a flatsale. If I make it more detailed I'll make a full custom request page, but for now it's just here for me to brainstorm.

Puppet is a Shiva that is be entirely loyal to Fissure. Like a puppet, she feels the need to have others "pulling the strings". She refuses to make decisions for herself, and likes having others take responsibility for her actions, whether they are good or bad. Puppet is extremely good at following orders and is highly efficient, but when someone gives instructions to her they have to cover what she should do in almost any scenario that could possibly happen, or she will just stop working and wait for better guidelines.

Even when not working on something for Fissure, she is obedient to other Shivas, and even likes being told where to go and what to do at every moment. Many members of Fissure praise her for being so dedicated and obedient. A comment was once made that Puppet seemed totally without her own will. Is Puppet's devotion a behavior that came about naturally, or some programming bug that can be fixed, exploited, or even replicated to create more shivas with an even fiercer need to carry out the will of Fissure?

Twi is a teenage girl who enjoys drawing. She has short brown hair and likes to wear camouflage outfits. She is a bit of a loner at school. Her parents thought that she could use a companion and offered to get her a .exe as a pet, but she denied them, saying she wanted a real animal instead. Unfortunately her younger brother is allergic, and the option was out of a question. Twi hates Broken at first, but later goes out of her way to feed what she feels is a poor confused creature that really didn’t need to exist in the first place. The .exe only goes to her for food at first as he searches for his "true owner", but Twi soon begins to seek the junkeater out and a bond slowly begins to form.

If I happened to get a different .exe before I got Broken, I will still be using this background for Twi. It would mean that her parents just got a .exe anyway or I would modify it slightly to keep her initial dislike of Broken and .exes there.
