Hm, I really can't think of any details, but I would bet it would be just some random moment. You know, like Shikamaru and Temari would just be sitting somewhere or something and they'd be discussing normal things and *poof* Shikamaru asks. At least that's the way I see it.

Er - I was gonna do this short lil paragraph but I dun wanna. i'll write it out in nifty storyness.

Shikamaru sighed as Temari grumbled lightly from her leaning posture against the thick pole, "You're hopeless. Watching clouds all day - what kind of training is that anyway? Do you look for animal shapes like a little kid?"
The jounin cracked an eye open to glance quickly over the Sand Ninja and grunted softly before letting out a long breath and shutting his eye back slowly. The kunoichi let out an exsasperated sigh and flopped to the bench beside him, "Stupid Man."
"Troublesome woman." He responded in his normal uncaring tone; the corners of his mouth twitching into a small smile before both dark eyes opened to meet those of the blond beside him.
A blush covered her cheeks and she cursed him before standing up abruptly; her hands on her hips as she began a lecture, "Even your father says you have a long way to go before you reach the ranks of some of the jounin in the past. This lazy activity really isn't helping things. I come all the way from Suna to spend a little time with my boyfriend training and all he does is sit and watch clouds all day. Shikamaru are you listening to me? Shikamaru!!" Her angry face suddenly clouded over with confusion as a tanned hand held up a small ring with one sparkling diamond in the center. Temari frowned, "If this is your idea of a joke I don't like it. It's insensitive and you should know better."
Shikamaru shrugged, closed his eyes, and dropped his hand to his chest, fingers still holding to the gold band, "Fine, guess I'll just have to ask someone else then."
She scoffed, "Like anyone else would have you."
"Is that a yes or am I going to have to take this ring back to the store? It took me four months of hard missions to get this for you. I wouldn't do that for just any troublesome woman."
There was a silence and the jounin cracked open an eye to make sure his girlfriend was still there when her face was suddenly inches from his, her hand on his chest, "Do you mean it, Shika? It's not a joke?"
There was a desperation in her eyes that made him frown and he had the sudden urge to gather her into his arms and protect her from the outside world - and he actually wanted to do it even though it would be 'troublesome' to him. A calloused hand tilted her chin up that was slightly trembling and he half smiled, "It's too much trouble to joke with you about this." He swallowed her next words with a searing kiss to wash away any doubt and to save himself from the task of even more talking and explaining. When he pulled away, a smile creased his face as Temari sat beside him, swollen red lips and a beautiful pink blush across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose.
Quickly, Shikamaru pulled her to lay beside him and slipped the ring onto her finger, intertwining their hands, "Now will you shut up and watch the clouds with me?"
The kunoichi nodded, shifting closer to her now fiance and Shikamaru sighed a half growl. It was going to be a long and troublesome road from now on; a smile spread over his face as Temari squeezed his hand lightly. But some things; he mused, were worth the trouble.



And that's how I think it would go. I was bored - sorry. xd

Here's what I think as a novelist. The engagement should span an entire story, starting with Shikamaru's proposal. It should be exciting, and maybe (I use the word loosely) something really romantic. Since I'm a writer who likes visual elements, let's talk about setting. That can involve one of the following:

1) A starlit lake with fireflies
2) A candlelit dinner
3) A high-altitude place with a spectacular view
4) A fountain with romantic lighting
5) . . . Sunagakure? sweatdrop

Now let's say, for the sake of tradition, that he gets down on one knee, gives her a ring, and asks the four-worded question ever girl dreams of hearing. She will either:

1) Gasp and throw her arms around him, thus knocking him to the ground.
2) Be too stunned to answer, so she just starts making out with him.
3) Just say yes, but her head will be spinning completely from it.
4) . . . Do something Temari-ish? sweatdrop

So now that we've covered all that, every good romance story needs a conflict. Let's talk about Temari's brothers . . .

1) They would both agree
2) Kankuro would agree and Gaara would disagree
3) Gaara would agree and Kankuro would disagree
4) They would both disagree

Knowing their personalities, #2 seems most like what would happen.
