I was watching CNN, and they said that the comic writers killed him off!
The premise behind it was pretty interesting.
But he died!
Gosh.
Quote:
In the 2006 Civil War crossover, Captain America opposes mandatory federal registration of all super-powered beings and leads the Anti-Registration faction and resistance movement. He becomes a fugitive and opposes the heroes of the Pro-Registration movement, including his former friend Iron Man. He adopts the alias "Brett Hendrick", a mall security guard, to avoid government detection.[37] As the War continues, Rogers becomes more and more extreme in his desire to win, including allowing the Punisher to join his "Secret Avengers," (though he does not condone the man's willingness to kill) and working (albeit reluctantly) with the Kingpin.[38] At the climax of a battle between Registration and resistance proponants, realizing that his fight against the Registration Act is endangering civilians, he removes and drops his mask, surrendering as Steve Rogers. He orders the anti-Registration forces to stand down. As Captain America is led away, the Punisher picks up the discarded mask.

Following his surrender, Steve Rogers is indicted of several criminal charges, and while entering a Federal Courthouse he is shot through the back by a sniper. In the crowd chaos that ensues, he is wounded an additional three times by gunshots to the stomach and chest. He later dies of his injuries in a hospital.[39]

Orchestrated by the Red Skull, the assassination involves Crossbones deployed as a sniper. In addition, Dr. Faustus, posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. psychiatrist, has manipulated Sharon Carter and implanted in her mind a hypnotic suggestion that causes her to shoot Rogers at the crucial moment.

Ms. Marvel claims that Captain America is not dead, but "...tucked away safe on the Raft... They're trying to save his life even as we speak."

I'm glad Cap's okay, I would've been hurt pretty bad. Honestly, I wouldn't have been this upset over the killing off of a character since they killed off Elizabeth Braddock, better known as Psylocke. Then of course, there is the issue of my signature too.

The one thing that I feel kind of gives American manga an edge in 'pathos' over Japanese manga and anime is that usually when the lead character dies it's often used as a plot device to bring closure to the series. American manga characters on the otherhand, when they die the world they exist(ed) in continues on, mainly because the characters themselves are only one of MANY major characters that exist in the fictional world in question. That said the readers are forced to endure that loss for years to come until the next author decides to change it.

Stars and Stripes Foever Captain America.

The nature of Comic Books states that Cap won't stay dead for long. They will make some convoluted story arc much of which will fail to abide by any continuity and bring Cap back at some crucial moment. NOt even BUCKY has stayed dead.

What pisses me off about Comics right now is the thought that to sell books, you have to kill off major characters. When good story and art should be what sells the book.

Killing off a character then hap-hazardly bringing them back lessens the characters. The Cival War story arc had so much going for it but they fell short. I'm hoping World War HULK goes much better, Planet Hulk rocked and so did Anihiliation wave.

I know what you mean. I have no doubts that Cap will one day return, but for now I get the feeling that Frank Castle looks like he'll be the next Captain America for now.

In the mean time I'm actually awaiting the return of Thor myself.

Anyone think that this 'new' Captain America
is actually Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher?

Actually the original WWII Cap wore a pistol, this new concept art is trying to merge the Soldier and the Superhero. I really think Cap needs pants though.

After reading Civil War, yes it's taken me this long, I saw the pages that have Captain America in a facility. Or rather, I think I have those pages. The scenes depict Tony Stark, Iron Man, talking to someone in a secret facility, probably the "42" detention center. He ends the conversation by calling the man Captain America. Then the scene ends. The dramatic fashion in which this is done makes me think that he is in fact talking to Steve Rogers. However later he is shown talking to Rogers' body and crying shortly after his wounding. I'm pretty sure this is going to remain ambiguous so that they can opt to bring him back, which if i'm not mistaken, they already have.

And yes, Bucky becomes the New Cap.

Rogers has been alive for a while now...or at least he was. I really haven't been keeping up.
