I've been listening to peple talk a lot recently about the problems in the government, and how they'd like to change them. What many of these people don't realize is this-the Declaration of Independance says, and I quote "We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all me are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator certain, unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever ant form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it" and "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to to reduce them under absolute despotisim, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." In layman's terms-if we don't like what the government is doing, it's our right to change it, and if the government is being oppresive, it's our duty to get rid of it in favor of a non oppressive one. But there's only one small problem here-attempting to follow through on these things, which we're told is our right and our duty, is treason. So, how does one go about fixing the problems in our government if doing so is treason?

I have been thinking the same thing. However, I don't see it as treason, I see it as "total unequivocal change".

The same way it's illegal to secede-how can it be illegal for me to stop acknowledging one government by creating a new one that supercedes the government I'm leaving?

To be quite honest, it's only treason if we fail. That said, I just committed conspiracy to commit treason, but since I don't plan on making any serious reform until I can get a solid support base offline, I'm not seriously concerned.
Every government is afraid of being usurped, hence the treason laws. However, since we seceded from the United Kingdom, we have a clause that should be applicable. (If you can find someone in the government who will interpret that clause in any way that will destroy the U.S. government, more power to you.)
The secession part wasn't added until after the war between the States.
