Low ceiling, dank and akin to its location: dungeon-like. The whole entirety of the Slytherin dungeons is located directly underground to the lake, thus the chilling temperate can at times be rather unbearable given the harsh Scottish winters. Still, dont let the bit of frost fool you, for the common room itself is an immaculate piece of artwork just waiting to be explored and adored. Upon entering through a right snobbish portrait of a black-haired woman, known to most as the brilliant witch Morgan Le Fay, you come across a small case of stairs leading you directly down into the common room. There is a vast amount of fabulous shades all geared towards the house colors: green, silver and black. To the left is a pristine dark marble fireplace, the mantle is carved delicately to show a serpent coiling around itself on both ends and the wrought iron doors and faceplate in Napoleon iron finishes give a true masonry look and feel. Precisely, on either side of the fireplace are two tall steel doors, painted over in a blackish-grey coat, both of which lead to the male and female dormitories. In cases of forgetfulness Salazar made it convenient for those imbecile students to remember which door led where: for girls, a serpent curling around a freshly blossomed rose and for boys, two serpents in a ghastly fight for power, girls on the right, boys on the left. Scattered fashionably about the common room are two dark green leather couches, four velvet love-seats, each a rich emerald green and silver, along with three perfectly relaxing, over stuffed arm chairs, these all clothed in midnight black leather. Though the room itself is quite dark, the simple light flickering from the fireplace and the ever-burning candles in the twenty glass candleholders stationed about the walls is a splendid touch for the dark and boarding students in Slytherin house. Each wall is lined with pictures of famous witches and wizards, and of course right above the fireplace is a medium size portrait of Salazar Slytherin himself. The walls and floor are both layered in perfectly aligned stone, so an extra pair of socks would do a person good. There are of course, hand woven Persian rugs strewn across the common room's floors, each charmed with a well-designed heating system. For those few students interested in concentrating on there homework with a crowd, there are a few desks pulled against the walls, all made from the finest of Dark Alder trees. Of course the main decor is all revolving around the house symbol: a serpent. If you look throughout the common room, youre sure to find a few surprises of these pesky reptiles. Lastly, there is a chess board not far from the fireplace to entertain and educate the feeble minds of young first years, but still, we Slytherin always have more.
