"SAIENA!" Standing atop a small rise, Safi was looking off towards a small blue speck that was racing away across the meadow; specifically, his daughter. As usual, Saiena didn't seem to be exceptionally keen on waiting for anyone else...which was sometimes a problem. Like now, when they were in somewhat unfamiliar territory. "SAI, GET BACK HERE!"

Off in the distance, the blue and purple filly skittered to a stop, a long-suffering expression on her face as she heard her Papa calling to her. She could always pretend she hadn't heard, but then he'd probably just fly after her.

Meh. If only Kileyo wasn't so SLOW! "COMING, PAPA!" And then she was obdiently trotting back, albeit a bit sullenly. And why not? They were off on a 'venture, but REALLY SLOW!

However, Safi watched for a few moments to make sure Sai actually WAS coming back; although not a disobdient child by any means, she had a tendency to 'forget' about things once in a while. Like...coming all the way back, for example.

But once he was satisfied she was actually remembering, he turned away to look at Fortune and Kileyo. "Well, so far so good, eh?"

And he certainly thought so; it was a novel experience, having the whole 'family' together and doing something.

Fortune couldn't help but laugh as Sai raced away from her papa and seemed quite pleased that Kileyo was being a good boy and staying right beside his mother. In fact, she was giving Safi a look that purely said right now she was better at this parenting thing than he was even if she wouldn't say it.

"Yeah, so far so good. No kamikaze snowmen bobbing around. I think the spring finally took all of them away. Now all we have to worry about is the pollen bits that make you sneeze."

As if on cue, Kileyo sneezed and flopped back on his rear from the force of it. "Awwww, mom, you had to bring that u--ah-ah-ah CHOO. Up."

Fortune snickered, "Of course I did, if only to torture you, Eyo." Then she turned to look at Safi, "You SURE Selene wants to meet me? I mean, I can be kind of weird."

"Kind of is an understatement!"

Selene trotted after her daughter as the mare galloped over the grass, circling back around to catch up to her mother. "Yue, honey, don't run." the blue mare grumbled, reaching out to grab a knot in Yue forelock. "You'll look like a filly again." She smiled at Yue, pulling her mane back into a semblance of order, smiling faintly at how they were still working, but they were closer now than they had been when Yue was younger.

The alicorn shook her head. "Momma." she chided. "We're running late, and if I recall, it's because you were freaking out over meeting your best friend's 'wife' and their two lovely babies." She tugged away from the mare and turned, nudging the older mare along towards the meeting place. "Pick it up, pick it up!"

"They aren't married." Selene grumbled. "But really, raising two children as their own-" she let herself be pushed along, making only little noises of protest.

"You love it." Yue gave her a flat look, and Selene grinned.

"Maybe a little bit. And maybe I'm just rather jealous."

The vibrant mare made a face. "Oh, mother, get over it, already. Still moping over a crush-"

"That's not what I'm jealous about!" the flutter-winged mare snorted, agitated. "He's got a family, with his son, and his daughter, and I don't even ge to see my other child. THERE is my jealousy."

Yue was quiet for a while. "Well, if you think about it, mother, it was your choice. I don't recall you ever fighting to see him, either.

Selene was silent, and the two trotted together towards the assigned meeting place. Saiena was the first they saw first- Selene would have recognized that pattern anywhere, with all the staring she had done at that lovely basket! She neighed a greeting, and Yue cantered ahead, still full of her limitless energy, also calling out a greeting.

Trotting over to Kileyo, Safi gently helped his son get back to his feet, dusting him off from the fall but basically looking at Fortune. After all, this wasn't the first time they'd had this discussion, and Fortune's response always seemed to be the same.

"You're no weirder than me, Fortune, or than Selly for that matter. And considering how horribly amiss I've been in introducing you all, I'd deserve the brutal and bloody punishment Selly would heap on me if I failed to deliver, and you wouldn't want that to happen now, would you? That would mean you'd be solely responsible for the whelp!" This last comment was aimed at Kileyo, complete with a teasing grin and a pat on the head. "And you're too much of a hellion for your mum to handle on her own, right Killy?"

Off in the grass, Saiena merely rolled her eyes; Papa was so SILLY sometimes! But any thoughts of family bonding were quickly canceled when she heard her name being called out; whirling around, she looked out at the two blue mares making their way through the grass. Neither one looked familiar to her...so that had to be them.

"PAPA! FORTUNE! KIIIIIIIILLY! They're HERE!"

And then she was bouncing off to greet the two mares, a wide grin on her face. "Hi hi!"

"I beg to differ! Though I certainly do not deserve the punishment of having to deal with Eyo all alone. The boy would drive me absolutely batty and I sincerely doubt you want a weird CRAZY mare taking over your camp." She grinned at her friend happily and then nosed at their son.

Kileyo rolled his eyes, "I'm perfectly the normal amount of hellion - Oh! There they are! SAI WAIT UP!" He took after his sister and tripped over his legs in his excitement, faceplanting into the grass.

"Gravity - it's not just a suggestion, Kileyo." Fortune chided, trotting up to help the boy up again.

Selene's smile was bright as she met Saiena. "Well, hello. You must be Saiena, am I right?" she asked the filly, tone warm. Her head rose as she heard a light thud, and bit back a laugh as she saw the other child- a colt?- had fallen. She didn't run over to him, knowing she'd been chidedn time and time again when Faust was a colt for 'mothering' him- which was the point, but according to rumor, little boys hated being fawned over. Though seeing the way the mare moved over to him, he wasn't like her son, and didn't mind a little affection.

Yue couldn't hide the giggle. "Heyhey Sai." she greeted the filly, tail swishing, glancing curiously over at the colt. Safi was easily recognizeable, and she sniffed, ignoring him pointedly, instead turning her attention to the mare bending over the child. "Come on, momma, check out the competition!" she teased under her breath.

Selene scowled, head snaking out to n** at Yue's mane. "Competition?" she sounded almost insulted. "I think you have me mixed up with someone who can't support her friends in all of their endeavors." she tossed her head, looking superior. "And with two children, he needs all the help he can get."

"After all, you couldn't even handle one." the alicorn stuck out her tongue and pranced closer to Saiena. "I haven't seen you since you were a basket!" she said cheerfully. What she left out was that at that age, the filly bored her to tears. "So, tell me aboyut yourself! We can wait for your little brother, if you want." she nickered to the colt a greeting, and sent Fortune a warm smile. She'd let her mother greet the mare first.

Selene trotted over, smiling at the adults and Kileyo. "Hello there." she said cheerfully. "Safi. And you must be Fortune." she reached out her nose to the mare in greeting. "I've been wanting to meet you. Brave mare, to take on Safi and his children." she gave the stallion an arch look. "And the lovely young man must be Kileyo, am I right?"

Glancing from one mare to another, Saiena pondered for a moment which was which, then grinned at them brightly. The colorful one called the other one "momma", so she had to be the kid, right? Of course right, cause why would a Mama call her daughter HER momma?

So she was grinning when she shook her head at Yue. "Killy'll get here soon; he's just kinda young and can't quite balance right yet, so he's SLOW. But not me, cause I'm older'n faster! But not as old as you yet, a'course."

As the two little parties met up with each other, Safi couldn't hide the delight on his face at seeing his dear friend again, and that was evident when he all but smothered Selene in a two-winged hug. "Selly, it's so great to see you again! And about time, might I add; considering how many times I went to visit you, the LEAST you could have done is come and visit me. You ought to know how hard kids make travel, after all!"

Releasing her, he stepped back towards Kileyo and Fortune, still grinning. "And technically, before you go tarring me with any brushes, I'd like to remind you that while Saiena is undeniably mine, FORTUNE was the one who found Killy and wanted me to help HER, not the other way 'round. So I can't be that horrible"

Kileyo glared at his mother and stood up slowly, sticking his tongue out, "It should be a suggestion! It is to dad!" He looked pointedly at Safi's wings, "I should be able to fly, right? I mean, I have wings too! Dad, you're going to teach me right?"

Yes. The boy had absolutely no manners and butted right on into the conversation without greeting Selene first.

"Kileyo, I believe Selene is talking to you." It was definitely hard for her to be a 'responsible' adult and preach about manners when she herself didn't often display them. "Nice to meet ya, Selene. You're very pretty. Has anyone ever told you that? I'm not brave though. Slightly suicidal to put up with them but hey..."

Kilyeo looked properly ashamed and coughed, "Hello, Selene. Nice to meetyou. OH YOU HAVE WINGS TO!" He jumped at her and stuck his nose as close to her wings as possible to get a better look, "They don't look like mine though! Nuh, what kinda wings are those?! AND you have a horn!"

Yue grinned at the lively filly talking to her. "By the way, I'm Yue." she said finally, embarassed to realize she'd just pounced on Saiena without introducing herself. "And I'm not that old." she made a pained face. "I remember what it was like to be little and awkward." she made a face. "I kept getting bruises on my knees."

Selene nuzzled into Safi with a laugh, tugging on his mane affectionately. "I'm sorry, Safi." she said finally. "I was pretty bad at visiting you, wasn't I? Promise to do better." the grin was lopsided, then her attention was stolen by the colt starting chatter about flight and wings.

She smiled at Fortune. "It's really alright." she said with a smile. "He's a child. And thank you." she blinked at the compliment. "You're very beautiful as well. And I'd have to disagree with you on the bravery point." here she nosed Safi again. "And agree with you on suicidal."

She blinked down at the colt as his nose was sudenly pressed to her wings. "Well, yes. Wings and a horn." she said finally, regrouping her thoughts. "I'm a flutter, Kileyo. It means that my wings are just different. Some soquili like me can become really, really small, even smaller than a flower." she herself, sizewise, was a prime example of being small, she thought regretfully. "So we have a different type of wings, like the butterflies and the fairies. That way we can enjoy our bodies and our abilities." she nodded. "You have a horn too, I see. And wings! That makes you reeeally special too!" she smiled. "I bet that horn gets kinda heavy sometimes, doesn't it?"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 15, 2007 8:30 pm

"You bet your horn I'm gonna teach you how to fly, Killy; you just have to get a wee bit more stable on your hooves first! You can just ask your cousin Kwahu about flying lessons, and I'm sure he'd be quick to tell you what an amazing teacher I am."

However, Safi had strong doubts that anything he'd said had really registered with the boy, especially after Kileyo had spied Selene's wings. Chuckling, he nudged Fortune and whispered, "We're going to have to watch this one; barely out of the basket and he's already going for the pretty girls."

This last bit was spoken a bit louder, along with a devilish wink at Selene. Personally, he thought Kileyo's enthusiasm was adorable; after all, no one else in his family had a horn, and Selene's wings WERE novel!

Over by Yue, Saiena was still grinning widely, proud to be carrying on a gorwn-up conversation on her own as she was. "I knew you were Yue; cause you're got the REALLY neat hair, plue you called her mom, so you had to be Yue. I wish my hair was as neat as yours." This last bit came with a slightly wistful look at her own short mane, but that lasted only a moment before the grin was back, along with a stuck-out tongue.

"I am NOT awkward, though."

"But you're wings are prettier than mine," Kileyo said with a small pout, "Oh well! Mine're still pretty. Like my papa's." He poked his nose at her wings yet again, taking a looong look at them before stepping back and looking up at his father with wide eyes.

"Whatcha mean goin' for pretty girls, huh? She's old isn't she?" Oh. Bad move, Kileyo. Bad, bad move.

Fortune was already cracking up laughing and teetering on the edge of falling over because of it. "Oh. Oh my. I don't think we're going to have to watch him at all, Safi, if he's going to insult mares that way." She was laughing so hard she almost had tears in her eyes.

He blinked. "I didn't mean to insult 'er. I just thought that girls gotta be my age 'n' since she has a foal already," He nodded toward Yui, "That she be older 'n' off limits."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 6:05 pm

Yue grinned. "I bet it will be, when you get older." she smiled. "Though I doubt you'll find many soquili with hair like mine. It's a bit novel." and she preened playfully.

Pretty? She preened mockingly, winking at Safi. Until.... OLD?! She started to puff up in outrage. "Just because I'm older, Kileyo, doesn't mean I can't be pretty." Seriously. She felt like crawling off and dying now, thanks. Selene slid closer to Safi and fell against him dramatically. "Help me, I'm decrepit and can't stand up." she whispered to him. "You must be a fossil then, and well-able to support me."

Her daughter had caught the end of that conversation and gave a wicked laugh. "So does that mean I'm pretty Kile?" she asked, with a teasing wink at the foal. "I'm not old yet." Well, not... really. Yue was quickly thinking she'd asked a very bad question.

Being a father was such a special thing; you got to shape and influence the developement of young minds...and you aslo got to hear the things that foals said.

Such was the case now; as Kileyo first spoke, Safi was beaming with pride, pride that became a choking noise of both amusement and shock at Kileyo's rather frank age comment. Obviously they needed to address the topic of 'inappropirate comments'!

Laughing, he supposerted Selene as she fell against him, patting her on the head. "Pretty indeed, Selly; pretty ancient! But aye, that would put e with one foot squarely in the grave by now...damn I look good for my age, don't I?"

Giving her an affectionate look, Safi turned and gave Kileyo a mock severe look. "You realize you just insulted my friend, don't you, Killy? A word of sage advice; NEVER comment on a lady's age. Especially never tell her she's old; they don't like that, for some reason. Selly's a good sport, but you should apologize anyway."

"I guess..." Still, Sai's expression was mullish as she contemplated her own short hair, only to change to one of surprise when Yue's expression went elsewhere. Listening to the adults talk, though, she had the unsettling feeling that she had missed something...and she didn't like that!
