I've talked to a maketting guy at Penguin publishing recently, who's given us a bit of info (I posted this on Obernewtyn.net about 10 days ago); First up - There will be TWO MORE BOOKS in the Obernewtyn Chronicles biggrin Quote: Good morning Melinda - thanks for your enquiry. I have just gotten off the phone to Isobelle's publisher and I am thrilled to confirm the following for you. There will be two more books in this series. "The Stone Key" to be published late 2007 "The Sending" to be published in 2008 We receive a lot of enquiries from all over the world regarding the release of the next title so it is obviously very much anticipated (especially by many of us here at Penguin!) Enjoy! Kind regards, Brad Chappel Manager Customer Service Second bit of news, is the exciting re-publication of the Obernewtyn Chronicles so far, with brand new covers! What do you think? (poll razz )

I adore the first two covers - The second two not so much... But they work well enough. Obernewtyn movie eh? That'd be reasonably hard to do. How would they do the whole psychic speaking stuff? xD

The Farseekers new cover is my fave...I think it's the blues blaugh
How would they do the psychic stuff? A lot of movies recently have psychic bits and pieces. Serenity, Xmen, LotR to name a few. Psychic ability is usually portrayed as echoing voices, or a slight shift in colour / saturation of the screen. They'd probably do similar things if an Obernewtyn movie were to be made...perhaps slightly different methods to differentiate between talents? Like, farseeking is just an echoing sound; coercing could be a combination of that, and a slight jagged/smudged look (sort of like the Dementors Kiss in HP PoA movie) Not that I'm even 100% certain I want one to be made!! What if they ruined it?

I would love an Obernewtyn Movie!!! That would be so awesome. I used to dream of making one my self... Lol.
OMG!!! I thought there was only going to be the Sending!!! And that was meant to be released years ago!!! With the way she has been delaying it I thought she would never release the ending of Obernewtyn!!! Or Ledgendsong for that matter... OMG!!! I am so freaking excited!!! W00t!!! I am going to go txt all my friends!!!

Gah, I love the new covers! Too bad i've already got all the books in their first release covers...
I read the entire series when I was... *thinks* ten? I'm almost seventeen now. Wating seven years for a series of books to come out has been hell... But IC's never let me down before (Alyzon, for example. Legendary book).
By the way, this guild looks awesome! Great idea.

I hope not too. I've been asking at bookstores for years now, I remember hoping that it'd be out in time for my 18th! xd
Well... what if they showed a 'probe' as she used it, as if they were looking out of Elspeth's shut eyes? Like she shuts her eyes, all of the world goes dark, but a sort of glowy soft edged thing with a link to her goes zooming out to another mind. And a shielded mind would rebuff it. Or empathy would be totally different, dark but with every body within 'range' with a certian color. I don't know. But I'm sure if IC was in the screenwriting process, she'd make sure it was as she pictured it. biggrin

Neith-Kia Well... what if they showed a 'probe' as she used it, as if they were looking out of Elspeth's shut eyes? Like she shuts her eyes, all of the world goes dark, but a sort of glowy soft edged thing with a link to her goes zooming out to another mind. And a shielded mind would rebuff it. Or empathy would be totally different, dark but with every body within 'range' with a certian color. I don't know. But I'm sure if IC was in the screenwriting process, she'd make sure it was as she pictured it. biggrin That'd be an awesome way to visualise the mental probes! And I did ask IC about the chances of a movie in a letter...she replied that she's ambivalent to do it, as quite often people will think that it's the book based on the movie, and not realise the movie's based on the book... She did, for a time, allow a Canandian production company to option it, and they were going to do a teleseries, but the didn't make anything of it. At the moment, she said she's waiting on "the fellow who did Lord of the Rings" to contact her (and I know she was joking, so don't get your hopes up!!) There was an Obernewtyn Play in Darwin last year, too. We have one of the actors on Obernet who told us all about it and some photos from it. The same member (he played a Herder Priest) also sent me a copy of the script they used...it was... :-/ um...it was okay. It could have been a *lot* better. sweatdrop

Oh, YAY. Where do you think she is? And what's there?
I just saw the Harry Potter covers too, and now this, I'm in bliisssss. crying heart heart
I'd guess she's on the dream trails but Maruman isn't in his tyger shape. Wherever it is, it's pretty.
You know... I've been told over and over in my writing course that you shouldn't have more than six main characters. o.o Yay for her to break that mold!

Neith-Kia You know... I've been told over and over in my writing course that you shouldn't have more than six main characters. o.o Yay for her to break that mold! But having more characters is just so much FUN! All the bickering that occurs... *sigh* Another example is the Elenium by David Eddings, though he introduces all of his main characters all in a big clump, so it's very confusing until the second book. However, great series.
