The sun was high in the sky as it bore down upon Pride Rock and the surrounding savannah. The little cub had only been out and about for a few days, and only now did she dare to wander down the rocky slope of Pride Rock to pad across the dusty earth. She didn't know if she was the bravest of her siblings for tumbling forth now, or if the others had tumbled down before, but she felt a bit of cub courage welling in the pit of her stomach as she ventured further from the den than she had before.

Casting her crimson eyes to either side of her, she caught sight of a grasshopper as it leapt from a blade of grass to another. Rather than take chase, however, the little cub folded her hindlegs so that she sat rather gracefully for a youngling. She watched the grasshopper sway in a breeze, her eyes round and bright with curiousity as she took in her surroundings. Today was a good day to be a lion, even for her youth she was sure of it.

Siyo shifted uneasily through the pridelands, feeling like a cub in trouble. He wasn't really supposed to be in these lands, but he wanted to explore where his father was from! His tail dragged slightly along the grass, his ears perked and his lime green eyes flickering around at everything.

It wasn't long before he realized he was much too close to pride rock! He whimpered slightly and started to turn around when a golden-colored cub caught his eye. She looked much different than what he thought pridelanders were supposed to look like, having only his mother and father to go off of. He stared at her and didn't speak up, unsure of what to say.

And then suddenly a cricket came hopping in front of him. "Aiiee!" He yelped, stumbling back. He wasn't honestly afraid of bugs, it had just startled him!

The cub let her eyes fall partially closed as she lifted her nose to the wind, scenting with untrained senses her surroundings as her ears swivelled forward to take in the sounds as well. She was only a little one, however, and was not trained to pick up the presence of the other youth not far from her. The grasshopper leapt away and she heard the rustle of other bugs when a sudden yelp of surprise caused her to jump, startled. Her ears pinned against her head as her feet quickly found steady purchase beneath her. Her mind viciously sped to a decision to stand and see what had snuck up on her, and she searched the brush with her keen eyes.

When she caught sight of the red hued cub, her eyes widened and her ears moved forward curiously. She had not seen another cub up close yet, save for her siblings who all looked somewhat akin to her anyway. But this cub was a completely different hue than her earthy pelted littermates. After a few moments, she assessed that as of yet he didn't appear to be any danger to her. It probably would be best to turn tail back to the nannies, but she was curious and the male could have attacked her already if he had wished to. Offering a soft, kindly smile, she called, "Hullo. I'm Safuma." With the childish reassurance that anyone would want to know her name, she gave it freely.

Siyo's eyes widened as the cub addressed him and he turned to face her, sitting up shakily. He stared at her a long moment, and then nodded his head. "M'names Siyo." He said very softly, carefully. Safuma was a much nicer name in his opinion, but he did not tell her this. He instead studied her colors and then her eyes, biting his lip. His mother would have liked her much more as a child than she liked him.

In a common mistake of youth, Safuma wondered guiltily if he did not approach her because he knew she was a princess. Biting her own lip between tiny teeth, she hesitated before taking a few steps toward him. Her tail swished gently against the dirt as she went, her scarlet eyes taking him in. "Nice t'meet you, Siyo. I like your colours." It was a childish compliment and she meant no harm by it, though she felt an inexplicable flutter of worry that he might be put off by it. Frowning, she sat and looked about before her gaze returned to him. He was alone, from what she could gather, but she wasn't sure if she was allowed to ask. Though she was much less shy than this new lion, she was soft-spoken enough that she found it odd to be the one initiating conversation.

He did not mind that she moved closer to him, but at the compliment her eyes went wide, disbelief clearly visable on his face. "You... what?" He said slowly. He wasn't used to anyone saying he had nice colors, or that they liked them. His mother hated how red he was so he was very self concious about them. "Are you... sure?" He said, sounding and looking confused.

He took a deep breath and shook away the thought. "Anyways I like your colors too Safu... they're much nicer than mine."

When his eyes got wide, her brow furrowed in concern but as he spoke she grew more comfortable with what she had said so boldly. He didn't believe her, and with a growing smile, she spoke again, "Oh, no, I think they're wonderful." She nodded slowly and took another step forward with conviction, "I haven't seen that red before, it looks like..." She hesitated, the young cub hadn't seen much yet but she knew it reminded her of something. At last, she gasped, content with her realization, "A sunset!"

When he complimented her, her eyes downcasted for a moment in honest humility before she suddenly let a bubbling giggle slip from her throat as her eyes darted up to him. "No one's ever called me that before."

He just shook his head lightly, she wouldn't be able to convince him. He smiled though at her next words. "I like sunsets." And he shrugged. "Well I suppose someone had to say it first, right?" His tail wrapped slowly around his paws, ears perked.

"Me too." She smiled, "Then it's night time and the stars come out." She had only recently learned the names of a few of the things she was mentioning, but she felt her chest swell with pride that she knew them at all. This cub was older than her, and larger, but she was finding that she enjoyed his company. "I like it." Nodding, she took a few more steps forward so that they could have a conversation at a respectable, polite distance before she settled into a seated position once again. "Why were you sneaking around in the... brush?" She struggled with finding the word before looking up at him, face full of innocent curiousity.

The dark admittedly scared Siyo, so he didn't like night time all that much. Except when the moon was full and it wasn't cloudy.

"Oh uhm.. well I'm not.." He sounded a little guilty. "I'm not really part of this pride so I don't really think that I am... allowed on these lands.." He gave her a sheepish look that pleaded with her not to tell on him.

The little cub frowned at that, looking him over before letting her crimson eyes scan the area for any lions that were eavesdropping. Seeing no one in the immediate area, she looked back at him with a reassuring smile, "Stick with me. If I say so, everyone should leave you well enough alone." She hesitated, "Well, accept Mama, but she wouldn't hurt you anyway." Her smile returned again, gentle as she prodded further with her inquisitive questions, "Where's your mama?"

Such confidence! He wondered how she was so confident... she was just a little cub. "And why is that?" He said slowly, also looking around.

"My..." He trailed off and frowned lightly. "Well, dunno. Probably at home sleeping." He said slowly, glancing up lightly at Safu. He shrugged. "Doesn't matter... wanna show me around? This land is very pretty.." He didn't realize this was her first time really exploring it as well.

Her smile faded slowly at his question. He truly didn't know? That made things awkward. She had never had to tell anyone who she was before, but then again she hadn't been around many other lions outside of her family. Frowning, she furrowed her brow before speaking slowly at last, "Because they have to. My mama... she's in charge." She hoped that sounded right, then added as if to make more sense of it, "I'm a princess." Hopefully that didn't sound too haughty.

She continued to this next words quickly, as if almost embarrassed by how he might react to that news. She hoped it was well and they could continue on like nothing changed. "It's a good day for a nap for old lionesses, I guess." Her eyes scanned the landscape when he asked to be shown around, "I actually haven't really ventured this far out of the den yet. Want to explore together?"
