Dull sounds echoed through her skull and both pairs of footsteps came to a standstill. She felt her arms graze her bedclothes and clean white sheets, her sleek hair draped on a thick pillow.

She remembered being this comfortable when she was little, only there was something different...

"When did she get here?" an older man spoke as if there wasn't anyone else in the room.

"Only an hour ago. One of our doctors found her on his way home. I can't believe he took her on his scooter, couldn't he just get himself a damn car...?" a middle-aged man answered in a harsh tone.

"Hey, my scooter doesn't appreaciate your comments. How is she?" an even younger man walked in with squeaking sneakers across the tiled floor.

"Shouldn't you be home snuggling with your pillow?" snorted the second man in his cynical prime.

"Who or whatever I snuggle with is none of your business!"

"Gentlemen, I think this is a discussion for another time." the older man cut between their quibbling and the middle-aged man stalked away.

The young man checked the IV connected to her and looked at her fair face, her forehead wrapped in slightly bloody gauze.

He spoke softly with a slight smile, "We'll fix you, I promise."

"Let's go, Dorian. You need to be here early tomorrow." the older man, Dr. Kelso, beckoned him from her side.

He nodded and both their footsteps faded away.

Yeah, I still have some kinks to weed out.

The message I'm trying out for is that people create obstacles and that they sideswipe important issues and curve around them by making excuses or working on less important issues that can't be fixed until they get through the big topics, hence a winding road.

They sideswipe because they don't think about the big picture, them being too worried about themselves.

As I think about that, I feel that last explanation might be a bump to be smoothed...
