Entrance Hall

There are double oak doors that open to the West. It is a large, cavernous room lit by torches, with a ceiling so high that it is barely visible. it also has a flagstone floor.

Wide marble staircases opposite the front doors [on the East wall] lead up to the first floor. On the left of the staircases, there is a door leading down a flight of steps to the first dungeon level. On the right, there is a door leading to the Hufflepuff common room and the Kitchens.

Double doors to the right on the South wall lead into the Great Hall. Beside these doors is the staff room, a long panelled room with mismatched, dark wooden chairs, a long wardrobe [sometimes inhabited by a boggart], and blocked off by a stone gargoyle statue which requires a password to get by. These stone gargoyles stand on either side and challenge any student who attempts to knock on the door.

On the North wall there is a door leading to a smaller antechamber where First years wait to be sorted into their Houses. There is a broom cupboard located off to the side of the small antechamber.

There is also a door near this one on the North wall that leads down to the Slytherin common room.

Between these two doors is a corridor that leads down to a classroom, Classroom 11. There is also a side door in this corridor that opens into the courtyard where students gather sometimes during breaks and lunch.

There are four giant hour glasses [one for each House] that are in niches in a corner opposite the main doors. Each hourglass is filled with gemstones [Gryffindor has red rubies, Hufflepuff has yellow topaz, Ravenclaw has blue sapphires, and Slytherin has green emeralds] that stand for each House Point that the specific House has.
