I was just hangin' out at the PlanetZot forums, and in one of the threads, somebody pointed something out that was worth pondering about.
It's been said at the beginning of the series....that while Naruto was at the Academy he failed the graduation test two times before. That means that he was held back a couple years, right? If that's true, then shouldn't Naruto be a couple years older than Sakura, Sasuke, and all his other classmates? confused

Yeah, I've thought about that a lot before. 3nodding
I think since he was an ophan, maybe he started earlier than everyone else. ^_^ That, or everyone flunked twice. xd
That's all I got. sweatdrop

I've thought about this a bit as well. And to confuse the matter more, in the anime, it has a flashback of Naruto, Kiba, Chouji, and Shikamaru in the same class together when they were young.

Verrrry interesting...since he was with shika and chouji, who are probably the laziest of any of the characters, their is a good chance they did get held back hmmmm

Maybe they did get left back... or they just started later in their years then everyone else for one reason or another.
I mean, I can't say for sure, but it seems the most likely.

Another theory that came to mind was that, seeing as only nine students of the acedemy are expected to pass every year. Maybe it's pretty common for a student to be held back?

Temjin Lee Another theory that came to mind was that, seeing as only nine students of the acedemy are expected to pass every year. Maybe it's pretty common for a student to be held back? What do you mean by "only nine students of the academy are expected to pass"? eek You mean only 9 students are allowed to pass, and the rest just fail automatically?

I think the average is only three teams per year pass.
